- At the March of Dimes Drive for Babies event October 17, 2014 with my 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray Z51, recorded on the Performance Data Recorder. Only modification was Carbotech brake pads (XP12's in front, XP10's in rear). Fast lap starts at 9:54.
Great video, great driving, nice to see a z51 well-driven smooth....the old vette was cool too...50 years of engineering advancement ;)
Thank you, Marc!
great video ....GM Performance Data Recorder may be the coolest thing ever .....love it ! also, u can drive. nicely done !
Always a great time at Road America!!
Never bounced it off the rev limiter this guy is smoooooth ! I used to dream about driving a car like this to school, man if only 🐾✌️🇺🇸
Thanks! The shift lights in the HUD help a lot with knowing when to shift!
You held back alot.
That Alfa Romeo was pretty awesome 😎
Alpha owner: "If I make it really, REALLY noisy, people will think it's really, REALLY fast.
Funny, just watched a video of a vintage 65 Vette 427 race prepped with a semi-pro driver turn a 2:28 without the chicane at turn 7/8. The 427 sounded better, but 50 years later Joe Blow off the street can turn a very similar lap time in a stock Vette.
You're out of your mind if you think any Joe Blow off the street can turn a 2:28 at RA.
I didn't say anyone could turn a 2:28, I said a similar lap time. And the proof is in the pudding: this guy here qualifies as Joe Blow and turned a similar lap time in a (basically) stock Vette on a slower track configuration. Or did you not bother to watch the vid before spewing crap?
Badass man. There wasnt a car that could keep up with that c7.
Loved it!!
Your a excellent driver.
Cliff Ebben is the KING of this track!!
Not a bad time for basically a stock car. Granted the c7 is one hell of a car =P. were point bys restricted to certain portions of the track? Seems like no one was in any hurry to let the faster cars through...
DGurney Yes, only on the front straight and before turn 5.
Nice rotation in the corners
gbmwaz thank you!
Yes, But I also noticed that the braking and corning sucked. Guess the only advantage is the power and it did sound kinda nice. Also The song from Speed Racer, was a stupid japanese cartoon.......I grew up with that in the 60's. I will say this that RA is the bets track in America and I always like seeing video from there. Keep up the racing and good luck.
05:12 that white vette is not slow in the turns, the driver is lol
Make sure you go into Race/Track mode (not Sport) if you start getting more aggressive with the throttle - you don't want the computer trying to correct for a slide that you are already correcting for. I almost had to buy a new car when I forgot to go into Race/Track mode at Road Atlanta.
Yes, the car was in Track mode with the PTM in Sport 1. Without PTM, the stability control is way too intrusive.
Nice run!
Nice.. crazy how good pros are. . Tony Stewart did 2:00.7 on his first lap in 2014 Corvette Z51
Greg Quillen Not at Road America.
oh thought was my bad
Hey bone-head... it's an Alfa Romeo or Alfa for short - not "Alpha"!!! LOL, just pulling your chain there Mr. B.A. Nice video you obviously did some serious ass kicking out there; I love driving this track, can't wait till October to race again!!!
R Design Inc Yeah, my spelling was off on this one. Misspelled Porsche the first time it was up, too.
With all the traffic seems I could keep up in my late model Sierra.
That’s part of the fun 😎
Nice line.
That's kinda odd they had you go thru the chicane after the carousel, that's usually just for motorcycles.
slicknick26 Yeah, they also use it on track days to keep the amateurs like us from killing ourselves on the wall opposite the kink. You can actually select this track configuration in Forza 5.
And iRacing.
Is everyone here part of some club that does this? I can't find anywhere on Road Americas website when the track days are for ordinary people.
themikester223 check out driveforbabies.com/ and sign up for 10/2 - that's the perfect event as you'll get SCCA instructors (if you want) and it's all for a great charity. That's what this event was.
+themikester223 Several clubs and organizations hold events on Road America I am registered for a weekend with MVP 3-4 October. Spots still open. Instructors provided for novice drivers. LOTS OF FUN. Google track day, HPDE or open track events and you should see something of interest.
Alright thanks!
If you go on 10/2, I'll be there with a bunch of other guys, including one with a Ferrari 458 Speciale. Hope to see you there.
+themikester223 If you're still interested, check out Northwoods Shelby Club - they're going to Road America July 7-10 (I'll be there July 8th): www.nwshelbyclub.com/category/newsandevents/
Was this thing stock or fully tuned? its destroyinn eveything on site
Fully stock except brakes.
@@jedijurist Did you change the brake fluid to dot4 before the session? and flush the differential fluids etc
@@hayabusa27 the brake fluid was changed to DOT4, I believe this one was Motul 600. The diff fluid only has to be changed after 24 hours of track use, so it was eventually changed, probably just not at that time. It’s a bit of a pain to do it as the plug is in a tough spot.
@@jedijurist do have to switch back to dot 3 after track?
@@hayabusa27 that’s the great thing, no, you can keep the dot 4, you just need to change it every 4-6 track days (or sooner if you get brake fade). Otherwise, it works just as well on the street as dot 3.
How are the Carbotech's? I run them on my CTS-V and Supercharged BRZ (XP-10s). I'm hoping to get a Z51 C7 here in a year or two (I have to wait for depreciation).
The Carbotech's are very good, but the rotors are weak in comparison, and definitely change the brake fluid to some good DOT4 fluid (I used Motul 660).
Yeah, I run Motul 660. Thanks.
Im about to get XP12.. The stock Z06 brakes great but it does lose a lil bite when very hot. .
jonswiftucf I just did my first track day with my new Race Brake front rotors and XP12's, which handled the heat much better than the stock ones. Plus, I didn't have to install some silly ring.
+jonswiftucf I should update you that upon closer inspection, the RaceBrake rotors did not handle the heat at all and started to crack from the inside out. I replaced them with DBA rotors that have been through several track days without issue. Apparently, the RaceBrake rotors don't play nice with the Carbotech pads, but the DBAs do.
Nice!
Was this on a RATT day, semi-private, or corvette day? I have a RATT day coming up and just curious what you think the best use of money/time is on the track!
It was at the annual March of Dimes Drive for Babies event they hold each fall (usually the first weekend in October). See www.driveforbabies.com for more info.
I think this car can go much faster at this track
A stock GT350 can do a 2:33.60 best lap here
lol @ the rsx. can't even fend off an alpha
Now do it on two wheels 20 seconds faster. :D
Novice group? Seems to be a lacking of point bys with a bit of over driving and trains.
Actually, that's in the advanced group.
Looks like you exceeded the track limit on the exit of the 2nd last corner which would invalidate any "fastest lap" ever made by any car.
+IIGrayfoxII it was definitely close, but I don't think all four wheels crossed the line...
+ben sellick Looks like more than 75% if the car went over the white line
+ben sellick Looks like more than 75% if the car went over the white line
If you're talking about the access road right before turn 14, that's the proper race line. If you watch any professional races there or have ever done a ride-along with one, you'll see they all use that line.
That's the exact race line. Turn 14 is a hard corner> On 14, you are prone to getting lots of under steer if you miss the apex by 4 feet.
This Vette guy drives like an old fucking man out for a Sunday drive ...
Dood my car in forza got a 2:19 400 hp vette
* Porsches
Yeah, proofreading would have been a good idea.
Boring!!!!!!!!!
this is fuckin fake no corvette can do a fast lap only reaching 120 on the back straight
LOL fucking miatas hit 117 on that back straight
11:51 - not sure what you're looking at, and don't forget the kink was closed.
Nice!
