Early in my relationship I realized my partner was a bit more of a risk taker than I. I tend think I’m more level headed. Hiking 6 hours through a rainforest to get to a sign that said No Emergency Services Past This Point “proceed at your own risk”, over the fence we crawled, going over crevices I was certain contained lava tubes, we hiked upwards another hour where it was so windy I could hardly stand. Yet we kept trodding forward until we found ourselves right on the edge of a caldera with a huge pit of boiling lava. The wind had blown the sulphuric gases further on the far side so we never saw it until right on it. He was so euphoric he was skipping around the edge getting closer to the lava taking pictures. I, being happy to have experienced it, and not needing to have the crusty edge break and be given as some sacrifice, decided one of us needed to head back down. He says when he looked around all he saw was my backside hoofing it back down and my crazy long red hair blowing in the wind. He said he thought “she gone and left me?!” We have laughed about that for 20 years. I knew then that he was my kite, and I was his string. That has been proven many times over as I have saved us from certain death and he has given me amazing, beautiful memories. I am guessing Denny is the string. lol.
