1st comment on his comment lol
Please do a video about what happened to every NFL team that went 15-1 or better I am subbed BTW and your vids are great and who ever likes this comment is an absolute legend
Hey that’s crazy I just barely made a video about this guy on my channel!!
Where did you find all this footage of Schlichter? I just did a video on him on my channel and could barely find ANY footage. Especially the charlie baumann interception one.
Well at least it wasn't DraftKings...
Would’ve been the perfect episode for a DraftKings sponsorship
Or prize picks 😂
Would have been hilarious but would probably be in poor taste lol
@@j.peters1222 I mean gambling sponsors are always in bad taste
One of the best comments I seen on anything in a while
i was waiting for it 🤣
No way my grandma was just saying how I shouldn’t play poker because I could end up like this guy and then you guys drop a video 20 minutes later
Your grandma is KTO that’s why
I'm in your walls
That's crazy
Quit Lying lil bro
@@frenchfrey65are you Carson the Article????
Conning the life of a lady whose son you apparently saved multiple decades ago out of a million bucks is insane. That poor lady probably saw him as a hero until then 💀
😔
I don’t which is worse: Conning a lady whose son you saved or the lady joining in on you conning people after you conned her.
@@joeyhenriques7289It depends tbh. His offense was worse but if the dementia was already impairing his judgement, that reduces his culpability.
ngl I thought you were about to say "... has lost millions of his own money and others money GAMBLING. Now before we continue, this video is sponsored by DraftKings!!!" 🤣
What’s ironic is that now you can’t go watch an NFL game or even go to an NFL stadium without seeing hundreds of gambling ads this is a example of what happens to a person when they’re just consumed by the greed of making money and constantly trying over and over again but now the NFL seems to be marketing gambling a lot, so I’m worried that it’s only a matter of time before it happens again
Yeah, I absolutely hate it. I lose respect for the RUclipsrs that take money from them as well, though I do understand why they do it.
I mean it has happened again in other sports, Evander Kane is well known to have spent absurd amounts of money gambling while playing in the NHL
Athletes have been gambling in sports at least since the 1919 Black Sox scandal. From then till now, it probably goes on way more than we even want to imagine.
I was a freshman during Art's senior year. Dude was a real piece off work. Amazing athlete...amazingly entitled. I was walking once thru the parking lot of St. John Arena, and Art was walking by to pass in front of me from right to left. From the left were two guys walking toward Art. One of the two guys said to Art, "hey Art, nice job against Minnesota". As they came together, Art proceeded to beat the stew out of both of them...right in front of me. Art didn't throw his dukes up and box the two of them. It wasn't like that. He grabbed one and then the other and punched the sh*t out of both of them. It was like a lion taking down two baby deer. I doubt the three of them even noticed that I was there. Art could have been a linebacker or a defensive end. He was pretty powerful.
First I'd heard of this guy was right before the Colts played in their first Super Bowl with Peyton Manning.
Also, seriously, KTO, your production has improved a LOT. The graphics look like something you'd see on an ESPN documentary.
"When you throw the ball only three things can happen and two of them are bad" is a really stupid thought because that also applies to the run game
Woody was a fucking nut case man I wouldnt lose to much sleep over it lol. But a running back does fumble at a lower rate than a QB throws INTs so there is something there I think
On a running play lots of things can happen:
Fumble
Stopped for loss
Holding penalty
Stopped for no gain
Short gain
Big gain
First down
Touchdown
@@mitchbrown6652 yeah but he didn't make a case based on odds, just outcomes. Also I'd reckon that TDs are scored less frequently on runs compared to passes
@@lmnisop5516 I suppose it would depend on how far back the data goes, but ya we would need A LOT of information in order to come to an accurate conclusion
@michaelkeller5927. On a passing play lots of things could happen too!!😆 either way, it's a turnover.... Kwim.😆
What a different time we live in. Now there’s gambling ads all over football games.
Yep. Sadly :(
That's why I'm not a gambler.
I'll bet like $5 on a game but that's maybe twice a year. Most people I know know that I don't gamble so they don't even bother asking.
When I was in my senior year of highschool I went on a cruise with my family. Because I was 18 and international waters I tried my hand at blackjack. Made a couple hundred day 1 and lost it all and more over the next 2 days. Horrible feeling but an important lesson to learn the hard way that the house always wins and know when to walk away.
As someone who has dealt with addiction issues for a lot of my life, I’ve always considered myself very lucky to get absolutely nothing out of gambling. It’s always seemed like such a waste to me. Probably helped that, anytime I ever did it, even just buying scratch offs, I always lost.
i was in foster care with a lady whose son was Darrett Barber, star linebacker for Alhambra High School. went on a full scholarship to Ohio State in the late 80s, and he told me he ran with Art quite a bit. his career ended because of knee and shoulder injuries, but he said he was doing the same things: gambling horses and sports, drinking, drugs, you name it. ive always kept tabs about Art because of it
Dang two videos on this dude in the same week? Shoutout to another goat Mattbegreat who covered this guy, as well.
I’m glad Mattbegreat is getting recognition he deserves.
Been a long time resident of Columbus. So its funny to hear about places Ive actually been to like the horse track Scioto Downs. The only time I ever went there was when my grandparents took my brother and I there to "see the horses" when I was about 10 or so ... even at that age, I knew gambling was a quick road to serious addiction.
Art schlicter the original mega bust of the 80s
Damn straight Art Schlicter was Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell before them and is was and forever will be one of the most disgraced athletes in history
@@metsandjetsfan5174at least Leaf apparently straightened out his life eventually and I haven't heard anything bad about Russel. This guy just kept on going. Just like Lawrence from Nebraska back in the 90s. That dude died in prison. I'm sure there are other NFL bust that ended badly but they weren't as high a draft bust.
@@ericgaskins571 affirmative, Ryan Leaf is walking a straight and narrow in life and as for Lawrence Phillips he was looking at the death penalty for first degree homicide but ended his own life what a tragic way to go
@@metsandjetsfan5174Phillips got so many chances to come back. I think it was like 5 different chances they gave him and he just kept dropping the ball on it. He was a truly amazing running that ball. Sucks. Russell had problems too, kept getting fat, and never studied the play book. To test him the coaches sent him home with blank dvds that they said had the plays they wanted him to study for the next day. He always said he watched them but they never had anything on them. Kinda pointless if you aren't gonna give it your all.
@@ericgaskins571 russell was never a bad dude he just wasnt emotionally and mentally mature enough to handle the nfl
So this guy was such a bust year 1, that the Colts were bad enough to pick #1 in 1983. And then John Elway didn't want to play for them, so he forced a trade to the Broncos.
Add Art and Elway to the list of 1st round QBs picked by the Colts whose career didn’t pan out the way the colts wanted (Jeff George, Andrew Luck). Manning is the only exception.
@@teddykincaid971and what's crazier is, of those, Schlichter is the only one you mentioned that didn't have ANY career success, whether with Indy or elsewhere in the NFL
@@thebestcentaurRemember... the Colts were "Baltimore" before the move in '84
@@MarloSoBalJr my point stands
Colts owner Bob Irsay was a drunken buffoon. Elegy told them he did not want to play for the organization . They could have gotten a lot by trading the draft slot. Instead they drafted eldest who said he was going to play baseball in Yankees organization. Irsay panicks and trades Elway in a fire sale
Never heard of this guy until MattBeGreat’s video like last week😂
fr
the editing quality is stepped up crazy in this one! great job karsten!
Someone comments this exact same comment in every sports content creators comment section.
Dear chronic gamblers, remember this valuable stat: 95% of gambling addicts quit right before they hit it big.
Lmao
Dude hahahaha
based
I love stories like this. Not what happened to him and people around him but the fact that it's a good story about a guy I would have not known about had you not brought it up. Want to hear more interesting stories from no name guys in the future
Man the Colts really had it bad during the 80s and 90s. This guy ended up being a draft bust then the next year John Elway basically told them to go kick rocks.
I was standing next to Art on a payphone in May of 2000 when he was arrested by the feds at Eastpark Restaurant in Ravenna, Ohio. A very fond memory indeed. 😁
This is an insane story I never heard about. Awesome content as always KTO.
Fun fact he was actually spotted at the Sioto downs with Ohio state head coach earl bruce one time. Something like that would never happen today
This is actually so sad, can’t believe he threw it all away like that
Nice quarterbacking pun lol
Love you karsten!! Hope all is well.
Always quality material, KTO! Love what ya do, man!
amazing video once again
you sir need to be part of a 30 for 30 editing team
Good God enough with the editing comments.
Nothing like getting a fanduels ad on a video about a guy who threw his life away gambling
It would've been the funniest thing ever to save this video for a draft kings or prizepicks sponsorship lmfao
I don’t know why in all of the “top nfl busts of all time” videos all over RUclips, the first time I even heard of this guy was from this video. He should be mentioned alongside Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russel for sure
Your editing style has improved so much in these past few months, keep up the great work!
Growing up in the same small town as Art did, his story was pretty well told as a cautionary tale from parents and coaches alike. Wasn't expecting a KTO video that was hometown adjacent but it was well done!
I love those old egg commercials like “this is ur brain on drugs u get it” nah u just created more questions and now I gotta try it
As someone from the Columbus area, i don't think i have ever heard someone say Scioto wrong. Gave me a chuckle
SAME. I was rolling. Hahaha.
Mike Pagel, I knew his brother. He was substitute teaching at Miami Beach elementary School and former Mariner Corps Officer. His brother was really nice gentlemen to the children and showed great work ethics. I can see how Mike Pagel was so successful in the Pros.
Best video yet. Can't yet for next one. Keep them about qbs
Great video as always KTO! My brother worked at a casino for 4 years and saw a lot of similar shit go down. Gambling is a serious problem for a lot of people and more people should be aware of the dangers of it.
Thank you for posting the video.
Now that's dedication 🎉
Always a banger 💪🔥
I love these hidden gem stories bro!
This was really well done and informative. Buckeye legend despite his many, many interceptions. Such a life of poor decisions.
Great video
The most important trait for a gambler to have is knowing when to stop. Art clearly never developed that, and now gambling has consumed his life
Reminds me of the qb from longest yard by burt reynolds
Wow so he owed some people $700k and instead of at least starting to pay some of it back he decides to trick them into getting arrested by the FBI...What a guy...
Great video!
Epic video!!
"Now before we continue, this video is sponsered by..." my jaw was ready to drop for a DraftKings promo
How dare this dude grift Dave Thomas' widow?! Bruh
Dave Thomas was a f***in' legend
That was a plot twist I wasnt expecting
It wasn't Dave's wife, it was the wife of Wendy's CEO during the 80s.
keep up the good work
I love videos talking about NFL Draft Busts
Most gamblers quite just before they win big… you got this Art.
Lmfaoooo
We Love your vids KTO
Calvin Ridley taking notes as we speak.
I was waiting for that draft kings sponsorship to hit
I was hoping you would choose Art Schlichter as a subject after you did the Robert Irsay Colts video. You would think that at some point he would have looked in the mirror and said to himself, 'What the f**k am I doing? I need to stop. I threw away my NFL career.' Or later on, 'I threw away my family.'. Or 'I threw away my friendships.' Or 'I threw away my reputation.'. Or for the first time 'I threw away my freedom.'. And if he did think about these things, it didn't matter to him enough and there was no low he would not sink to. You have to wonder if he was eventually going to kill somebody if he was desperate enough.
Not only is he an addict, but he's a snitch too.
Yes. Now do the first square quarterback who gambled his career away.
Inspirational🙏🙏
No way I just got a FanDuel Ad on this video 🤣🤣🤣
Now THAT is dedication
"This episode us sponsored by Draft Kings! Now it's faster and easier than ever to place bets on your favorite sporting events! Start today!"
Im so glad Ohio State qb agenda is over with now I see why they say we cant develop qbs 😂
Props to you KTO for making this video in the era of sleezy gambling sponsorships blanketing channels like yours.
I need to know what font you used for the timeline starting at 11:00 they are perfect for the time period discussed. Absolutely chef’s kiss
“That's why you... should never gamble Anthony. What was I supposed to do? That's my livelihood, that's how I put food on the table. You should never gamble Anthony!”
-Johnny Soprano
I’m sure Pete Rozelle would be very happy to see the league he built has been basically consumed by sports books
Yk it’s a good day when KTO uploads
Speaking from personal experience: I came up with a system to bet pro Football, one year made about $300.00 but with the time I put into analysis that came out to mathematically less than minimum wage. The next year I subsequently bet $500.00 and won a total of $571.50. Proffit of $71.50 with a risk of one half of a thousand dollars. I quit immediately, that is how people get addicted to gambling.
Got a DraftKings AND FanDuel ad during this video. What a ride
“But before we get to that , a word from our sponsor DRAFTKINGS!” Hahah
Bro was not dedicated enough, I'm sure one more sping my man would have one it all back!
Another video drop from one my Childhood sports GOATS.
Great expose
This is a great video and super beneficial. Might just save someone’s life, before they ruin it.
Crazy !
No joke I saw a guy wearing this guy’s jersey on the Las Vegas Strip. Great synergy…
love vids
Its a rare occurrence when a KTO video doesn't end on some epic highlight play... Truly a sad story here
I remember bear fans wishing for this guy in 82, they took McMahon and won super bowl xx!
Knew about all the stuff covered by the NFL Top 10 Draft Busts video ~2010. But conning the widow and that he's still being arrested to this day...ouch...at least Leaf and Russell were able to get it together eventually.
My mom used to have class with him and would take notes for the football team. Out of all the athletes should knew… she talks about how arrogant he was.
Love the the vids, but nobody has ever done one on the greatest ncaa duo ever insane stats(chase clement & jarrett dillard) Rice football
Hell yeah 3 and Out is dope
Before the video: Lol the real life Paul Crewe
After video: Naw this dude was Fucked up 😂
This was a pretty good video but the way you pronounce Scioto Downs was hilarious. As someone from southern Ohio I can understand why you'd pronounce it that way, but still very funny.
For anyone wondering, it's pronounced Sigh-O-Da.
Kind of crazy that Trey Lance puts all these busts to shame with him not even playing much after the 49ers gave up so much
“Now before we continue, this episode is sponsored by Draft Kings” would had been hilarious 😂
One of greatest QB I ever saw
Best NFL channel
On Youtibe bro.. love watching you get bigger on here! Congrats on your success
The goat
Could have made it all back and more if he didn't quit. Quitters never win and winners never quit ( i have lost my home and my entire family cooking up +100 000 32 leg parlays )
Could you make a video about the nfc 3 seed curse from 2017-2024
Anyone wanting more info on Art look up episode 20 of Crime in Sports podcast, they talk about even more crazy things he did.
Got me scared to place my draft kings bet💀💀💀
Okay im over it now
Literally got a FanDuel ad during this
Great video. When I was old enough to bet, I went to that horse buggy race track in Ohio and won $40, thought that was a big deal. Is that actual footage from that track?
