    We walk our girls with a harness, on a 4 foot leash, and I use a walking belt. And yeah, mine pull hehehe But It's because I want them to. They really help on hikes when going up hill! :)

      I got my harness from Alpine Outfitters from your recommendation, it actually improved our walks so much and he kind of stopped pulling on his own without much correction, he pulled way more when we just had the collar and he still walks ahead but with little tension. Alpine is great!

      Thank you so much for sharing this info! I've pinned it to the top so that people can see what alternatives that you use! :D What I'd really love to try, and will be reviewing soon, are the leads that have a bungee feature. I haven't tried them before, but they look like they're a happy medium between the retractable, and a traditional lead. Thanks again for watching! It's always a treat to see you adding to the comments!

  • @KeyushTheStuntDog
    @KeyushTheStuntDog 5 лет назад +172

    I walk Key to heel on a flat collar and waist lead, and I can strap a harness on him if I want him to pull, he doesn't pull unless he's told to, he knows commands for walking and running as we scooter often. It's personal preference, but I don't like flexi leads at all, especially on strong pulling breeds. In the wrong hands if your husky decided to charge after something while it's extended, they can get up a lot of momentum very quickly, get to the end of the lead and yank it right out of your hand, or damage your shoulder if you manage to hang on. And we've had dogs dart out in front of us into the road that were on extendable leads and caused cars to break hard. A dog tried to attack Key that was on one, as the lady tried vainly to real it back in, each lunge brought it closer to Key and I had traffic at my back! My sister also has a permanent scar on her leg from an extendable lead getting wrapped around it that was attached to someone else's dog. I know some people can use them safely and responsibly, but most don't, especially alongside roads. And with puppies even a leaf could see them dart out in front of a car! You don't have any control over them when it's extended. I'm sorry to rant, but we've had so many bad experiences with flexi leads :(

    • @SixtyFormula
      @SixtyFormula  5 лет назад +28

      Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! I agree, they can be dangerous if you don't use them properly. I'm glad you added this for the community to read, because it is important. That's why I stressed that you need to have a brain, and some responsibility to use them. Lock that leash up, focus on your walk with your pup, and stop staring at the stars people! I've almost exclusively used Flexi leashes since I've had each of the pups. I did start with traditional leads, however they constantly get tangled in the pups feet when they're young, and can scare them if they get stuck in it. I also feel like the Flexi leads have the benefit of rewarding with training - since you can limit your dogs distance in the beginning, and then as they learn to walk appropriately you can reward by adding distance from you and your dog, and then correct any further behavior by again limiting the length. Whatever works for your pup is the way to go! :) Thanks for adding Key!

    If nobody has mentioned this before. You should be careful around power transformers. It is very rare but they can have internal malfunctions or wires can break and actually energize the transformer which could harm your dog. It is very rare but just know that it is a possibility. I've worked for the power company for many years and in my time I've run into this twice. Once an elderly man was hospitalized and the other, luckily it was the low voltage side that malfunctioned and just caused a painful experience for the young lady involved. Love your videos!

    my husky and my malamute walk loose leash side by side, with the inside dog having their shoulder directly beside my knee. i turn left, they turn left. i go right, they're attached together and to me. they do so off leash on my property as well but i wouldn't try them off leash in town - i'm not risking that right now. they're both trained with a prong collar (highly controversial, i'm aware) but i was taught how to correctly use one. the dog only gets a correction if they stray away from you - it's not constant pressure, it's a quick snap and release to get their focus back on you and to follow you for direction so that they don't get hurt. i know people say horrible things about prong/pinch collars, but if you use them correctly it will not hurt your dog, you just need to be educated on the timing, situation, etc for when to correct and when to not.
    i wouldn't tolerate a dog pulling me on a walk - absolutely not. but on a sled, scooter, bike, long board, hell yes. they need to be trained for that though. a walk should be peaceful; you shouldn't have your dog dragging you in every which direction.

    I have two husky puppies and I have yet to take them on their first walk because I’m too afraid of them like not listening or getting scared or accidentally getting off their leash even though I have harnesses for them I’m just very nervous and hopefully this video will help me have some peace of mind and give me some good advice

    Flex leash to go potty in the yard.
    6 Foot leash for walking/walks.
    I've seen so many flex leashes BREAK when needed the most. The other week I was at a hotel with my puppy. Some lady let her 6 month old lab outside too with her flex leash.
    SNAP!
    She's holding a plastic handle and puppers is running towards my dog and me full speed.
    I grabbed her dog nicely and walked it back over to her. Same thing happened to me with an adult German Shephard dog in high school. Parents ALWAYS told me to NEVER use the flex leash on walks, its' not reliable. Maybe some are. I'm 27 and I've never seen a 6 foot boring leash break as badly as a flex one. If the dog was running towards a car I dont' want my leash snapping to be even on my mind. And when it does on a Flex it's out of your hands already. It's on the end, your hand isn't by that.

    I use the retractable lead at the beach. For normal walks I use a leash that has a bit of a spring action (called shock action I think they are). I always use a front attach harness too. :)
    Bit hard to go for walks at the moment though. Weather is around 35 degrees C each day for a week. :(

    Do you ever walk both of them together? Because I have two samoyeds and they are perfect walkers by them selves BUT every time I go out with both of them (witch is quite often) they go CRAZY!

      I have a 10 year old Husky mix and a 4 month old Husky and I walk them together. I started walking them together because he (old dog) hated her at first and they behaved the best while walking. It's an adventure. ;)

    Our 6 month old husky slipped out of her collar and ran off for the first time yesterday on our walk. It could've been worse, she only ran 400m(albeit majestically) back to the ice cream stand we were just at trying to get a second free ice cream cone lol.

    I’m confused at 11:18 when you said “leave your DM’s down below” did he intentionally lift up his butt because it was a trick 😂 because after that you said “Boom perfect”

      My Husky is 3 months. We keep her in our room with a gate so she can’t get to the rest of the house. She’s too friendly and small, I fear thieves or larger animals.
      If I had the option outside would 100% be our choice, they are too energetic for small spaces. We make up for it with very long walks, fast pace running and healthy meals!

      @@BUY_CRO_BEFORE_1DOLLAR Same here we started letting our Appa out and letting him sleep with us around 6-9 months because he was potty trained (didn't like pooping w/o a shelter like a bush LOL we still had accidents but now that his bladder is fully in we haven't had any since he was 9mon.) ((turned 1 year last month
