  • A second song from Metallica's performance in Moscow in 1991 (Coach Junior joined the channel for the first one..."Enter Sandman"). This is "Creeping Death" and Coach says it is one of the best individual song performances of all time.
Also, there is an important lesson in this one.
Video used in this reaction: • Metallica - Creeping D...

Possibly the greatest live band to step on a stage. I have saw hundreds of bands, there is nothing that compares to Metallica live. The talent is off the charts.

They didn’t do anything to James’s voice on the album version of this song; the fact is, when that album was released, he was only about 20 years old or so, and had not yet strengthened the muscles in his core that are needed to project his voice diaphragmatically without ‘screaming’. Also, his voice had-by 1991 -been loosened and deepened by years of alcohol, cocaine, and tobacco.
So the ‘effect’ on James’s voice was simply youth and innocence. And a lot of reverb. But back in ‘84, they only had very primitive pitch-shifting equipment, and if they’d used it, you’d know it-he’d sound like Alvin or one of his other rodent pals.

Its not just tabbacco and alcohol.
Most baritones have more mass vocally and depth when they reach mid 20's, you hear that in 1987 stuff, where he has that tone on stuff.
Also he changed his placement with more bottom and thickness support into the same notes.

This is how I start my Passover Seder every year, and it's Passover as I'm posting this. It's also my favorite version of this song. It's not however, the version I use because I have a 7 year old niece. There are a few edits using this song on here to the movie the Ten Commandments which I've used in the past.
Another great live song and specific version I recommend is "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (Woodstock 1994).
My favorite Metallica song (thanks to Dave Mustaine) is "The Four Horsemen". It's not Dave's version, but his riff. It's raw, it's energetic... it's the thrash that helped fuel Metallica's legacy. So many great songs!

Album version the lead singer James Hetfield was only 19 yrs old. He still hadn't developed his "adult man" voice per say. There is a RUclips video that shows his vocal progression from their 1st album and now. Yes they are still active and released a new album April 2023. 42 yrs and counting..

The look of disaproval and judgement on your wifes face is perfect; it reminds me of the condemnation i got in the 90s from my peers and teachers in the 90s when they found not i only listened to MetallicA, but listened to them exclusively starting in middle school after my best friend introduced me in 1994 in 4th grade and then bought my first secular/MetallicA album in 6th grade in 1996 when Load came out. My father was a pastor and mother a 1st grade teacher when i was growing up, they neither approved but my father was partially responsible for introducing to rock through Jimi Hendrix and The Who that were popular when he was in Vietnam. My mother was, and is actually a blameless saint that put up with my father and my two older brothers and me. Now it is my honor to care for then as they fall to cancer in their mid 70s
