What's really surreal about all this is the fact that this version actually sounds happier than the one we've been listening to all these years, especially with the lyrics being more clear. Dare I say that, if this was indeed the logo they used back in the 80s (which I'll admit I'm not sure of), it was ahead of the typical aesthetics of the time. This logo looks like it was made 20 years after. Like I can picture myself playing something like Jet Set Radio or even Splatoon and seeing this logo on a billboard or something. 😳
Man, imagine being the band and thinking you died in obscurity, only to find out decades later that the world has been unknowingly trying to track you down. Can’t wait to hear the re-recording of this
Hopefully in the new re-recorded version, he can actually sing in tune this time. Maybe even use a touch of autotune if necessary (not enough to be a noticeable effect, just enough to make the singing in tune). Because in this original version he's constantly singing just a tad too sharp. Like a microtone amount. Once you hear it you can't unhear it, and it really bothers me. I don't have perfect pitch, or anything, and I can actually appreciate when sometimes singers deliberately sing slightly out of tune for a better effect, in particular when blues singers will sing certain notes a microtone too flat to really add the bluesiness to it. But I don't think it really fits in this, this I guess new wave song? I love what 80s music I've heard, but I'm not really an expert. Is this new wave? Or is it some kind of post-punk?
This 54 year old man has tears in his eyes😢. For 10 years I waited. Now the greatest mystery has been solved. To Darius and Lydia, you are heroes in my heart. Long live FEX.

My favorite detail about this is that this feels so victorious. Listen to the “original” and it sounds surreal and melancholy, almost on the verge of being depressing (in a good way). Then listen to this and it has so much soul to it. It’s more polished. It feels like after the original aired on the radio, the group re-recorded to make it better, but thought nobody liked the original enough to release it. In particular is the addition at 1:16 (I think it’s called a snare) which legitimately made me pause what I was doing while listening to this and just freeze in surprise. This version gives me that feeling of awe that only a Journey song can even come close to. From 3:13 to the end is another great example. This is the best birthday present I could’ve asked for
I think what you are referring to at 1:16 is something called “ghost notes” that are definitely a feature on the snare. They are this way of adding flavor to things, not true strikes on the drum but little brushes on the side or drum-head. To me the addition of that sort of thing shows how comfortable and confident the drummer has become with the song, so that what was once perhaps an improvisation is now part of the “song” itself as they play it. Theres a live version of (edit: this song in 1985) where it becomes clear just how good the bassist is. I too also like the way the end is now powerfully syncopated in a sort of hard-rock or even thrash kind of beat. I’d love to hear the entire catalogue of these guys’ music, collectively as FEX but also anything they went on to do with others or on their own.

Maybe the cassette is actually just worn and stretched, but what would really help the quality of the song would be to rip it in a good quality cassette deck, like one from the late 80s, and a high quality capture card. Then do the remaster and export the RUclips video in 512 kbps, 48000 hz audio quality. That way, RUclips’s compression doesn’t totally screw with the audio quality.
In the Schleswig-Holstein Magazin TV report on NDR, they showed the cassette Ture brought being digitized on a professional broadcast level Tascam tape deck in the radio studio, so there's at least one high quality copy from that tape out there.
@@kevinramsey417 This version is essentially the one the band directly got from the recording studio. The other one was recorded off the radio on a lower grade cassette (the one you meant)
Can you imagine the bad timeline? The band members could’ve died. All the original tapes of this song could’ve been destroyed or faded throughout time. And any possible mention of the band could be gone without a trace. This song could’ve remained a mystery forever, and it would be impossible to solve. Maybe even some fakers trying to take credit for it. I’m glad we are in not in that timeline. This song has finally been found after so many years, thanks to everyone’s efforts and determination. I'm so happy right now... This was the song that introduced me to the Lostwave back in 2021, and now, after years of hearing the old version, being part of this community for what feels so long, I feel like I came back full circle. The being said, may this song be remembered forever as a song that made thousands of people reunite for one cause.
I would shit myself if this was used in a GTA VI trailer. It kind of sounds like it could be used in it. That would truly give the song the attention it needs, but I’m happy that the news is actually covering this story. I just hope that the lostwave community doesn’t fall apart because this song was found. I can see a lot of people calling it quits now that this song is finally put to rest.

I just hope that this song turned a lot of people onto Post-Punk, Neue Deutsche Welle, and New Wave in general. There were so so so many bands just like these guys that never got a fair break.

Its so crazy that this song is finally found. Me and another Indy wrestler literally fought over who got to use this song as their entrance music to walk to the ring. Crazy wholesome we found you FEX!!
WOW! Thank you so much for this great clean up of a brilliant song. I only discovered the story of 'the most mysterious song on the internet' a year or so ago, have been hooked ever since, and hoped the band and song could be identified. And now it's happened. The band are back together, we've witnessed a live acoustic performance and maybe the song will be re-recorded. It's ike a beautiful fairytale. The irony, though, of this song becoming an internet sensation over 40 years after it was demoed! What happened to the band in those lost years, did they all go their own ways, become desk clerks or builders maybe, and forgot the song just as the record company A&R people did? We need a full documentary! Like so many bands that never made it, there are some real gems of songs out there waiting to be discovered by a new generation, who can appreciate them like the record companies of the day never did. A new Stairway To Heaven, a new Bohemian Rhapsody, maybe. Not every great song gets its recognition. I hope the song will get an official downloadble single release, so they guys finally make a little money out of their creation. As a musician and songwriter who also had all my own demo tapes rejected, I know how they must have felt all these years - but now the song is out there and people finally love it.
I can finally die in peace once the songwriters were finally found after falling in obscurity and never getting recognition from the radio stations and the charts, happiness was indeed worth for fighting for
The only thing i can say, the lostwave community is the best, they did a lot of great things and made a lot of old bands get together again, thank you all guys, you all are amazing asf ❤
Genuinely the lostwave community gives me immense feelings of joy and hope on a very deep and primal level, mainly because they've shown that, noatter how forgotten something can eventually become, somehow a second chance at recognition is always possible!

I thought someone had made up this song and pretended it was from an 80s band. How crazy to know that the band actually existed all this time. And this song has a very mysterious vibe, it feels like something from a dream, something familiar that we've heard before.

@ That’s awesome! I hope they do an official release on Bandcamp or something!
Also remember it was recorded off the radio.
@@kevinramsey417 This version is essentially the one the band directly got from the recording studio. The other one was recorded off the radio on a lower grade cassette (the one you meant)
In addition to the fact that the identity of this song has been revealed, it is very touching that this song is an outstanding masterpiece.
This a victory not only for the song, but to everyone involved! May FEX enjoy this newfound fame and glory. Happiness is truly something worth fighting for.
I'm so happy right now... This was the song that introduced me to the Lostwave back in 2021, and now, after years of hearing the old version, being part of this community for what feels so long, I feel like I came back full circle.
The being said, may this song be remembered forever as a song that made thousands of people reunite for one cause.
The outro in this song feel like a reward for finding the full version after years of searching what the title of this song was.
We need this song on the radio in GTA VI
Absolutely
I would shit myself if this was used in a GTA VI trailer. It kind of sounds like it could be used in it. That would truly give the song the attention it needs, but I’m happy that the news is actually covering this story. I just hope that the lostwave community doesn’t fall apart because this song was found. I can see a lot of people calling it quits now that this song is finally put to rest.
we need it in fortnite
@@peterdrawsstuff let’s keep this song pure, yeah?
@@peterdrawsstuffbless your heart
The ending to this song is amazing! So happy to hear it's not just a fade out. Love the keyboard!
I HATE it when songs fade out. So lazy. So annoying.
@@No_True_ScotsmanI’m glad music doesn’t cater solely to your tastes then.
I love how epic the end sounds! As if the song knew the journey it would take.
Trust me, even from the original song we had years before we identified SOYM, ive alwaya thought the end verse was so good!
rma how the actual hell did i find you here
SERIOUSLY WHAT IS GOING ON HOW DO I KEEP FINDING PEOPLE I KNOW
@@endarkenedgd hi pooks
I am incredibly glad that I found this time when this song and this band were found.
Я невероятно рад, что застал это время, когда была найдена эта песня и эта группа.
Happiness has to be fought for... and fought we did
We have fought for our happiness and we won... Our efforts weren't wasted...
Nice reference
This could legitimately bring back the 80s
I can't get enough from this song, finally listening to a better quality version felt like an out of body experience
Greetings from Venezuela, been following this search since 2021
I know!! It's great! Beautiful in fact
I'm proud that I live in this time when a 40 year lost media song finally is here. ❤
It feels like we really made it
Hi, I'm from Brazil and I'm loving listening to the band's sound
eu te amo
Outro is EPIC
YES! MY THOUGHT EXACTLY!
Beautiful song 😊👌
Best remaster right here, thank you!
I just hope that this song turned a lot of people onto Post-Punk, Neue Deutsche Welle, and New Wave in general. There were so so so many bands just like these guys that never got a fair break.
Heard that. More people need to know of XTC.
FINALLY... some legitimate NEW 80s music to listen to...
This song is really, so good. Hope FEX gets all the love they deserve now that they’re finally properly discovered 👌🏻💖
Que música, mann! Que música 🎸! Agora que não é mais uma lostwave, essa sim, deve tocar até nas rádios do Brasil. Obra prima!
Concordo demais, essa obra prima tem que estar em todos os cantos 🙌
My dad was a huge fan of band like Depeche Mode, Talking heads, and things like that. he passed not too long ago and i would have loved to share this song with him, he would have loved it.
This sounds like magic
I’ve listened to it 10 times in a row today.
i hope it gets on spotify
What a massive win for the archival community! I’m so glad they finally found these guys !
This and EKT, what a year!🎉
Its so crazy that this song is finally found.
My New 80s classic!! Thanks for all of y’all’s hard work! We love you FEX!
The most mysterious song and it turns out to be a banger too. What an absolute win.
happiness was indeed something to fight for
OMG this is historic...a great song from a band that could have been iconic!!! Just think if these guys had good promotion and management!!
Esperei anos por esse momento.. FEX, a internet ama voces
I don't feel like we're living in the best timeline, but finding this song makes me think we aren't in the worst one either :)
We are 100% in the most interesting timeline though.
I can really tell the lost version was an early version, mainly because of the small different lyric changes and longer ending
There won't be an internet mystery to top this!!
2024 was a dark year for me, and hearing that this song was not only found, but it's amazing AND reunited the band members made me happy cry 😭 Thank you to Fex for making this, and especially thanks to everyone who searched for years 🩵
This should have been a hit first time round
Nevermind the story behind it, this is a great song, i love it.
OK but now that we know just about everything that there is to be known about this song I need to be able to access it in a legal format. I’d settle for Spotify, but being able to buy it on Bandcamp or preferably vinyl would be incredible.
The band's reuniting to re-record it and produce a video, that'll be available officially from them.
I would absolutely buy a physical copy in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd finally get around to buying a record player just to have it on vinyl.
Legendary moment,
Hard to put into words how I feel.
right. We now hear a version not even available back then.
And I have to give it to FEX, this song is good. The greatness would almost been have lost to history, but now we have justice.
We made it guys... we finally made it!
I am sure now, we live in the best timeline.
Posted 5 days ago and already 112,000 views! As soon as Professor of Rock's video was done, I arrived here.
An awesome thoroughly 80s song.
Didn't expect to have another Panchiko moment. Definitely added to my playlist.
Smashing work, I feel like I'm in the studio
The ending goes super hard, also amazing how much the keys add to the song.
We NEED this song to be bigger so more peaople find it 40 years and i have not heard many talk about this great Discovery.
I thought someone had made up this song and pretended it was from an 80s band. How crazy to know that the band actually existed all this time. And this song has a very mysterious vibe, it feels like something from a dream, something familiar that we've heard before.
The good old days, FEX from Germany are so awesome
I've been listening to an downloaded mp3 for listening to it in my car for YEARS. I am so incredibly excited, i can't even grasp it. I've already got tears, if it gets put on spotify i think i'll just crumb to pieces 🤧
This is how you can hear 17 years of searching my theories in several videos talking about the song, they aged very badly JAJAJAJAJAJAJ Now I'm just happy listening to the story and the song
THIS IS WHY I LOVE THE INTERNET!!! ❤❤❤
Okay, yeah, this is the best-sounding upload I've heard of it so far. Excellent work!
Imagine a parallel universe in which FEX would be the same as the Beatles and gaining the same importance as them.
Man that ending....
Somebody, some producer out there, wasn't there or dropped the ball on this group. Imagine if the right person heard this in the 80s. FEX would have been famous for all time. Fortunately, they got there in the end.
It goes so hard
Al fin mi mente y mi alma pueden descansar ,también debo agradecer que en este largo viaje conocí música fabulosa .
El fin solo es el comienzo de algo mejor .
I LOVE the part at 1:31, it sounds so nice and makes the song more varied in its tune. I always felt like the version we've been listening to was unpolished or even a demo, this one feels more complete
I just realized we’re about to have 4 versions of this song lol
The original with the fade out
The newest version with the new ending
A LIVE acoustic performance
And if they re record it, a fourth!
What the hell just happened? Lmao
Five. There's old live version from 80s
@@rewertot that’s so cool lol
I an interview it was said this one was a rehearsal and came first, then shortened in the studio recorded that was sent to ndr by their agent
Thats an awesome remaster right here! I still cant believe we found the band!
The end credits to being in your house.
Insane reference
I got this reference lol
Or more accurately, escaping from your house and fighting for your happiness to reach the real beach, happy and content.
@@dogwashthefirst597 Now I gotta know, what's the reference?
@@novocainejr.6951 There's a mod for DOOM II called myhouse.wad. it's quite infamous for being inspired by a book called house of leaves. It messes with your mind and features a lot of secrets and hidden changes that turn it from a simple house design into a masterpiece of environmental storytelling and probably the best example of liminal space done right. Near the end of the thing, there's a section where you run to a gas station in the night, and there's a car crashed into a tree. The song playing from the car's speaker is this song.
Superb. May be it now have the success it deserves.
The greatest mystery has been solved. REJOICE!!! 🎸🎉🔥
*_Happiness has been fought for..._*
Now to take it all the way to #1 on the charts.
This song should be given to 80s radio stations for air play, somehow.
this sounds really good!!, amazing remaster!!!
This will be my favorite song forever ❤
