Ratslayer the GOAT. I still remember being blown away at how useful it was during my first playthrough. I love that gun, it’s probably one of my favorite sniper rifles in any game.
Fun fact: The Survivalist's Rifle's sights are still zeroed. Rather than the target line being between the two prongs, the right prong is the real target line. It's pretty cool.
@@clintbeastwood5116 I just got the survivalists rifle for the first time in my years of fnv and it's stupid accurate for having some busted ass sights lol
Oh shit, here we go. I love putting your videos as i get ready to go to work. Weird prep ritual now xD usually put your NV gun reviews in the background. You have a great voive my dude
I can’t remember the last time I didn’t make a beeline to Lucky right after starting the game. And then my next move is usually to use Lucky to retrieve the Ratslayer and just like that your guns build has an answer to most enemies through the mid-game. And of course if you rushed the lock pick to grab Lucky and take out some of the enemies on the way to Ratslayer, you can easily get close to 100 lockpicking for the Gobi Campaign scout sniper. I think I’ve managed it by level 4 before? And that was basically just getting Lucky and RS, and making my way to the snipers nest, stopping to get a lockpicking mag on the way.
40:10 I would like to add that a couple of the raiders in the wasteland, specifically Viper Gunslingers, have a chance of carrying/wielding Grenade Launchers (speaking from experience, of course). 45:03 I can't recall ever crafting the bottle cap mines, and I recall picking them up in certain places around the Mojave. They are more plentiful in FO3, for sure.
@@ReapeeRon no no, the 11mm smg, the one with such armor piercing capabilities it can shoot through the bullet proof glass of the visor in a power armor helmet
@@ReapeeRonlmfao he was referencing the line from Ricky where he shoots the Paladin in the visor with his 11mm smg, and you can pass a gun speech check to say they is no 11mm smg
If you want to get 12.7 ammo definitely do Contrera's quest instead of rating him out to Boyd. He and the Khan Armory are the best and more reliable source for this ammunition.
Long Fuse Dynamite... in the early stages of my explosives run, I got a fair amount of use out of it through picking off long distance enemies and reverse pickpocketing. Quickly ended up getting replaced by more worthwhile alternatives like Frag Grenades and various launchers as they became more available. Boone will not look at me the same after repeatedly accidentally launching him into walls with Annabelle.
The Thermic Lance and other automatic melee weapons/unarmed are actually busted with crit damage due to how crits function with them. Whenever you score a crit with them it will make following hits within a certain time period all crits. Increasing its damage output significantly and the reason why it's regarded as the best melee weapon in the game. The Smitty Special, unique to the Plasma Caster, on paper looks about on par with it. As it trades in power for being full auto. But because it's full auto that means it fires 3 shots in VATS instead of 1. Making it deal 90 damage per action vs the Plasma Caster's 65. Making it quite powerful in VATS due to its high base damage and when paired with Center of Mass its damage increases to 104. Even with its subpar crit multiplier you can still get a great chance for crits due to VATS giving a natural 5% bonus to crit. So with a full crit build you're still very likely to crit with the weapon. It just so happens to be very demanding.
@@ReapeeRon yes. Any perk/weapon interactions across different dlc are not applicable, only applied to base weapons or vice versa. For example, cowboy a base game weapon perk affects the police pistol, but and stay back doesn’t affect the sturdy caravan shotgun, however it affects all base game shotguns.
@@sillylilstella well I know for guns, they're just less accurate if you don't meet the requirements. For melee, I'd imagine they're just slower, but I'm just guessing.
The Holorifle in my opinion is #1 in energy. Combined with the Meltdown perk and hit headshots (with weapon mods as well) would make very quick succession with your targets

I'm kind of surprised the katana didn't get a top 10 placement on the melee weapons list. I remember that thing with all the mods being an absolute monster. As an aside, I have a weird attachment to Lucky. I recently started up another run of New Vegas just to play around with Lucky again lol. I don't know what it is about that gun, it just speaks to me!
Agreed. Carrying both ALSID and a suppressed upgraded .45 is a must for my guns builds. It’s just nice to have the stealth utility. And silenced sniper rifles are so overpowered it almost feels like cheating, getting closer in with the suppressed .45 is more fun imo.
@@spiraljumper74 There are mods that let you modify unique weapons, including ALSID. I use WCP, but I'm sure there are simpler ways of doing it now. ALSID is my favorite pistol. It felt wrong to not be able to add a suppressor to it.
So for the laser rifle beam splitter, does each beam have a chance to crit, and do they do the base crit damage or split it? That would be the real reason to use it, I haven't used a laser rifle in a few years, I usually use pistols or Gatling Laser for laser builds.
Each beam has its own crit chance, and each crits for full damage _individually._ You can literally triple crit with the beam splitter. Sneak crits are always triples. Have fun one-shotting Deathclaws. NOTE: extra crits do *_not_* work in V.A.T.S.
@@Idazmi7 that's insanely busted, guess I'm making a crit build using only the laser rifle. Adding Laser Commander to a crit stacked build should give near 100% chance for at least one beam to crit.
@@Idazmi7 yeah I just did the maths, a sneak attack with a modded laser rifle using max charge mfc and Better Criticals does 180 damage. The base weapon with normal ammo does 22 damage lol.
45-70 is a hard hitting bullet, so for it to be shooting from a revolver the player's hands must get so bruised and their fingers arching and sore from the force they experience.
From most favorite to least: This Machine, Gobi, Ratslayer, All-American, A Light Shining in Darkness, La Longue Carabine, AMR, Lucky, Maria, Chance. Being available early carries a lot of weight for me. I'll go 5.56 as my main with Ratslayer in early game, then pick up This Machine once I have the caps to get a decent amount of .308, and Hand Loader for JSP's. Endgame is Gobi, All-American and ALSiD.
