That story was honestly touching for me as someone dealing with the hatred of college and everything. I really don't know what to do with my life, but I'm glad you have found what you want to do. Either way, I love how you ranked the 5C so high. The 5C was my first real smartphone. Because of this, it was probably my favorite phone ever. I loved using it a lot and still have it. I also liked my 6S, but I had so many issues with Apple's software at the time and it make me switch to Android. Also, my original 6S's backlight broke due to being in a pool for 10 seconds. Pretty ironic though that whenever I use a 6S now that it almost feels faster than my current Galaxy S8 and it gets current software updates while my S8 doesn't. I love my S8 though for introducing me to using random apps on my phone, and that's why I want to stick to Android at least for now even though I love the smoothness of iPhones. iOS has honestly gotten better since my 6S days. My iPad Pro shows me that.

just hearing how you talk about how much of an improvement in battery life from the XS to the 11 Pro is making me excited to upgrade this September, likely to the 12S if that's what they call it. The current battery life I have is pretty poor, if I use my phone a lot, I'll wake up at 11 and need to charge around 3 or 4, being around 20% at that time. My battery health is down to 80% and my FaceID doesn't work.

    My phones:
LG KG225 - This phone was used for a week before I found my dad's old Samsung Monte with a touch screen. The KG225 is a small flip phone with a low quality camera.
Samsung Monte S5620 - I used it for a long time, it had basic functionality but a web browser was built in, so I was happy with it. I lost it eventually and got a Nokia Lumia 520.
Nokia Lumia 520 - My first phone with an app store, running Windows Phone 8. It was good at first, then got slow, then I cracked my camera lens.
HTC Desire C - My first Android phone. The specs were lots worse than my previous Lumia 520, but Windows Phone was getting unreliable.
Alcatel Pixi 4 4"- After a long time with my Desire c, I wanted to get better battery with a decent android version. The Pixi 4 4" had Android 6.0.0 rather than Android 4.0.2. I kept it until 2019 when the screen was shattered and I got a Galaxy A10.
Samsung Galaxy A10 - This was a huge upgrade from my Pixi 4, with 32GB of storage instead of 4GB. It had Android 9.0 when Android 10 had came out, but I didn't mind as I got an update for Android 10 in June. I kept it until the end of 2020.
Samsung Galaxy A21s - This is my current phone, I only bought it on 28th December. It's the phone I'm using to type on.

According to my friends, "upgrading" from an 11 Pro to a 12 is considered downgrading, because of smaller battery, one less camera, and smaller size
But I consider this as a big win (upgrade) because it has a new chipset, a new design, a screen and a phone size that I can still consider it to be large, and it is amazing.

Once that iPhone was getting long in the tooth I also got the iPod touch 6th gen in September 2016, and that iPod still sees use today, so I really got my money’s worth out of that, even though it’s impressive performance was later bested by my 6s I got in December 2017.

Same feels we have towards the iPhone X when I first held it it was just s so surreal, the premium design, oled screen amazed me at the time, honestly wouldn’t have let it go if not for the battery..so also upgraded to the 11 Pro and truly the battery, camera & the unique midnight green color variant really made me love it. I just feel content with this phone right now & would only update if this breaks down or somethin’ or if Apple truly comes out with another groundbeaking update.

My first smartphone was a Lg L20 Frozen Edition (that is when I was a little boy), then I sold it to my cousin and got a Samsung Galaxy J7 from my dad (now he's an iPhone lover) which then broke, so I got a new Galaxy J7 from my uncle but this time a J7 Prime which I used for a long time until It "broke" (the screen that is, it still works) and now the newly formed Samsung fanatic bought an A21s and I'm using it to write this comment 🙃

    My list: (best to worst)
    1. iPhone 12 (christmas 2020), brought me back to apple and I like it a lot. Battery life is miles better than the pixel 3 and overall experience dosen't leave me missing android, especially with iOS 14 having the customization i want.
    2. Google Pixel 3 (2018), great phone, would still be using it if i hadnt gotten an iPhone 12 as a gift
    3. Huawei P8 Lite 2017, was a good phone to replace the samsung, still a budget device but i had fun using it and it survived a 7 meter fall onto concrete
    4. iPod Touch 6th gen (2015), was my first ever device, had lots of fun jailbreaking it
    5. Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 (Late 2016), was actually decent for its very low price. I used it for a while and installed custom roms on it to expand it's life
    6. LG K4 (2016), horrible and broke after 4 months
I have an iPhone 4S too that i used briefly (it was my mum's phone for a while) which i have since downgraded to iOS 6. It dosen't fit on the list but its still a great looking phone and especially after downgrading, performance isnt even that bad all these years later

You sound kinda like me with wanting to go from an ipod to a bigger screen, since I overdid it and went to a bigass android phone with a full screen, no interruptions (with the inclusion of a popup camera). I love it, but maaaan is it maybe a bit too big. It barely fits in my pocket! My next phone I'm thinking of trying to go with a foldable to get a big screen with a small size.

My personal ranking of all the smartphones I've owned (not many but oh well):
1.) Google Pixel 4 XL, Just Black 64GB
-I've had this phone for a bit over a year now (it's my current daily driver) and despite all the flack the Pixel 4 got at launch, this phone has to date been the most enjoyable phone I've used with its smooth refresh rate, great battery life, clean stock Android, and the best cameras I've used yet.
    2.) Samsung Galaxy S9, Coral Blue 64GB
-The was my first Android smartphone after only using iPhones and Apple products in general since the iPod Nano, so it was a major change. However, being the phone that got me majorly into Android, I have a soft spot for it despite its shortcomings; those being the poor battery life and rather bloated and bogged software which I heavily modified over the time I owned it to combat this (I had an AT&T model, which had major amounts of bloat on it).
    3.) iPhone 5C, Green 32GB
-This was my very first smartphone after having a crappy AT&T prepaid flip phone, an iPod Touch 4, a 1st-Gen iPad handed down from my dad, and an iPod Nano, and it was remarkably good to use at first being it was my first smartphone. The phone was built like a tank and never broke even after dropping it on concrete multiple times without a case, but it became so sluggish and poor on battery life after just two years that the experience near the end was borderline unbearable; I still have very fond memories of it though and actually still have it as a backup phone.
    4.) iPhone 6S, Space Gray 64GB
-I know many people have fond memories of the 6S, but my experience with it was just horrific after only half a year with it. The battery swelled up and nearly bursted through the rear housing about 1 year into ownership and I had to get it replaced, and the overall phone was EXTREMELY fragile from my experience; I dropped this phone one time early on and the whole screen shattered, which has yet to happen since and the whole phone became so scuffed even though it was in a case. Also, I had absolutely horrendous experiences on iOS 11 with the phone constantly getting stuck in a bootloop when restarting after freezing up, which happened frequently, and the battery life dropped off badly after iOS 11 as well, even with the battery replacement. Horrible phone and horrible experience, which is part of why I ditched iOS for Android in the end. Would I go back to iOS? Maybe one day, but I have no interest at the moment.

      All mine:
LG KG225 - This phone was a very small flip phone that could barely so anything besides call, text and play a built in basic game. Was given to me by my dad.
Samsung GT-S5620 - My first touch screen experience. Had no games so I'd find myself playing with the settings. I enjoyed watching RUclips on that 3" display for some reason though. Also given to me by my dad.
Nokia Lumia 520 - My first smartphone. While Windows Phones didn't have very much to offer, the knock off games were fun. Yet again, given to me by dad.
HTC Desire C - Probably a downgrade, but running Android 4.0.2 instead of Windows Phone 8 was an upgrade. (Even though it couldn't do much). The final phone given to me by my dad.
Alcatel Pixi 4 4034X - This phone was my first phone to run a modern version of Android (6.0). I later found our that 4GB storage wasn't enough. I had to delete photos just to have the storage to update WhatsApp. I also ended up cracking the screen very badly.
Samsung Galaxy A10 - This was my first mid-range. Got it December 2019. 4GB to 32GB was a huge upgrade for me. I used it every day. It lasted me until it ran out of storage making it very slow. I also cracked the screen. Also my first phone bought new.
Samsung Galaxy A21s - This is my current phone. Bought it December 2020, a few days and a year after the A10. The phone works very well, since I can't afford a flagship. It has a 6.5" display and 3GB of RAM. The only issue is it slows down sometimes. I'm using it to type this comment and it's a bit slow. Also bought new for £160 (Around $200).

Rating the smartphones / tablets I owned. Best to Worst.
Galaxy S20 FE (9/10) Phone I currently using. Currently the best android device i've use and fingerprint sensor is just really good.
Galaxy S4 (9/10) My first smartphone and it was media powerhouse.
Galaxy S6 (7/10) First upgrade and no sd card support marks it down a bit and also battery life was not great. Performance was really good.
Galaxy S8 (6/10) Hand me down, with a dyeing screen and battery. Also the back glass was failing off.
    Tablet Selection
Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (9/10) A great mid end tablet, with good official support and a great custom rom scene. It did everything well and screen was great for the time.
Nvidia Tegra K1 (7/10) What a great device and specs on paper that can beat most of the low to mid range devices. Too bad the final update and hardware issues due to heat and age made the experience slow and killed muiltasking.
Cruz T301 (3/10) This android tablet sucked from day one and since it had a mips cpu, app support was non existed. Device also ran slow, web browsing sucked, and video playback wasn't great. Screen was terrible.
    Honorable mention
IPod touch 2nd Generation (7/10) Got it for free, when someone left it in the rental car with no personal information, so couldn't find the owner. Great device despite being slow and used during the end of iPhone 4 era.

5 years ago my first portable device owned by me was a RCA tablet with 8 gigs. I feel kinda stupid saying this, but I kinda liked it, it did what I wanted pretty well, but my needs weren't too great. It lasted about an hour to 2 hours on a full charge at lowest brightness(on the box it said 5 hours tho), anyway, I plugged it in while using it too much and its battery went completely dead, I still remember the last minute of its life, plugged in at 100% and it hitting zero immediately when I unplugged it. Now here's probably the reas3on why I think that tablet was decent: I was stupid enough to buy another.....uy, that tablet was trash. It had 16 gigs, better than 8 gigs I guess, but It ACTUALY had only 10 gigs on it, what a ripoff, anyway, it was a rip-off, I could BARELY RUN RUclips, taking like 10 minutes to load it up, 1 hour battery max at LOWEST BRIGHTNESS POSSIBLE(the box still said 5 hour lasting battery) and it was just jeneraly not a good tablet. I still have it and it takes THE ENTIRE BETTERY LIFE, which I almost never plugged in while using by the way, I learned my lesson from the other one, anyway, as I was saying, it TAKES THE ENTIRE BATTERY LIFE OF THE DEVICE ON LOWEST BRIGHTNESS TO HOOK UP TO THE INTERNET. it will literaly take half an hour to let it get a grip and be able to boot up google play after turning the internet on on it, and would die before like 2 updates are completed.
And its like only 3 years old. Anyway, its junk, and last Christmas I wrinkly got the amazing thing im using right now, a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. Amazing. No lag when booting up apps, an entire day of battery if you put on battery saver mode, an awesome tablet for only like 180$. Anyway, was your first phone as bad as my second tablet? Wow I wrote alot. I should make a rant video...

I think I have used around 50-60 phones since 2006. If fast internet services came earlier in India and if I knew about youtube earlier, I could have been a successful youtuber. I changed phones in a matter of months and could have reviewed each and every one of them.

My very first smartphone that I remember having was the Kyocera KWC 2135 with Alltel that I remember getting shortly after my 18th birthday and highschool graduation in May of 2002. That phone I remember using until early 2006 which after that, I mainly just had a phone and internet plan with a cable company until 2010. Hit some hard times of unemployment in the early 2010s, then in 2014, I got the 1st gen Motorola Moto G with Boost Mobile. Then with that same carrier, I then got the ZTE elite in late 2015. Then got the ZTE max xl in early 2017, then got the Samsung Galaxy S8 in early 2018 and I used that until late 2018 when Hurricane Michael came. I then decided to switch to AT&T because it has much better coverage than Boost Mobile, even when I'm on a trip to Mexico. So I then had the Xiaomi Mi A2 in late 2018. Then finally in July of 2020, I got the Samsung Galaxy S10 plus which is what I use now as my primary smartphone. I know its been a little while since I was 20 years old, I turned 20 years old on May 11th, 2004. I don't think anyone had any iphones in 2004. Off and on, I tried using an iPhone as a smartphone like the 5s and the first iPhone SE and I feel like I like Android better maybe because seems more user friendly and customizable, but I guess thats just my personal preference even though I do still use a 2nd gen iPod touch from 2008 sometimes for listening to music. Well have a happy 2021 New Year.
