Drew Barrymore's character getting killed at the very beginning blew everyone's minds back when this came out because she was such a big star at the time and was front and center on the movie posters, so everyone assumed she was the main character. What an iconic scene.
OH YEAH I noticed that she was on the movie poster, which I thought was interesting haha great marketing strategy
So many shades of Psycho...and without the problematic fallout to boot.
Fun fact it was actually Drew’s idea for her to be the first death

@@SophiaPhannn Barrymore was the original choice of Sidney. But suggested she was the first to be killed off making everyone think she's the lead do to her status at the time. This lead to the marketing of the posters having moviegoers think she's the main character but proves that's no one is safe in this film
Fun fact: the original 3 survivors (Sidney, Randy, and Gale) all break the rules that Randy says at the party. Sidney breaks the virgin rule, Randy breaks the non drinking rule, and Gale tells Kenny 'I'll be right back.' Dewey was supposed to die in the first film, however, they added the scene where he puts a thumbs up after pre-screenings liked the character so much.
Also, the principal was supposed to survive, however, they killed him off as it gave the film an excuse to get rid of the last partygoers.
ok, last one. When Sidney stabs Billy with the umbrella, Neve (Sidney) actually accidentally stabbed Skeet (Billy) in the wrong place, so when he screams, he is in actual pain.
what’s really cool about the scene where randy is sitting on the couch and saying “watch out jamie” is that the actor’s name is jamie! it’s like he’s warning himself in a weird meta way

This movie is such a blast and has a bunch of fun facts, like Rose McGowan (Tatum) could actually fit through the cat door and when filming her scene she kept slipping out so they ended up nailing her shirt so she would stay.
Then we have when Sidney stabs Billy with the umbrella, Skeet had open heart surgery and when Neve got him with the umbrella she accidentally missed the chest plate and hurt him.
Now when Billy hit Stu with the phone it was completely on accident. The phone slipped out of skeet’s hand and hit Matthew in the back of the head so the line “you hit me with the phone dick” was genuine and makes the scene so much better
Believe it or not, I actually watched this movie for the first time this summer, as well as the sequels. I really enjoyed it and can see why people love it. Sidney is the best and has to be my favorite character in the entire franchise. Such a badass!

The janitor is played by the director of the movie Wes Craven. He also directed the Nightmare on Elm Street films with Freddy Kruger. The sweater and hat were just a reference to the films. He also made other good horror flicks that you should look up.
Fun fact: For Tatums death(Sydney’s Friend) her actress was skinny enough to fit through the pet door, so they had to nail her clothes down so it looks like she didn’t fit through.

Billy Loomis and Stu Macher are my favorite Ghostface killers. Definitely my favorite horror movie. The opening of this movie was shocking that Drew Barrymore (Casey) gets killed right at the start. However both Steve and Casey's deaths was one of the most brutal deaths in the scream movies ever. Like this video! Great job!

When you think about the fact that Sidney’s mom was r*ped and murdered it totally makes sense why she has an aversion to intimacy. Even grief in general can do that, but she has a close-to-home real life example to be afraid.
And to know Billy and/or Stu are the ones who committed that act on her mom, and billy is out here pressing her to fool around 👀 such a total breach of autonomy and respect BEFORE you know who the killers are, and more so after 🤢
going back to that scene where the music builds up when sidney opens the closet, you can hear a squeak in the background kinda like if someone took a step somewhere in the house. i think it’s indicating that someone was already in the house when she was home. they didn’t just sneak in when she opened the front door.
Stu is already hiding in the closet waiting.

I'm so happy you watched this! It's one of my favorite movies of all time, I love Sidney as a protagonist and the ending is so satisfying. The "I wanna know who I'm looking at" line always sends shivers down my spine. I'm not sure if Gale was completely playing Dewey, cuz they seriously have a really cute love story through the sequels and even get married. David Arquette and Courtney Cox were even married for 14 years after this movie!
As a big fan, the new sequels are just okay... I think they really peaked with the Emma Watson one. 😆

I was introduced to Matthew Lillard as Shaggy in the Scooby-Doo movies. It is so weird to see him as a villain. Matthew has also been the main voice of Shaggy since 2009

That opening scene set up the entire series so perfectly. And Drew's acting was top notch. Actually felt awful for her character because her parents were right there.
Scream is the first horror movie I watched when I was a kid, and it made me loved horror movies. I remember having a huge crush on Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) when I was a kid lol. This movie has a special place in my heart, I just love how Courtney Cox from Friends is in this movie and the reveal of having two killers is scary in my opinion.

something i think is cool is that Billy gets his last name (Loomis) from Halloween/Psycho, with the detective in Halloween being Dr. Loomis and Sam Loomis in Psycho. and since Billy’s daughter is Sam, if she went by his last name she would be Sam Loomis, bringing it back to the original name in Psycho :)

I remember watching this as a kid thinking it was Scary Movie, and wondering, what happened to all the jokes, at the time i didn't know scary movie was a parody of scream
Regarding the intro: You're probably too young to know about phones being used as phones, but back when I was a teenager, I would prank call girls all the time, and they never hung up. There was no internet or texting back then, people were bored, so randomly talking to a stranger was exciting.

Since you mentioned it, I feel the same about Billy Loomis even knowing he is one of the killers. I was not feeling the same with the Chris Hooker character in 'The Craft' film so apparently it is not the actor. I don't know what is wrong with me. 😂
One of my favorite meta slasher films!
The opening scene was on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments, as the audience thought that Drew Barrymore was going to be the hero of the film. They were in for a shocking surprise.

Very fun classic! The actor Matthew Lillard has such a fun wildly infectious energy. He also brings that same passion into the world of the celebrity narrative roleplay games that became super popular after Stranger Things, and the Pandemic Zoom life. I also recently saw him as one of the main characters of the Cyberpunk story roleplay game too. At one point the characters had a pet robot dog, and of course he couldn't help launching into his Scooby Doo Shaggy character for a few moments. As that was also such a truly iconic character.

I think one of the killers was actually hiding in her closet almost all day. Which is horrifying to think about. Because not only did it do the spooky music when she opened the door, but later she walks by and hears a noise from the closet but chooses to ignore it.
I figured Stu slipped in the back while Billy was distracting Syd with the call.

It was a real thing in like the 60’s to 80’s to not lock doors very often, but then a string of really bad serial murders, specifically a string of murders in Florida that INSPIRED this movie. MrBallen has a video about the string of murders that inspired this movie

Apparently Stu was supposed to survive, and become the antagonist in Scream 3. The original idea was that he was teaching high schoolers to be killers from jail. They changed it because of a mass school shooting that happened in Columbine. Understandable why they changed it. Scream 3 was also supposed to have two killers. No one isn’t quite sure the reason why they changed that. Apparently the producers, the Weinstein brothers, didn’t like the idea and pointlessly change it. Even though it would’ve made sense on how the killer got to certain places.
You should watch "the nightmare before Christmas" and "nightmare on elm street"

Whatamazed me is as this series goes on you can see how sensorship has changed since the 90s. In this film we see the 1st victim hanging by her guts from a tree but therecent ones dont even sho2 blood. Amazes me how things have changed in the last 20 years.
