    "Cowboy" Bill Watts was in charge and he wanted to recreate the success he had with Junkyard Dog in Mid-South with Ron Simmons in WCW. He was responsible for Ron's solo push all the way to world heavyweight champion.

    • @JayJackson1981

      Doom split years before Watts got there. It was Dusty's idea to push Ron.

    • @gregorylevi1826
      @gregorylevi1826 2 месяца назад

      @JayJackson1981 no it wasn't years ago. Doom was split up in 1991 and "Cowboy" Bill Watts took over in 1992. Doom was broken up because of jealousy. Flair at the time wanted A belt and Sting wasn't dropping the world title back to him. So he decided he wanted the world tag-team titles but Doom said 'no'. That was the beginning of the end for Doom. Bill watts gave Ron his push to the world title because he wanted to recreate the success he had with Junkyard Dog. When Watts was forced out that was the end of Ron's championship reign. Which is why he was champion for only around six months, could have been shorter. Dusty had nothing to do with Ron's push. That was all Cowboy.

    Looking back now, Doom was severely underrated. They had the power to match the Road Warriors and were better athletes/wrestlers. Look at old Mid-South, Reed could do a promo. I think with a better push, they could’ve been top 5-10 all time.

    Wrestling is a white guys sport. I mean no offense by saying that but they weren't going to let the belts be with Doom for long. Neither Flair or Windham needed to be tag champions. Especially Flair. Besides recent yrs with WWE pushing The Bloodline through Covid all, well I'll say most minority championship runs are always brief. Look how fast they took it off of Kofi. Now just imagine how a Black or other minority wrestler in the 80s and 90s was treated. Especially down here in the South on NWA/WCW.

    If I recall, Ron Simmons never really heeled it up -- not in the ring and not in promos. While in Doom he was kind of a tweener, who didn't cheat much himself but who didn't exactly object to his partner winning the match by cheating. This was the same strategy for Harlem Heat.

    Doom was amazing, they looked alike body wise they were huge built but at the same time were not identical. They were why I stopped and saw WCW for the first time they were big, fast and I think they were pulled apart too soon. It was not their skin color, it was their size, speed and both power houses. Just picture two Ron Simmons or if you knew who Butch Reed was two Butch Reeds.

    Teddy's right. Doom was great even when Woman was their manager. Should have stayed a team longer and their breakup feud should have been longer too. It just seemed one day they decided they wanted Ron as a solo babyface and moved him past Butch and Teddy as fast as they could.

    They should have lost the maskes as soon as they debuted and just been themselves.
    It did'nt make any sense for them to be these mysterious mercenary types and for Jim Ross to continually talk up their past athletic accomplishments.
    They should have been Heels who were in the right, Going after the Stieners and having the credentials they did that fued writes itself.
    WCW was too scared to really play up the racial undertones but Reed and Simmons could have been almost sympathetic tweeners in alot of towns.
    Missed opportunity.
