Koianake Sharples - Te Whare Tū Taua

Koianake Sharples is the grandson of Sir Pita Sharples, the founder of Te Whare Tū Taua o Aotearoa.
While the institute was created to offer the ancient art of mau rākau back to Māoridom, Koianake is imparting that knowledge today with keen learners in schools and in the community.
Along with his whānau whānui from Heretaunga and Hoani Waititi Marae, Koianake learnt under the tutelage of his Papa Pita and father Paora.
Koianake kindly shared some of his knowledge at our recent Toi Tangata Hui ā Tau.
