Picking a lot like Shawn here.. I don't think anyone can play that fast and clean, where it just brings tears to my eyes, where I just fall and give glory to God, and that smooth.. and live like that.. I praise God for your gift. Wow..🙏
Thx Jason. I’ve been playing like this for over 30 years. It wasn’t learnt from anyone I just went for what felt right and altered my picking to what felt comfortable. I call it ‘Hybrid Sarod’ It’s basically Sarod style with a double Gypsy rest stroke. This video is also now 20 years old, live and D.I’d straight to front of house with no back line or guitar effects so I don’t really classify this as a video of how I ‘sound’ Needless to say my own method and tone has improved in this time. Here’s another live more up to date link below playing through my rig. Hope to get out playing live this year or the next depending how this pandemic pans out but be assured I’ll be streaming live this year at some point. Thx for the support mate! @@LawofThree reminded me of how his thumb pointed up like Shawn. I'm stoked to hear and know you came into these things yourself. That's Soo cool man.... Totally extraordinary 🙏😁 A definite rarity. Wow😶
Discovering all your music. Each track blows my mind! So much emotion in how you play yet with extreme technical accuracy. I feel like I will never stop listening!
I accidentally saw your game and watched all your videos!!!You are an incredible guitarist!!!Thank you for your hard work willpower!!!Good luck with everything!!!
Every time i see roy play that yamaha pacifica i just remember being in his flat in dublin and he took out a jig saw and totaly cut the end off the guitar and when it appeared it would work we took back out the jig saw and cut my guitar away aswell. we sanded them down and they were great. anyway i went home to kilkenny.when i called called to roy he had taken the fretboard off of his ibenez 550s and replaced it with a steel plate. Man that thing sounded wack. just keeping it country. ye ha
@slanshroom Thank you Roy, the reason I thought you were using a Roland GR-20 was because it looks like you have a GK-3 pickup system on the guitar. BTW, what guitar is that?
AleX It’s a GK2A midi pickup. I used to use it as a passive pickup for synth sounds with a Roland VG88. The sounds on this video are guitar direct to desk. I used only a CS3 pedal straight into a D.I. to front of house, I think our sound engineer added a little Reverb. No backline or fxs at all and played Live in Tashkent to over a million in the Middle East. Pressure moment. It was also 17 years ago, some things have evolved quite a bit since then.
That's a shame. If you do decide to record or write some instructional material, please let me know. I will certainly buy it. I could even offer links to it from my instructional website.
Is this full show, or more of it, available somewhere? I keep coming back to this video and wanting more. Just found in the comments, not really, alas.
Plenty more LIVE and up to date footage on you tube for you mate. This is now 20 years old in front of a 5000 strong audience, televised to millions in the Middle East! Straight to desk. No fxs, no backline, nada. I don’t think of this as a true representation of what I ‘sound’ like as some are so willing to promote. Good memories though 🙏
@@LawofThree Okay I hear ya, in that case I'll be sure to do my due diligence and really find your true sound/essence, as it evolves/stands, today. Just love that Middle Eastern sound as it is! Very cool performance side-project (for lack of a better word) in any case!
Hi, this was all the footage there was on the original video i was sent and the only piece to feature elec guitar, i would doubt the rest would be of little if any interest to guitarists, for anyone else who is, there is a 6 min vid titled roy marchbank with the iron horse and sogdiana promo vid from 2001 on ytube as well.Hope this helps, cheers
***** How's it goin?! Hope all is well! I was curious to see if you've begun your assault on 8 string guitars yet :D and... did you get a private message from me?! Regarding your new fan here!

20 years ago I was touring with a Scottish contemporary folk band called Iron Horse. I got the call for this tour with Uzbekistan 20 piece chamber orchestra Sogdiana and that’s how I met the guys.

A master from such a young age. This is quite beautiful! You really are the Shawn Lane of your generation, a true maestro.

@@JerryLeeHowell2 Nothing I've heard from Roy is even slightly reminiscent of Shawn Lane. The only comparison is that they are immaculate musicians.
Super beautiful precision picking..💖👌👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
Excellent, great feel!
Never thought I'd come across a player who makes Chris Impellitteri or Rusty Cooley seem slow and timid.
This is exquisite!

absolutely fucking mindblowing dude
Stellar Roy, my brother. Wish we didn't live continents apart from each other, so I could see you play live. Hope all's well, take care.

So have you ever thought of picking up an 8 string?
Imagine the sweeps and runs :D
Just a thought, Peace!
Wow! Your an amazing player :)
Are you using a Roland GR-20?
What arpeggios were you using (theory wise)?
Wow...what is that instrument from 1.01 forwards? Awesome sound... :)
It would be great to see a lesson/breakdown of your technique. You have ridiculous speed!
