  • In Today's video, I'm gonna show you how to season mud pot quickly and easily at home.
    There are several methods to season the clay/mud pot at home. Otherwise, we can't use mud pot for a long time
    Here I am explaining few methods to season the mud pot easily and quickly in one day.
    The first thing is first. Turn on the gas stove (if you are using the traditional firewood stove, it is better). Fill the pot with boiled rice water and boil till it evaporates fully. Then clean the pot using normal water.
    In the second step pour some used cooking oil / fresh oil into a mud pot and boil. Boil it until you feel is going to evaporate, then clean the pot with a lean towel or tissue paper.
    Again clean the pot in running water and in the third step again fill with water and add 6 to 10 TSP of tea powder as per the size of the pot. Heat the pot until the oil is fully absorbed.
    At last, clean the mud pot with a clean towel. Your clay /mud pot is ready to be used.
    Tips:-
    Please don't clean our mud pot using soap. Because the mud pot contains so many small holes which may absorb the soap. During the next cooking, the soap will be diluted with the food.
    At last clean the pot with running water. Then we can use it at the very next moment
    I so love the aroma of the dishes while cooking in clay pots, you should definitely experience it, and am sure you will not look back.
    There is another method is available which I have not shown here. Use the whole cashew 7 to 8 numbers and heat it in the mud pot. Then the whole cashew will release its stain. We just need to pat the stain all over the pot evenly. Do this process for one day and you can use the pot from the next day. It is the easiest method ever.
    How to buy clay pots:

    Make sure it's heavy and thick.
    Turn back knock and see, you should hear a nice shriek ‘tang’ sound. The louder the sound the good it is to buy it. If you try to knock a used pot the sound will be hollow or low pitched.
    How do I know when to discard the clay pot:
    -------------------------------------
    Mild cracks will start to form at the back of the pot then it is not advisable to use it for cooking. You can use the pot for gardening.
    It may start to leak and ooze out oil at the back, then its time to discard.
    Tips to maintain the clay/mud pots
    --------------------------------------
    1. Cooking in clay pots needs patience and practice as it takes time to get heated. And even after switching off the stove, you can see it boiling which is the main specialty of clay pots.
    2.It works in gas stoves and traditional cooking with firewood, it will not work in induction
    3.It is always better to have separate clay pots for veg and non-veg.
    4.Use only rice flour or besan flour or chapati flour for cleaning
    5.Be very careful while cooking for the first time after seasoning.If you burn it then the burnt smell will retain throughout and will show in any food cooked in that. So make any curries first not any dry items to be on the safer side
    6.Do not heat an empty pot.
    7.Overheating the pot may lead to cracks so it is better to maintain low medium flame while cooking.
    8. Also after cooking do not pour water at once, the sudden change in temperature may lead to cracks. So wait for it to cool down for a while then soak in water and then wash.
    Benefits of cooking in the mud pot

    Cooking in earthen pots is a slow process and involves the use of a minimum amount of oil thereby helping in retaining food’s natural oil and moisture. Beyond being good just for food, unglazed earthen pots hold lots of promise for the environment. Hence, it is highly recommended to use earthen pots while cooking as it has multiple benefits in keeping the body healthy and fit.
