more likly to me is that it would reach the cocoon stage and be frozen. stuck in an eternal war of the outside trying to break in and the inside trying to break out. and that assumes that the thing is fed since unlike shy guy its not anomalous just dangerous, so it would be turned into the new containment procedure for shy guy as the SCP foundation feeds the thing to keep it alive in this war it will never win
Now expose The Thing to 682. The key factor about 682 is the written rule of escaping death. 682 can never die no matter the circumstances. The Thing would never succeed in consuming 682 given the written rule.
682 is even stronger than that. 682 will just adapt to all what the thing will do instatanious. The stronger the force 682 has to overcome, the stronger itself will become.
I would imagine 682 would use the Thing's biology against it, creating a system that would re-copy over the Thing's cells, effectively neutralizing it.
What if the Thing encounters SCPs 610, 016, 001, 4966, 002, 682, 939, 658, as well as other monsters and some people? What if the Thing encounters a fully grown Xenomorph, or a Predator, Death Angel, or White Spike? I feel like I’m giving way too many ideas here, but I mean come on, it’s an alien parasite that can replicate even the memories of whatever it eats. Edit: Who knows what will happen next? Will it encounter a full grown accurate T. Rex? Will it encounter a Xenomorph T. Rex? What about a Sharktopus? How about the bosses from Dave The Diver? I’m giving way too many ideas and I apologize if this is overwhelming.
Which 001 do you refer to? If it's Gate Guardian there's no way the Thing has a chance. If it's the Prototype then yeah I see the Thing winning. As for 610 I don't see the Thing having much effect. It would assimilate a good chunk and then be immediately assimilated back by the Flesh That Hates. Why? Because it power comes from a goddess.
@@dineez627 I think either Prototype or When Day Breaks. I too feel like the Thing has a good chance with the Prototype, it could make a sticky slime to restrict the Prototype’s movements, and do what it did to Shy Guy. As for “When Day Breaks”, it might not have a completely good chance but a chance nonetheless, it could hide while the Sun is out and absorb the living mounds of human flesh at night. And for 610? You make a good point, but I think it might find a way. Who knows? Maybe the 2 will end up fusing and becoming more dangerous than before.

Scp 096 runs up to the thing and has its soft tissue promptly assimilated. However, the things assimilation process is unable to absorb the entities indistuctible skeleton. The flood is like the thing in a lot of ways, just more aggressive and without quite as good shapeshifting, in return for being able to spread way faster. It also tends to get much more intelligent, to the point it can even mess with the laws of physics when it gets bad enough.
Would it not end up just assimilating SCP-096? The real question is would Thing-096 keep the supernatural properties of always reaching the target, or would it just be the Thing in the shape of 096?
The Thing is only capable of absorbing and mimicking biomass from actual living creatures, not supernatural powers and abilities that have been derived from non-biological means. The Thing would be incapable of absorbing SCP-096. The use of acid to weaken SCP-096 would only work if you take the non-SCP Foundation Lore story of its death as canon. In other words, SCP-173 never actually broke 096's neck and acid was never actually used on his bones in actual SCP lore. Most of the stuff about battles and such are fandom stuff made by people that think things would happen a certain way just because. Going by the actual lore, SCP-096's bones are indestructible and he regenerates from mortal injuries, even continuing to function beyond what would be perceived as death. Then we have what would happen to The Thing. The Thing might absorb the scientist, which would cause the version of The Thing that mimicked the scientist to retain the scientists memories. Either the main mass would not have those memories, allowing the copied scientist to get destroyed by SCP-096, or it would add the body and memories to itself, which would provide the scientist's memories, placing The Thing in potential danger if what SCP-096 does to its victims would destroy all of The Things cells. Since SCP-096 is often stated to eat those it terminates, it may have the means, by digesting it, of destroying The Thing. For the sake of fun, we could say that the two could not destroy one another literally since the The Thing is about survival and may be able to remove memories, much as it removes parts of itself. Bottom line is that The Thing could likely do something to turn SCP-096 off and make him docile, but neither would be able to destroy the other functionally.
@deathshadow396 What I'm saying is he sought out being killed by the thing to escape scp 096. That was just foolish. It would make more sense if the thing somehow escaped and killed him. And then that's how it learns of SCP 096.

The Thing was initially critically panned on release, partly due to releasing around the same time as E.T and partly due to critics thinking it was nothing more than a shlocky gore-fest. Its cult classic status was something that it gained over time as people reevaluated it throughout the years.

Correct
In the lore it has been neutralized, but I think SCP-818 vs the Thing would have been interresting.
Actually, in another universe, scp-173 snaps 096s neck, then some acid destroys his body. He could actually assimilate the body of 096, and thus win.
