I think the reason mirror matchups don't get so many views is that most people wanna see serral, clem, maxpax, reynor.
@@thorwaldjohanson2526The reason why is variety, almost all fights are countered by the same unit composition. There is very little deviation in strategies, or unit variety. Vikings? Then both sides mass produce Vikings to control the air, Phoenixes? Mass produce... Corruptors for corruptors, otherwise they will go brood lords.
@@thorwaldjohanson2526 Mirror matchups has always been unpopular even back in Wings of Liberty, way before those four's time.
i have a theory that the lower viewer count on mirrored games is due to people who prefer to watch gameplay in a preferred race. and thus a mirror match covering fewer viewer's races
I can see that affecting some viewership, but then we are looking at 1/3 amount of viewers.
Personally I will watch even if it is a mirror, but mirrors tend to be boring. The counter to most units, are the exact same units. Tank? Tank. Phoenixes? Pheonix. Corruptors? Corruptors. Baneling? Banelings. The match isn't about strategy, it is about who messes up big enough first, and there is next to no chance in a comeback as the economy will be handled the same.
@@IcariumGaming then how do you respond to for example how TvTs have a whole lot of mech v bio. they are not countered by themselves. but rather it becomes a contest between competing subfactions within Terran.
@@PoeticMistakes Lowko mentioned specifically ZvZ, which is affected by this the most.
Still, I love this kind of chash every so often. In third games late game, it was clear that Reynor made big advantage by being faster, and thus getting better trades. Still a fun match!

@@PoeticMistakesWell, I was giving my opinion. If you are asking for my opinion on this, it is because most terrains who go mech, do so at the beginning of a match. Investing heavily into that infrastructure, where those who go bio, have a lot more barracks at the start. If both start with bio, they both transition to mech at roughly the same time to respond to the opponent doing the same.
Zerg, that isn't really the case as a single structure allows production across all hatcheries.
Protoss tends to be the exact same as skipping straight to air toss, you lose harassment and are forced to play defensively from the start, being beaten economically by the other protoss and giving them the ability to swiftly outgrow you.

playing Protoss probably present a motivational advantage for Reynor. It can be a way to keep it fresh and have a positive mindset on SC2

Seeing the 2nd hatch right away punished by a rush like that was so satisfying. It bothers me that 99% of pro games seem to consist of both players agreeing to expand right away.

You can't trick me into watching any mirror race match ups, because i see a lowko video i watch it. All matches have potential to be the best series.
When Reynor swapped to protoss I was really expected a cannon rushes.
Lol had to watch your cast, winter had a good cast of it too, but after 5 minutes he was like, well, guess that's the full series, video done hahaha

Hey Loko just wanted to say that I would like to see more varieties of matchups including mirror matches. I think that there might be a good percentaage you could go for, like 5-10% so that it doesn't hurt your numbers too much but satiates your more hardcore viewership with some variety. Ty and ftr I have been watching you for years now and I hope to help support you financially soon as thanks.

Wouldn't making defensive spines be the proper counter? Am i wrong there. Cancel the 2nd hatch when you see it coming and start 3 spines before the opponent gets to your base?
im curious if there is any way to counter 12 pool drone pull without having to blind counter it.

Just watched the first match up on Winter's channel and I had to see Lowko's reaction.
Lokow I want to start a petition for mirror Monday, one day a week we get a mirror match as I agree they are quite fun in a different way than "normal" games

19:30 i think a few sentries would have helped a TON in killing that base, more so than revelation / oracle.
just my thought since you could not only wall off/pinch reinforcements, but also retreating ones that came
off creep while you build a robo for immortals + observer to counter roaches and the next stage of game.
plus didn't sentries get massive, massive buffs? if only they got a .5 range increase or .75 at least.
their range is what's keeping them from being really truly useful since their range is putting them far too
close in a lot of match ups so they're really only good for having a couple to shield/stagger shield and
the others to wall as much as they can.
same argument with one oracle, since he has so many queens, one misclick is bye bye oracle just for
killing 3 tumors? i don't see reynor winning this one as his blink micro is VERY sloppy compared to what
i should be. where my previous comments state that being top of the line in one race and then wanting
to be same level of play with the other 2, you can easily tilt yourself on your off-race and have it carry
over onto your main race and send you into a spiral out... which often leads to burn outs.
as a person who enjoyed playing protoss during beta and stayed in the highest rating bracket at the time
since most of the maps were small rush distances and i hated macro games, it was perfect for the 2gate
proxy zealot rush / block ins. as well as cannon rushes and combos. but then retail release allowed for
koreans (naturally) to show people the remedy EN MASS and you'd only beat people with quite a skill gap.
still maintained highest bracket for the longest time. when they introduced plat and diamond i got those
then masters. but i've never been GM.
i've gotten to masters in all 3 races however my terran is 10000% not masters level... my protoss was
arguably able to maintain masters if i played whole season. same with zerg. tbh, i MIGHT have been
able to push into SUPER SUPER SUPER LOW GM with TONS of LUCK with zerg. i simply just don't have
enough time to play that many games with ANY race much less selecting 3 different ones or going flat
out for random... the issue with random is 50% of the opponents will auto cheese thinking you're cheesing.
so you can't reliably practice builds or new builds. in the same breath, map vetos matter a lot when it
comes to which best serve your selected race but its difficult to balance with random.
my least favorite match up is TvT (especially ppl who ONLY play terran) then TvZ, then ZvZ, then PvZ,
i enjoy ZvP to an EXTENT, its been a while and with the new terran nerfs i'll have to see. same with
protoss' nerf and buffs. anyway. on to the next comment later if i have anything to say.
Ive had this problem with the blizzard server connection a lot in the last days.
Sometimes for hours. Sometimes they don't allow my login or don't find my account or what.
Idk whats wrong though. it works sometimes

TBH that first win Reynor got was super lucky and undeserved.
Really weird Solar made such a huge blunder a minute before winning.
Glance away for five mins to let the game get started and the *entire series* has finished.
It's confusing to be barracking for Solar over Reynor.

14:49 ish - yes, i absolutely agree with ALL of that.
when you're making money at something you're not only LOVE
but you're also among the TOP of the TOP, one of the KEY aspects
is to also still find a way to have fun to avoid MANY MANY setbacks,
such as
1) the biggest one, BURN OUT - total, unadulterated and brutal BURN OUT
2) spreading yourself too thin and going on tilt that spreads across all 3 races
3) overall loss of interest in the game regardless of the income... which could
be hypothetically tied for first unless you have a REALLY GOOD grasp on your
financials, as well as potentially investments, and someone you trust to handle
taxes and IRS because... the Taxman is no joke...
I do like ZvZ from time to time =)

What if your viewers actually don't mind mirror matchups at all? Hear me out, I have an alternative theory for the lower view counts! There might be a tendency for ladder heroes to prefer watching videos that feature their own in-game race because it's easier to identify/learn. If that's true a non-mirror matchup video would attract more ladder heroes than a mirror matchup video. Simply because it would attract ladder heroes of two different races (for example a PvZ would attract both P and Z players while a ZvZ would only attract Z players).
Is there so few sc2 pro games or why are winter and u always having the same games. I really love what u do but i always saw the games already. 😢
because they both try to cast the super entertaining games. lowko posts a cast like every day, ofc there will be some overlap

Why not just avoid the spine crawlers and focus on removing drones and lings? they couldnt reach the hatchery no? It felt like the way people get beat by a cannon or planetary rush.
Except spine crawlers can move.

Dark used a variant of this against Serral during an IEM, I think 2020 or something? Rogue was still around that time. Serral's counter was to micro drones to stop Dark's drones from being able to position spine crawlers. Serral didn't make evos to block, which is the usual counter, but he individually microed drones to block the spines.

i hated the era in WoL where it was tanks/vikings. and whoever got lucky vision first won
or whoever conversely, if they lost just ONE tank first would lose.
I watch most if not all of your casts after watching the dank winter cast before them!
I tend to fall asleep watching your casts, they really help with that, soooo 100% view time on all the videos from me.

this feels like Reynor is disrespecting Dark in a ZvZ match up by starting off first game with a few lings and worker pull rush...
that's just cruel... then he does it again 2nd game.
though since its a 40 something minute video, and it says "best of 3" - i guess it goes 1-1 then someone wins 2nd game at 2-1
or you do two different match ups and he wins with this rush 2-0 which is insane.
