Do you notice how a lot of ex QB's, either in the media or ones on RUclips that do film breakdown all praise Brock and all are extremely complimentary. And they all show film as to why he is playing at an Elite level.
That is all you need to know. Listen to them, they actually know they they're talking about.

I’m a niners fan and I feel like purdy is an awesome quarterback, but he still has a lot of room to grow. He’s been great in the role he’s been given, but he’s not necessarily had to overcome a horrible situation around him. It’s important to remember this is barely his second year in the nfl and he has plenty of time to improve and expand his game!

The 49ers don't have the time to Worry about coming from behind in most cases, they are just that good!
Why would they? Their Super Bowl window is Closing, with the same Team, within 2-3 years... especially when Brocks Rookie Deal Ends!
Brock is Winning a Super Bowl! I see it!
You being a 49er Fan don't see "THE IT FACTOR!" in Brock!?
Wowwwwwwww! After all the QB's that Kyle have brought in, even after Steve Young Retired in 1999 = 24 years... and they all could not get over the Hump, running Kyles Offense, and Winning the Super Bowl via JimmyG.

Yeah, the sample size is just too small to say whether he's elite or not. The guy barely has a full season worth of games under his belt. That also makes it really impressive how well he's playing in just his second year, first as a starter, and coming of a bad injury. He's obviously talented, so the people who try to completely discredit him are just being weird trolls.

Some people think being great is being great at backyard ball, running around and ignoring scheme, taking crazy chances, and occasionally making a highlight reel throw. Purdy may or may not be great at that, and we won’t know because that’s not how the 49ers play. Instead, they play the type of ball that leads to WINNING. Purdy is masterful at executing schemes precisely, reading the field and making lightning quick decisions, getting the ball out accurately and decisively. This is the formula that consistently wins games in a West Coast system. The master QBs who won a lot were named Montana and Brady, and Purdy is definitely in that mould.

  • @segueoyuri
    @segueoyuri 7 месяцев назад +1

"I wouldn't put him with the Mahomeses and Allens and Hurtses of the world" I wouldn't either.
    - Allen is a turnover machine. Purdy is not.
    - Hurts is having a bad O scheme this year and if his D doesn't show up and his top players aren't available, he suffers. He relies heavily on his physicality and often makes bone-headed mistakes throwing the ball. Purdy does not.
    - Mahomes is having only Kelce as a weapon and see how he's doing. If the argument is Purdy only plays well because of his weapons, so does Mahomes then.
Purdy is still struggling when facing great secondaries (and that's 200% fine, he's pretty much a rookie. This week was his 22nd NFL start). That's where all the Niners losses this year come from; if your D takes Purdy out of the game, the Niners lose.
And Shanahan himself has talked in press conferences how Purdy is going above his playcall and doing unexpected stuff. He's having 4 receivers with 1k yds and beating the franchise QB records left and right. He is elevating his team immensely. Playoff clutch play? He has the same number of playoff wins as Dak Prescott. Prescott is playing in the NFL for 8 years.
So by her own definition, Purdy is elite. And he's even better than the guys she mentioned as elite.

I agree here. What I think gets misunderstood is that saying he is playing at an elite level to these people and fans is that he is elite. There is a difference and I think that is Dan's point. Brock's processing and accuracy are at an elite level, which is why he is playing so well. He has to do that for a couple of years before he is labeled elite.

  • @chunj22
    @chunj22 8 месяцев назад +1

I agree with Dan Orlovsky, but some people have a different definition of the word elite as it pertains to an NFL QB. I say this though, time will tell. Some refuse to call Purdy elite because of his draft position, but if Purdy continues to ascend and keeps adding to his resume, calling him Elite will be undeniable.

Dan Orlovsky who played the position is trying to explain and educate Mina and the gals on why Brock Purdy is The MVP front runner on the betting odds but she wants to stick to the regurgitated narratives and hypotheticals instead of admitting she's flat out wrong. Kyle's offense is not a "Friendly QB System" they way people think it is.. listen to all the QBs that played under Kyle's system, its extremely difficult and not for the faint of heart plus Kyle is hard on his QBs he likes to micro manage a lot.. and just like Orlovsky said Brock is the best QB that Kyle has ever had and that includes Matt Ryan and RG3 just look at the advanced metrics of Brock vs all the QBs that played under Kyle not only as a head coach but as a Coordinator.

Patrick Mahomes is LOSING without his playmakers!? Does that make Mahomes a "Good" QB instead of an "Elite" QB? The answer is Mahomes is STILL ELITE.
Brock Purdy is playing behind an O-line that's in the bottom half of the league, WITH the Best Left Tackle in football. And he is slaying the QB stats. 😳 So tell me what that O-line is without Trent Williams? Bottom 5, O-line? So how is Purdy being blamed for that O-line collapsing on him with consistency? Literally no QB is good, let alone great, with bad O-line play. And Purdy did enough to win 2 of those losses. The Kicker missed in Cleveland. And the Defense let the whole damn team down for three straight games. Something that they admitted to, and then fixed, coming out of the Bi-week.
Dak and Hurts both got pressured by the 49ers and they looked like bottom feeders. That's how the O-line to QB relationship works. QB's that get pressured and sacked have horrible games.

So, up front, a Cowboys fan, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I think Mina is right: the opinion does not have to be binary. If you don’t think Purdy is elite, that doesn’t mean he is trash. I think we go down that road too often, and it is a false choice. Having said that, let’s be honest: Purdy’s offense boat raced the Cowboys and then he went and Cowboy’s the Eagles. He is very, very, good. And his offense is out of sight. Elite? I don’t know yet, I think we need more time, but I do believe this: the NFL is going to have to contend with him for a long time and he will probably be elite.

Does Mina Kimes even fully watch 49ers games or does she only watch RedZone clips? I know West Coast games aren't shown on the East Coast. Purdy isn't just some dink and dunker being carried by his teammates.. he pushes the ball down field and goes for the bigger plays most of the time if it's there to be made. He leads the league in yards per attempt(9.6) and completions(70.2%) --and before anybody says that those are mostly YAC yards, STOP those are air yards per attempt. Brock's YAC yards are coming from 48.6% of his passes which is LESS than the 3 previous MVP winners.
    2020 Aaron Rodgers 52.2%
    2021 Aaron Rodgers 52.7%
    2022 Patrick Mahomes 54.3%
Brock Purdy leads all Quarterbacks in the following Statistics:
    Passer Rating
    Yards per Attempt
    Yards per Completed Passes
    Adjusted Yards per Attempt
    Net Yards per Attempt
    Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt
    Completion Percentage
    Touchdown Percentage
    QBR
    Passer Rating Success
    Expected Points Added per Dropback
    Total EPA
The only 2 categories he doesn't lead the NFL in right now are Passing Yards (CJ Stroud) and Passing Touchdowns (Dak Prescott) those 2 stats were deemed NOT good enough to evaluate who should be MVP.. which is why all these advanced metrics were invented in the first place. There is absolutely established precedent that anyone who does what Brock Purdy is doing, have won MVP that year.
The real reason why Mina and so many others such as Nick Wright won't see him as such is because of his draft status.. Pick #262 7th Round Mr. Irrelevant. Watch the tape for the tape doesn't lie. People who played the position(Steve Young, Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner, JT O'Sullivan, Chase Daniel, Dan Orlovsky, etc.) knows what they're seeing in Brock where as people like Mina Kimes and Nick Wright doesn't because they never played the position and doesn't know what to look at when evaluating a QB. They only consider being "elite" if you have the measurables. Was Drew Brees not elite? He's shorter than Purdy and didn't have a huge arm as well. What makes Brock Purdy "Elite" is his processsing skills, quick desicion making, reading defenses, throwing accurate passes with aticipation and his quick short area burst. He does this on a consistent basis which explains his Advanced Metrics and if those mathematical statistics isn't enough, then watch his games in full not just RedZone highlights.. he passes the eye test as well.

    Which QB is.....
    -3rd in total yds (3553)
-1st in completion percentage (Jake Browning is nice, but 2 games don't mean shiznit) w/ 70.2%
-1st in Average Passing Yards (9.9 yds)
-- and because I already hear the "but Niners are THIRD IN YAC" (Patrick Mahomes is 1st in YAC, Yua 2nd, BTW)
-- 2nd in AIR YARDS PER PASS
    -1rst in 1st, 2nd, 3rd AND 4th down conversions (as a team, admittedly)
-1rst in pass plays that go over 20 yds
-1st in pass plays that go over 40 yds
    -3rd in TD passes
-76th in Interceptions (higher is good here)
    -1st in QBR
    -1st in Passer Rating
-while only being 22nd in Pass Attempts (91 less attempts than Dak Prescott)
    -1st in small window throws
All while operating behind an O-Line that is very good at run blocking, but near the bottom of the league in Pass Blocking.
Now step away from stats and WATCH THE FILM and see his touch on intermediate to long layered throws (like 2 of his obscene TDs to Aiyuk), his MANY DEEP BALLS (as proven by being SECOND IN THE NFL IN AIR YARDS), such as the TD pass to Deebo that traveled 48-49 yd in the air, and his unmatched anticipation, consistently throwing before his receiver make their breaks. And the REASON they are still 3rd in YAC despite being 2nd in Air Yards per Pass? (Aside from the Niners being more physical than everyone else)? Unlike many of these other QBs he is consistently hitting his receivers IN STRIDE, allowing them to add YAC. Why is Dak's YAC so low? Because he's not hitting them in stride. It's Catch and get tackled.
    "3 GAME LOSING STREAK!!!"...
-Game 1: Cleveland. Literally Marches them into range to win the game with a CHIPSHOT FG (the Brady Formula). Idiot Kicker shanks it.
-Game 2: Minnesota. Plays fine, not great for 3 Qs (look at how Mahomes, Burrow, Tua, Herbert, etc all play when missing their best weapons. Good. Not great). Gets concussed, and throws 2 INTS after, to seal the loss.
-Game 3: Coming off a concussion, when many questioned if he should be back in so quick, he played a poor game against Joe Burrow's Bengals who were an absolute buzzsaw at the time, and their D-Coordinator, who is infamous for making Mahomes and Allen both look very Mortal. And he lost.
So realistically he genuinely could have ONE loss pinned on him, vs one of the hottest teams in the league. And they still didn't get they asses kicked as bad as the Cowboys and Jags and Eagles did to the Niners. When all three teams HAD their weapons.
Plz Mina. Put down the stats, call up Chase Daniels, JT Sullivan or a few others and watch their film breakdowns. You are too good at your job to give this surface level take.

2023 Purdy is better than every QB Shanahan has coached. There are a lot of bad ones, but I think he's eclipsed Jimmy, RGIII, Cousins, and Ryan this season. He's insanely efficient right now. There are several quarterbacks running a similar system right now and they aren't at his level.
Purdy's Adjusted EPA/DB is 0.383. No MVP QB since 2010 is better except 2011 Rodgers (0.413). Purdy the next 3 after Purdy are 2018 Mahomes (0.380), 2020 Rodgers (0.370), and 2013 Peyton (0.361). And Purdy might catch 2011 Rodgers as he continues to improve every week. The leader of each season has finished either 1st or 2nd in MVP voting in that period. The two times the leader finished 2nd in voting was Peterson's incredible season and Cam's 1-loss season. He's a full 0.1 pt per dropback ahead of Dak. Dak is currently at 0.274. The only MVPs lower are 2015 Cam (0.179) and 2017 Brady (0.261).
If the season ended today, he'd have the 5th highest passing DVOA ever. The guys in front of him? 04 Manning. MVP. 07 Brady. MVP. 84 Marino. MVP. 06 Manning. MVP runner-up to Tomlinson.
He's hitting up the all-time single-season leaderboards. QBR (32), Passer Rating (9), Cmp% (15), Yards per attempt (8), Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt (4). The last one, 10 of the top 12 are MVP winners. 1 is Purdy. The other is Nick Foles who only started 10 games that season (2013). he's 2nd in attempts in passes over 20 yard. He's 1st in attempts over 30 and 40 yards. He's first in completion percentage over all three distances. So it follows he's also first in air yards per attempt and air yard per completion.
Stack up the 49ers offensive roster with any of the other teams with MVP candidate QBs and really compare who has the most talented players. Count'em up. Miami. Stacked. Dallas. Stacked. Philly. Stacked. Go through the QB MVPs rosters. From Mahomes' Chiefs last year all the way back to the Kardiac Kids. So much talent around and in-front of those MVP QBs.
If we want to say it's the system, then why aren't those other QBs doing it? Not just Kyle's QBs. How many teams are running a flavor of the Shanahan WCO? How many teams are running some derivative of the OG Walsh's WCO? It's not just Shanahan with Purdy...

Mina Kimes is undoubtedly a very intelligent sports journalist indeed, but even though the comments made by Jeff Garcia a few years ago were inappropriate, there are moments where expresses some ridiculous opinions that might make one understand where Jeff Garcia was coming from. This clip is teeming with examples of that. Starting with her listing what makes an elite QB with terms that describe purdy to a Tee, and saying he doesn’t meet those standards makes me think she hasn’t seen the games and is just following talking points.
She denies orlovskys question if Brock had not made played that transcended the scheme, further suggesting my belief of her not watching the games.
She then tried using the fallacy of faulty comparison by bringing Jimmy garopolo into the argument.
And Then she started to stutter and looking and sounding like a deer in the headlights, and that’s when it got sad.
Staying that Purdy had not shown the mental ability, more specifically the Ability to process information when there is literally a whole published article in the athletic and picked up by the general media that reported Purdy’s extremely high scores on a test that measures a person’s ability to process information. Extremely high even among the Elite QBs.
Finally, when she continued to stutter and blamed that she didn’t know what the topics would be and blaming it on her maternity leave it hit the pause button.
This is on top of previous on air idiotic things she has done as of lately, like challenging and claiming Dan orlovsky, a professional former NFL Pro to a race, and that she would definitely win.

  • @johnboy1760
    @johnboy1760 8 месяцев назад

Of course he is, he puts up record breaking numbers, has a great record, and for all intents and purposes he’s a rookie, having just played his 17th career game. The narratives against him are lazy, and frankly contradict the truth. His YAC yards is below league average and below poster boy Mahomes’, the years he won MVP.
He leads the league in most deep throw categories and air yards per attempt, so he’s pushing the ball down the field better than ANYONE this season. He also leads the league in tight window completion percentage. So he’s threading the needle.
He’s simply held to a higher level of scrutiny because pundits and evaluators have a hard time acknowledging greatness from lower picks, it doesn’t align with their evaluation. If Trey Lance did this, they’d call him Brady 2.0.
Speaking of which, even now, decades later, there is revisitionist history about Brady early. Oh he was carried by his defence. No, he wasn’t. At worst you could say he was his first season, but the notion he was his first couple of rings, is easily refuted by watching that Super Bowl and a Google search. Guy led the league in touchdowns year 2, and frankly was the driving force on that second superbowl, winning a shootout, breaking then Super Bowl records in the process I might add.
Point is, Brady is the GOAT, the same pundits that acknowledge that, still cling to the idea he grew into it and wasn’t polished early, because it doesn’t align with his draft stock. Same thing will happen here. I’m not saying brock will become Brady, but if they win it all this year, I’ve no doubt it will be spun as a team effort in which he was carried. And down the line they’ll talk about everyone else. Maybe by year 5-10 he might start to get credit and they’ll act as if this talent was product of years of coaching and couldn’t have been foreseen. No, you guys whiffed on him. Just like you whiffed on Brady. Shannon sharpe, Kurt Warner, and numerous other players.

And Josh Allen doesn't have nearly the amount of weapons as the 49ers or the coach And he still leads the league in touchdowns both passing and rushing. And Josh Allen has the second best touchdown to turnover ratio and the league behind Dak Prescott. That means that if everybody else scored the same amount of touchdowns as Josh Allen they would have even more interceptions than he does. Allen's turnovers didn't cost him that game when the defense couldn't make a stop against the Patriots, Josh Allen's turnovers didn't cost them when they had too many men on the field against the Broncos, Josh Allen's turnovers didn't cost them that game against Philly when the defense couldn't stop them in overtime.
