Babymetal have always been treated very well in the UK. In fact, their breakout moment happened in the UK in 2014 at the Sonisphere festival. They were all but unknown outside of Asia except for one viral video on RUclips that was very polarizing to some metal-heads. Regardless though, there was so much buzz around them that they were moved from a side stage to opening the main stage. Rumors were that there were a lot of hardcore metal-heads that were not happy that this gimmicky Japanese band of teenage girls was going to be playing at their metal festival, so they were going to boo them off the stage or throw bottles at them. All that went right out the window when they hit the stage. They kicked so much ass in their 30 minute set that not only was the crowd of 60,000+ all jumping and moshing, but begging for more as they left the stage. It was this performance that put them on the world stage as a legitimate metal act, and they have considered the UK their second home since then.
Here is a video of the final song from that Sonisphere show - ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html

The UK has always embraced heavy music so this doesn't surprise me.

@@freetobewhoibe 2018 was the worst time for Babymetal. The Kami Band guitarist Mikio died in a tragic accident and Yui Mizuno left the group. Yui was the cutest one, she really could be a very successful model/actress she is that pretty. I am getting off my point. You are seeing Babymetal at their worst in this video. There was a cloud of tragedy hanging over them. Here is a very short spoiler free video with some cute pictures of Yui. ruclips.net/video/G3M9ylD6dEc/видео.html

You are not the first one to get a little emotional during that middle section. I'm not quite sure what it is, but that's one of the great things about BABYMETAL, they tend to evoke all sorts of emotions (primarily happiness, though). I think the choreography plays a huge role in that. The song is about standing together and not giving up after losing a battle. It gets pretty clear once you watch the official music video (which I recommend anyway as it's very well done).
What I find especially fascinating about this song is how well it works both as Metal tune and as a Pop song. That chorus is indeed hard to forget, so catchy!

Download 2016 version should have been the best option to watch first, also the official MV (but that's heavily blocked so be careful), don't get me wrong, i love this one too, but the early blackout at the end, and not knowing the context on this Dark Side era, is why i don't recommend this for first time watch, but at least is live and not a compilation so that's a plus and i'm not complaining at all :)
Don't rush to early material and songs, enjoy them since their beggining with songs like _Megitsune, Iine!, Ijime Dame Zettai, Headbanger!, Rondo Of Nightmare and Onedari Daisakusen._ There will be more songs to choke up, don't worry, they got that power, but also they have so much fun while blasting your ears with metal. 🦊🤘

@@freetobewhoibe For real, there's gonna be more, what you watched there is their "Strong style" performance without any help of lights or personal setup and mininal production, some people like it some not, wait for their "Theatrical style", not saying this is bad, just different and enjoyable too. But watching your reaction again I think if the part when the girls fall down gets you, then that part is missing a little bit in the Download 2016 version, you'll get what I'm saying when you watch that. That's another special thing on them, they try to make something different everytime they performed in different places to make you feel special and memorable. Again not saying this one is bad only not recommend for first time watch since it belongs to another era and a lot of things to explain, like YuiMetal isn't there because she left the group due to healthy issues but they and the fans were waiting for her to return, but that's not what happened, sadly.
Anyway, keep enjoying BabyMetal songs, "The One" will help you, I will try to follow your journey. Peace! 🦊🤘

Welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. Sleeping on this band was the biggest mistake many have made. Myself included. They immediately became my favorite band. To ME, they don't have a bad song. Nothing I would skip on all 3 albums. They are the master at crowd interaction and control and before you know it, these girls feel like your family. The Kami band is beyond talented and have great personalities as well. I hope you keep going down the Fox hole. You seen nothing yet. 🤘🦊🤘

Nice reaction. Moa rising and giving a kick felt rather heroic. Babymetal will bring out the emotions. Mostly happy ones. They have away to make folks feel better even when they're feeling down in the dumps. If your ever feeling in a bad mood and just want to be happy even for a moment. Put on Babymetal. When it comes to Babymetal most of us just do what Su said "Don't Think, Feel". Yes it's a take on the Bruce Lee quote but hey if your gonna quote someone Bruce Lee is a good one. I forget which movie it's from but in the scene a student throws a kick for him. Bruce ask him what he felt about it. When the students says "let me think". Bruce smacks him in the head and says "there's No Thinking, Only Feeling". Bruce Lee fans ran around saying that for years. Su brought it back. It works really well for their songs. Folks can get hung up on the lyrics or that it's not in a language they understand. But what's important is how did it make you feel. The video going blank was due to the festival recording messing up. Somebody should be fined for that. Always watch Babymetal to the end. Babymetal has a lot of great festival appearances but the audio and video isn't always the best. They still put on a great show. Enjoy your journey through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

You come across like a guy that needed a dent in his masculinity. And you got it Babymetal style. The idea of "kids doing metal" is based on the presumption there is something wrong with that. But Babymetal hits that approach far below the belt. You simply cannot imagine the freshness, the fun and the pure artistry of their live concerts, in your head. It's not that now they got older, they got better...Sure it is different now, but they were highly impressive from the very beginning.
That moment you felt of being charmed by them runs through everything they did. In every performance they did there are moments you can feel touched to the core. When I first saw them doing Sonisphere 2014, Ijime Dame, Zettai I could not believe what I was seeing. The sheer guts of these "kids" in front of 65.000 metalheads. I bawled my eyes out and I'm a biker in his sixties.
What I'm saying is, it's sometimes good to wake up from our hard shell. And what they do is the perfect recipe to make that happen, lol!

From Motörhead to Cradle of filth and Dhimmu Borgir. I'm told by. Metal head friends that Babymetal gave the metal scene the big kick up the arse that it needed.

That long single note at the end that Su sings always gets me. It's an uplifting song about overcoming adversity so it's good that it moves us all. Don't be embarrassed! We've all been moved many times by the girls, for a number of reasons. Babymetal live are an experience not to be missed. Oh, and if you have any doubts about their Metal credentials, try the Legend 97 version of 'BABYMETAL Death', (ruclips.net/video/VE34mRpi6Qk/видео.html ) which is as heavyAF finale to a show as anything I've seen Maiden, Metallica and Rammstein finish a gig with! Babymetal Death, which Tony suggested, is the final song; the two before it are Headbanger and Akatsuki (Unfinished ver.). How about starting with Headbanger and working your way through all three of those songs?
I'll paste some links to high-quality uploads of each one. They'll be especially useful because both Akatsuki unfinished and Babymetal Death have video intros which are entirely in Japanese, and the versions you'll find just searching them on YT don't have subs.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy - and yes don't worry, that video goes black towards the end, it was nothing you did. The video for 'Distortion' live at Download 2018 is a good one.
2018 was their 'dark side' tour, so the costumes had changed (you will see what I mean when you watch earlier performances) and as Yui wasn't touring (she was still a member of the band, but was still trying to recover from whatever was wrong) Su and Moa were supported by the two dancers you saw in this one (they were affectionately dubbed 'Muscle Metal' by the fans).
I'm sure we can fill you in on their history, who is who, what each song is about etc as you go on ... so I'll resist adding my usual wall of text for now (much to a lot of peoples' relief I'm sure).
As you read "Kawaii Metal was pioneered in the early 2010s" ... BABYMETAL formed in 2010.
Their name does put some people off but 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons:
    - to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal)
    - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun):
    BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru)
    heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)
I'll add my vote to 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 - and to every other song that has been or will be recommended (but leave 'Gimme Chocolate' until you're a few songs in - unless you do a proper live version and not the official video) ... and I'm looking forward to what you make of 'Road of Resistance' as you've said that will be next - I hope you like DragonForce as Herman Li and Sam Totman wrote the guitar arrangements for that one.

The song is about over coming your inner demons. They were the first Japanese Group/Band to perform in Wembley Arena, a sellout and broke the record for merchandise sold. They began when they were 13 (Su) and 11 (Moa and Yui).

One of the primary goals of their choreography and theatrics is to overcome the language barrier and communicate the essential meaning of their songs to people anywhere in the world. So, mission accomplished this time! 😀

Feeling something during their "story" choreo doesn't make you a pussy, it just makes you a well rounded human being and not some 'IT'S NOT METAL BECAUSE IT'S NOT A BUNCH OF OLD BLOKES WITH TATTOOS LOOKING BORED" elitest. I started with metal in 1990 with Iron Maiden and still feel that Babymetal are the freshest thing in metal in decades. Adds some fun to the rawk. As far as aa recommendation - try Catch Me If You Can. It goes HARD and the choreo is a lot of fun.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 👻 👻 👻
There's a good reason this was the featured single from the second album, 'Metal Resistance' (2016).
They made a lot of friends among other groups by playing a bunch of metal festivals, and this song converted quite a few.
As is usually the case, the riffs are heavier live.
Like a lot of BABYMETAL songs, this one has a positive message about facing life's challenges.
Let me add a vote for 'Rondo of Nightmare', one of Su's solo songs.
This 2014 Budokan Black Night version, with a short instrumental lead-in by their live Kami Band, is a classic: ruclips.net/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/видео.html

Good reaction. I encourage you to watch "Road of Resistance live in Japan" so you can see what 17 and 15 year old girls can ride you. It is probably one of the best live performances I have ever seen. Regarding the song, the part where they are on the ground I interpret it as that although the situation may bring you down, you should not give up. And that with the help of your friends you can face everything. Babymetal, especially in its beginnings, wrote songs aimed at young people, especially girls between 10 and 15 years old.
Another song you might want to check out is "Ijime Dame Zetai" that they played at Sonisphere 2014, whose performance catapulted them into the West. There if the dancers are really fighting the whole song (it's a song against bullying)

It’s interesting how often people declare they dislike something they’ve never tried.
You should go back to their early stuff, when the girls were very young. I recommend Megitsune (Minx), the MV. Onondari Dai Sakusen will resonate with anyone who has raised a daughter. Road of Resistance is their most epic song. So many other good ones, spanning a variety of styles.

"Kawaii Metal" is Mix of J-Pop & "Every" kind of Metal !!

Especially the "Stairway to Living Legend" version of their song "The One". Those videos had me feeling like a 56 year old softy. The emotion for me though comes from a sense of pride. That was excellent, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Karate isn't one of my favorite Babymetal tracks, but it's still a great song and I do really like the lyrical themes of overcoming oneself - I think that's something we can all relate to in some ways, and the choreography/performance does such a good job of conveying the message that you picked up on it emotionally even without being able to understand the lyrics. That's part of what makes Babymetal so great. :)

What is the song about? Our worst enemy is ourselves. What holds us back more than anything is ourselves. Defeat those elements of yourself that hold you back and you can do anything.... and that's what this song is about. Overcoming yourself. As for the emotion? That's Babymetal. I have no clue how they do it, but they do it. And you don't have to be an emotional wreck for it to occur.

  • @Jordan-Ramses

Saying that Babymetal is a Kawaii Metal group is like saying that Rogue is a Rogue-like game. Or that Battle Royale is a Battle Royale movie. They invented the genre. They named it. It was a genre invented to describe them after they already existed :) I actually don't think the genre existed until about 2014. Maybe they retroactively invented it back to Babymetal's formation in Oct 2010.
I recommend 'Headbanger' live at Legend of 1997. Legend of 1997 was a concert on Dec 21 2013 in honor of Suzuka Nakamoto who was born in 1997. It was the day after her 16th birthday. 16 is not actually a big birthday in Japan. The big ones are 15 and 20. But it was still a birthday party. :)

I would argue that Babymetal is more of an idol-act with metal music than an metal-act, but what's really important is that the music is awesome! It is understandable that some people where unshure of how to react when they first came to the scene, but by now I think most people who've given them a chance have realised that both the girls and their band are really damn talented! Songs like Karate, Megitsune, Kagerou and Distortion kick ass and where amazing live! I had the pleasure of watching them play live at a medium-sized stage in Oslo right before lockdown started, and it was a ton of fun. Sadly you picked the worst video out of the 3, since this one it has that blank screen for some time... The MV is really good, won a few awards for best Metal Video in Japan in 2016, and the 2016 Download had the original lineup and some nice crowd interaction! Oh well, glad you enjoyed it :D
This was in 2018, so they were adults, but they started as kids, but the music was always top notch! But probably it was a bit more poppy and not so well blended at the beginning! Even thought I enjoy a lot their early songs ;)
If you want to get an idea of how they started, there are their 2 official MV that are pretty safe to react to, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine".
They don't stick to 1 single music genre, but they have experienced a lot. I read that you like progressive music, so you should definitely check "Tales of the Destinies" from them! They only performed it live once in 2016, and you can find the video if you look for the Babymetal Reactor Resource channel, that has a video with link to live performance that have transparent logos on top so that they are safe to react to. Some of those videos also have subtitles!

Luckyli this was only for limited period of time. They always perform 3 of them. Su -main vocals/dance and moa/yui backing vocals/dance. After yui left they rotate 3 girls they call them "avengers" And they take yui place, but they dont sing. They only dance. Su and moa are only singers. Anyway youtube blocking like 90% of their live shows so only few of them are still on. I have almost all their blurays with live shows and this video is probably worst i have seen lol. From what is avalaible on youtube go for ijime dame zettai Sonisphere live, Road of resistance live japan, headbanger 1997, megitsune 1997.And i think headbanger and megitsune videos are also avalaible from budokan night.
