- From My Vault Series.........Looking down on the track leading up to Tickhole Tunnel in a 20 minute span we see a candy 46 class on an empty stock train, a down 3 car double deck interurban, a down 3 car double deck interurban cross an up 3 car double deck interurban and the down XPT.
46 class on a cattle train, nice catch!
I've seen one of these southbound block cattle trains stationary in the loop at Coffs Harbour in January 1988 without a guards van and those TEU cages. They did add diversity to the railway scene in NSW. The last one was a load of empties that had been stored in the yard at Casino in September 1990 to be scrapped at Kooragang Island Newcastle I believe. Sometimes they would mix the cattle wagons in amongst the Grafton Speedfreight train that practically no longer exists because of the loss of banana, fuel and milk traffic. The flyash/cement traffic is very light these days too.
