Honestly, I do not appreciate old looking metal. Hmmm. Blue! Lapis Lazuli Blue! Holy Carp! This does not look old. And I am hooked. Thank you. Blessings now.
So the fumes from ammonia is not hurting you, making you breath a little harder? And what about gloves . I spent hours trying to clean a tray from this , ☺️
Honestly, I've tried name brands and non name brands, just use a clear spray. I prefer matte but depending on what your goal is for your pieces, you may want to use a gloss.
I seem to ruin each craft brush with ProtectaClear. Should I dip them in paint thinner? Or not use a brush? Suggestions for frequent small jewelry components /pieces
Does this deform thin metal like a lighter shell? Should something like wax be placed in the hinge so it won’t weaken or bend? Or does it not hurt it? Thanks.
I have some copper knife handles I want to age. Would the finish wear off in my pocket or on my hands or does it form a really good bond with the copper?
I can't honestly answer this question as I've never put something I've patina'd in my pocket. You could try the technique and carry it around with you as a test to see what happens. Would be nice if you came back to let us know. Seems someone else is wondering the same thing. Thank you for watching!
You might also like to try laying your copper pieces on a bed of crushed salt n vinegar crisps, with an other layer of crushed crisps on top - you can get amazing patterns of patina that way.
Recycled Parts 4 Art yes I do. The fat in the crisp fragments adheres to the metal and that's what helps create the interesting patterns in the patina. Fun eh?
That's cool. I like the way you curled the pieces. The stamp looks perfect on it. Will the same technique work on aluminum? I don't think I have any copper.
I have a bunch of solid brass hardware I am trying to darken... I keep getting pink. Ugh. After 2 days. Still pink. Im thinking amonia is what I need. No other recipes mentioned it. So thank you. And I will try again. Your way. :)
@@MildaMade sorry for the delayed response, I didnt get the chemical result I wanted. Hi Susana, I would dump it unless you plan on using it again the next day. You can dump it outside or in the house, people use it for cleaning so I don't think that would be a problem. 💚
Amazing thank you! Beautiful blue...love the finished art...how fun! I did watch through to the end...that is a thing with me. Could you please let me know what fixative you used?
Hi Shannon, I use, when I use it, I don't always.... Krylon, Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating in a spray can for a Gloss finish OR if you prefer a matte finish, use the matte. You can get it at Home Depot or a store like that. Thanks for watching to the end!
Hi! Thanks for the video; it's great. Is there a way to make it look more or less transparent? Also, is it ok to finish the piece with polish, after this patina? Thanks again!
Great information presented in the most entertaining way. Lauged out loud more than one time. Love the commentary and the philosophy along the way. Recognize the Raisin Man- bet you got that from Hardee's sometime in the early 80's? Thank you for making this available!
Hi, Well from what I have read rust never really stops rusting. You can spray it with a varnish to slow it down though. I love the way it looks and don't worry about it too much. If you are working on something where it really matters, give it a few coats of spray varnish. Thanks for watching!

Hi there! I have a brass watch bazel do you think this work?
Beautiful! I am definitely going to try that.
I see in the title it works on copper and brass. Will it work on other metals such as wrought
iron?
You could try it, I honestly never did so I can say for sure. 💜
OMG!!!!! This is gorgous!

@JeriBellini can you do anything with it after this process or should you make your piece ready to go then do this as the last step?

Does this deform thin metal like a lighter shell? Should something like wax be placed in the hinge so it won’t weaken or bend? Or does it not hurt it? Thanks.
You are deforming the metal but if you put a sealer over it when you're done, it should be fine and won't keep oxidizing.
I have some copper knife handles I want to age. Would the finish wear off in my pocket or on my hands or does it form a really good bond with the copper?

Thanks for the info, I just now found your video.
What type & brand of fixative do you use or recommend?
Any kind of spray varnish will do it.
My girlfriend found me an old brass tea pot for my new house. I’m going to try this
Sounds great!
If you put a vinyl sticker on it first, and remove it after, will the part under the sticker stay shiny?
Good question, I never tried it!
How can i keep that color mrs , any thing tip that i can keep that color for long time ? Big thank
spray it with varnish
Thanks for the demo. Do you know if this would work the same or similarly for brass? Thanks!
Try it!! You never know and it's so easy.
Beautiful!, how long do I need to leave it with the recent patina is is a weathervane that’s going to be outdoors? Thank you.
Sorry I missed your question. Overnight usually works but watch it. A weathervane sounds fun!
What kind of fixative would you recommend? Will it slow down or stop the proces?? I will try to use this for a stopmotion set :D
any spray varnish will work and yes, it will stop the process.
that was so cool Jeri - never seen this done before - thanks for showing this to us - we love old looking things!!!!
So glad you enjoyed it Janet! Thanks for watching!
Yes please do more Metal work.
Jennifer, I LOVE working with metal! thanks so much for watching!
Nice! How do you get brass to get a greenish peacock coloration?
Try this...
Mix 4 ounces hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 ounce of white vinegar, and 1/2 tablespoon salt. Brush it on and leave it for awhile.
Love the way you are passionate about it! Keep up the great work!
Hi Tim, thanks for noticing how much I love my recycled art and sharing! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Brass is a copper alloy. Copper/Brass/Bronze....if something works on one it almost always works on all 3. (Like Ferric Chloride will etch all 3.)

Any Spray varnish in a can.

Hi! Thank you for such great video. My concern is about safety. Did you use pure amonia and worked indoor? Is that safe enough?
I'm using a cap full of ammonia and work next to a window.
It’s poisonous. The beautiful blue and green, Encapsulate it if you love it. Breathing it is dangerous.
Awesome
Thank you! Awesomeness back at you for taking the time to leave me a comment! ❤️

does it do same color on brass thank you

what happens if you put the cooper directly into the ammonia?

Does this do the same with brass??? I see you mention brass in the title, but don't talk about it.
Try this (and I have fooled around with brass and had success)
