Okay I was in my late teens when this was released. How are you saying that? I happen to be with you and think the record is 🔥. I get chilzzzz like you do, especially if I put on the vinyl, turn the lights down low and pour a nice Cabernet. Back in 85 I would smoke a J don’t tell my mom… But the average person was not caring about a Prince side project. People just didn’t feel Prince like I think they should have. They weren’t sleeping on his side projects, they were ignoring them. The album made #62 on the album charts in 85. People just didn’t like it, it sold badly and had one music video and 2 singles. Remember that the Time had just broken up. The Family was their replacement. The group has a bunch of former members of that band. Prince originally wanted The Time to continue with St Paul as the leader but Jesse Johnson said no and went solo himself.

A shame that Prince "got bored" with THE FAMILY project when he did...another hot minute and it would've really blown up. ANY track from that first album could be played now, and it wouldn't sound 'OLD' at all!

I doubt it, Prince was constantly changing and evolving, and his break up with Susannah is why the family and revolution broke up, but they probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway.

It's too bad this didn't get released as a single back in the day. This definitely would have put them in the stratosphere as far as a much needed hit. Since hearing it off the family's self-titles LP back in 1985, its been my most favorite track simply because of it's unique arrangement, and a dreamy romance mindset. Hands down, It's the best track of the entire LP. Best of all, I love Clare Fischer's string arrangements on this song. Prince sure made a good choice of choosing him to do the fancy musical footwork on this project.
