Freddie could hold an audience in the palm of his hand. He could "control" them so so well at a show. He was the ultimate showman. We will never see anyone like him ever again.

Anytime you do a reaction to Queen or Freddie I will watch. No question. Amazing band that is truly a legacy. Just a side note .... most of that crowd were not solely Queen fans as the tickets were sold before Queen were even on the list!!
But Queen took the night. All those performances have faded into history, but this one performance, 35 years later still makes my jaw drop the way it did in July 1985.
The control that Freddie has over the crowd was amazing, I have never seen anyone else who could control a crowd the way he did, he is sorely missed
For Brian May it's not 80s hair, that's how he always looks haha. It's just white now 😄 You have to watch the whole Live Aid set. But yeah, this performance is amazing. Radio Ga Ga live always makes me emotional. Who knew a nostalgic love song about the radio could do that 🤷🏻♀️
I remember that a lot of Live-Aid was "memorably unmemorable." Quite a few acts really phoned it in.
@@vapoet Well when I said the whole Live Aid set I meant Queen's lol. I wasn't suggesting that he should watch the whole day haha. I think David Bowie did a great job and same with U2 which I thknk were the 2nd best. I haven't seen them all though.

Queen did not use a synthesizer at Live Aid. Those sounds you hear are from Brian May and his Red Special guitar plugged into the Deacy amp (engineered & built by Bassist John Deacon) and treble booster.
Queen did use synthesizer at Live Aid. Spike Edney is a part of Queen since 1984, he plays the synths, the vocoder, the piano, the rythm guitar and does backing vocals at all Queen related things since 1984.

EPIC. Nothing will ever compare to a performance like this one. Live vocals, live band and a live crowd (no phones). Just wow! Not too sure who thumbs down this video but they are mad!

Wembly Stadium in England is always amazing to watch with the massive crowds . There is another video with george micheal at wembly singing a Queen hit SOMEBODY TO LOVE ..........unforgetable and mindblowing .

This was Live Aid, as you know. A concert with squillions of musicians, not just Queen fans, yet the 73 thousand strong crowd ALL knew the "actions" to this song (from the official video). In fact, people didn't even know Queen were going to be participating beforehand! That's how amazing Queen were. Everybody loved them and knew their songs so well. Great reaction to a once-in-a-lifetime event and the band who stole the entire show.
Live Aid 1985, "Under Pressure" live at Wembley 1986, and of course Bohemian Rhapsody. QUEEN s MAGIC on stage live.....You have to see that. :)
Please look up 'Green Day Crowd Singing Bohemian Rhapsody' - there are two versions: one from the stage and one from the crowd itself (even better). Queen is rocking the house without being there!

God no, no synthesizers! Only vocals from all 4, drums, lead guitar and bass guitar, with Freddie's piano. NO SYNTHESIZERS!
They also have Spike Edney playing guitar and keyboards but you don't normally get to see him clearly on stage. Roger Deacon did not supply any audible vocals.

Legend !!! This is beyond Iconic... The entire set was incredible.. You should watch the comparrisson viceo of the entire set from the actual Live Aid performance and the re created scene for Bohemian Rhapsody was simply masterful. It was spot on detail wise..

The best part is that those are not Queen fans. Live Aid united fans of all previous bands that performed, like Paul McCartney, Marillion, Status Quo. That makes it more impressive
resireg that’s a great point, it was not a Queen concert. But in 1985 Queen was more famous in Britain than anyone except maybe Diana. Ironic too since they were very close, she and Freddy.

Queen is and was amazing and my favorite band of all time from Great Britain. For academics with completely totally different personalities but they have this amazing chemistry and friendship but yet like Stanley even by the mid-to-late seventies. The band was complete in 1971 once John Deacon joined the band, but Freddie Mercury Roger Taylor and Brian May had known each other since about 1967 or 1968. the lead guitarist Brian was a doctorate in astrophysics and the drummer was a biology major that studied Dentistry. Roger never finished dental school because the band was touring too much and it's not like he really needed the money anyway after 1975; and the band split from Trident records & contracted w/John Reed as their manager for 2 years and released " Night at the Opera". The bass player, John Deacon, had a masters in electronic engineering and actually created this amplifier that they call the Deaky amp. that amplifier could make Brian May's guitar sound like an orchestra or almost anything they wanted it to sound like. After John Reeves 2 years were up managing the band in 1977, John Deacon was the business brains behind the band and handled all of the financial matters and the band's money. The band managed themselves to save a lot of money and yet they still had Jim Beach as their attorney. Jim negotiated for them to go tour in South America back around the time of the revolution and the band were able to go to Brazil and Venezuela. Sadly John retired from music in 1997 after Freddie Mercury died because he did not see the band going on at all without Fred and Freddie Mercury was his mentor. John was only 19 when he was accepted into the band and he was young but just a damned good bass player and Freddie Mercury was 25 so he helped John a lot with his writing skills. John Deacon was the Dark Horse of the band because even though he was the quietest one, he could write a song and it would go straight to the top of the charts like " another one bites the dust". at first the band weren't even contemplating putting that song on their 1980 album, The Game". Michael Jackson heard another one bites the dust and told the band to release it because it would be a hit in America as a single. Roger told Michael they weren't even sure they were going to put it on the album. that song wasn't like most of Queens Music because it was a funky song but not really rock and roll. it was on the album and released the summer of 1980 and wen quadruple Platinum!!

I've read that Queen was a last minute booking. Queen was certainly past their prime and they proved that they still had it. Big time!
The clapping/arms gesture was from their Orwellian-style music video. This was the 1st time a concert crowd did the "choreography" from an MTV video. I watched this live and was gobsmacked by this moment. Look at the camera guys up front all turning around to see. It was incredible to see the whole unified crowd. They rocked. Wish you all were there.

Performing live was a gift that Freddie Mercury had and he was able to do it better than anyone else.
He loved performing, he loved posing and he took great care of himself and kept fit for he was very energetic on stage.
Deffo one of my top 5 Queen songs and always love Derek's reactions, don't always agree, but that's music.

Freddie was MAGNIFICENT! Yes...that is the word. His presence, his voice, his strut, even his arm movements! There will never be another like him. I could literally never tire of watching him. Also......those jeans with that white shirt and arm band ......*sigh* :)

In UK, we loved him. No one cared about his sexuality. We just loved the creative talent the 80s gave us. We still don't care, just glad we saw such great bands, Communards, Soft Cell, Elton John, Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Erasure etc. Our TV presenters, Larry Grayson, Dale Winton, Paul O Grady, Alan Carr, Graham Norton, Julian Clary and many more present top shows that we love. To be honest, we just love them all. 80s bought acceptance to us all, Love your reactions.
What’s most impressive is that those fans weren’t there to see queen specifically.. I think most had already bought their tickets, when Queen was added to the concert as a late addition.. they originally planned to be part of live aid.

Yes, GaGa name is an homage to Queen. I was blessed to see this live through Mtv back in the day. I remember watching the music video too. I was mesmerized and my goodness it was sooooo catchy. loo

90,000 people I think, Dereck, I watched live aged 13 gulp (a while ago lol). Queen were the best on the show, absolutely amazing. The bands/performers were fantastic, U2, George Michael etc and the concert was going on simultaneously in Philadelphia with Madonna, Simple Minds to name but a few. What a day!

July 13, 1985 Live Aid concert: over 100,000 people in London, and another 100,000 plus people in Philadelphia. During the live simulcast, both audiences were participating in this. Imagine almost a quarter million people clapping in unison.

First satellite worldwide concert ever, heard by billions of people... I remember that day vividly... we were visited by family, my nephews too, and he was a great Prince fan... The second part was in Philadelphia, Prince was there...
Now imagine sitting in your living room watching this AND doing the hand clapping along with the crowd in Wembley and RFK stadium. THAT'S powerful!

You’ve now seen some of their best live performances. Can I recommend two more, “save me” Montreal 1981 for Freddie’s softer voice or “who wants to live forever” Wembley 86 for his more mature voice. Both breathtaking in different ways.

Out of the 2 simultaneous Live Aid concerts,the Wembley one is undoubtedly the superior because of Queen. But Madonna's act at the Philadelphia's concert is also very close up there too. Check out her Into the Groove at Live Aid.
Check out the video. It's a whole different experience with scenes from "Metropolis" that suit the song's retro-modern feel very well. The famous clapping takes on a a slightly sinister 1984 vibe.

Queen was not popular during this time in America, their other song from the same album as Radio Gaga, I Want To Break Free, had a video of them dressed in drag, and it was banned by MTV. Before I Want To Break Free, their previous video for the song Body Language was also banned by MTV for being to provocative. There were also other problems such as their label being involved in a payola scandal, they struggled to secure airplay for Queen with these issues, so they just lost popularity in America. But Queen always remained popular over the rest of the world. They are the best selling artist of all time in Europe, and over the 4th best selling artist of all time. The whole Live Aid performance is great, it has been chosen as the best broadcasted live performance of all time. The clapping comes from the video clip of the song, the amazing thing is that Queen confirmed at the last minute and they were not even anounced for the show, still, the audience responded showing how popular Queen was.
There were 78K people in the old wembley stadium. There was also a stadium in the USA doing the same thing and 1.8 billion world wide saw it on tv. They were raising money for the famine victims in Ethiopia and all acts were performing for free. Queen were the best and this is acknowledged to be the best live rock performance ever.

The people who you are seeing inside the stadium there at Wembley, was only really about half the crowd because remember there was the other stadium in Philadelphia that was staging the other half of the Live Aid concert and the pictures from Wembley were getting beamed directly to Philadelphia as well as to about 2 billion people watching on TV around the world.

The only one that comes close to Freddies stage presence was M.J. BUT...in my opinion and that's all it is, Freddie was just a bit better because Freddie interacted more with the fans, he and the band always made time for the fans to sing what Frreddie sang, or take on the chorus portion of song themselves while Freddie directed them, clap with him, do vocal warm ups with him (which happened right after Radio Gaga at this concert and is amazing) where M.J. interacted yes, but did more dancing for the fans to watch. Don't get me wrong. M.J. was amazing and love him to no end, just as Freddie was a vocal God, M.J. was a dance God, no one could come close to him in that arena, not even Freddie....lol. Great reaction!

Queen was on for 20 minutes and it genuinely changed lives ... live aid was to raise money for starving Africans and when Queen came on the money started to flood in ... then of course the fact it still is considered as best ever. 70, 000 ppl in Wimbley and another stadium full in Phila at the same time participating. And Queen had an advantage over the other acts because they were experienced in performing for large crowds. Queen alone sold out Wimbley like 5 times. And Queen had a lot of interactive songs. He was also already sick and every other act there kind of half assed it and regretted that because of their performance.

I read that they got the idea for the song from the drummer Roger Taylor’s baby. The story I read said Rogers baby said radio gaga and the rest is history.
Also if it hasn’t been mentioned before there were between 75,000 to 90,000 people there that day.

I grew up listening to every genre of music except for classical and country. I have more albums, cassettes, cd's and downloads of different much different music. Rock Your Baby by George McCray, the original I Didn't Mean to Turn You On by Cherelle (not the Robert Palmer verson), Madonna, and so many other artists. Watching you react a song is like watching a kid opening Christmas girls. Thank you for reacting to and enjoying music from the past. If it weren't for these guys our music would be totally different today. Thank you JESUS I grew up in the 70's and 80's hearing some of the most revolutionary music in the. world. It shaped who we are today. ❤
