Hi everyone, many of you have asked for food videos and there could not be a better place to talk bc about food than Istanbul. Turkish food is so yummy! Wishing you all a great week ahead and happy holidays for those who are celebrating 👍
Thank you, so much Janus, Hands down one of the BEST food videos I have seen, so informative ,low noise. To the point. I loved all the Turkish names of the food and the place we could best get them. Including the small snack s. Wish more people could make videos like this. Loved it , and now I m hungry 😋😋😋🤗
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate. I am planning to post more food videos on my channel going forward. Feel free to also check out my video on Hungarian food. really yummy too :)
@@januslog Thank you so much,I will definitely do that, strange you should say that. Because I am planning to migrate to Hungary. But there are no coincidences, my friend 🌹🌷🤗
The cooks who worked for the sultan at the palace were ordered not to serve a meal twice. So they have to invent every day new dishes. And this for almost 600 years of Ottoman Empire. This is why our cuisine is so diversified since Turkey (former Ottoman Empire) was always the melting pot of cultures, the the silk road went through, the bridge from East to West and North and South. What can we expect? Around 10k of dishes and 10k deserts afaik.
Wow! Such a great culinary tour of Istanbul. I get very hungry watching this video. I love Turkish food. I feel very comfortable with it because of halal labelling, especially when I was in Europe. I've to try all, looks really yummy and healthy. So far I only tried Dürüm, Kebab and Baklava:) The ice cream is sooo cool 😅 How about the prices? Thank you Janus. Stay safe in US. Salam from Indonesia ☺️
Thank you Dina, the prices are all super affordable, especially due to the huge inflation of the Turkish Lira right now. I decided to not put prices as they would be half of what I put in a few weeks. It’s very volatile right now. But none of the dishes I presented will break a bank 👍😅
Hi, I'm very happy that you shared this video with us🥰. Really, everywhere in Istanbul is full of delicious street food and sweets😋. I'm having a great time.😍😉
So much wonderful food to try - I can't wait to go back! Thanks for sharing it all with us. I remember a wonderful restaurant near the main market where we sat on a mezzanine floor with a balcony and watched the food being winched up from the kitchen on the ground floor. I know it is not from Istanbul per se, but I love Iskender kebab - meat and crispy bread covered with tomato sauce and yoghurt.
Those are great choices. The bread was actually fresh and not dry. If at all it was maybe a bit too chewy for me but I’m very picky when it comes to bread 😅
@@januslog i also like 10 , looks yummy. kind of like KFC/McDonald's chicken wraps. :) and yes, watched again , bread looks very fresh. but pizza base looks so so. haha and it is not round. :)
What are the prices like? Can anyone give any examples for a typical breakfast/lunch/dinner or coffee? I'd really appreciate it. Excellent video by the way, thanks a lot!
Thank you Nejra, giving accurate prices is tricky with the devaluation of the Lira and the inflation. But I spent an average of $4-5 for street food and $8-15 for restaurant food. Generally, I found the prices very affordable. For $8-10 you can have a very nice breakfast.
Thank you Bo. You are right, this is more of a food video and less of a walking tour. For Istanbul sounds, please check out my Istanbul walking tours 😊
We went to Ortakoy to have kompir back in 2016. The walls were covered with cockroaches and the owners kept telling us they are harmless winter bugs 🤢. my advice don’t go to any random place in Istanbul. Btw, I was born in Istanbul and should’ve known better.
@@januslog I was at air space museum in Washington DC. I saw Breitling Orbiter 3 nacelle there: I touched it. It was the last endeavor of the XX century: travel by balloon around the world, non stop !!! I saw the documentary on discovery channel. And when o touched it, I dreamed awake for 3 days !!!
Today it's a big day: the launch date will be confirmed or infirmed. Of James Webb space telescope: 10 years in the making and 10,000,000,000 cost. Launch is supposed to be on Dec 24.
@@januslog For now launch is scheduled on Dec 24 at 7:20am EST time. I will want to watch it live. Adjusted with inflation, it looks more like 10.8 billion cost. Without help from Gesa and Canadian Space Agency. Which are under 1 billion, though.
@@januslog A mirror of beryllium which is much better than aluminum and much harder to mine: it is only 0.25% in the ore. 4 tons of ore for 1 pound of beryllium. And then it's covered in a layer of gold, very thin. But it's a 4 story high.
