I met Luciano Pavarotti when he stayed at The Vista hotel, Pittsburgh, when I had a weekly suite there for work. They wanted to know who was staying next door. He walked down the hall wearing his little scarf around his throat and patted my hand when introduced- didn't shake. He spoke very very softly - for someone who sang so LOUD. I got to hear his warm-ups for 3 days and they invited me to the rehearsal the day of the performance. Flawless. Immaculately enunciated. In rehearsal, he still was engaged with his heart, not just his voice. He controls the orchestra. You can see him instructing a Masterclass here on youTube specifically coaching other singers on interpretation, feeling, emotion AND performance technique such as covered sound.

Thank you for this. From the age of 6 to 11, I attended a small Catholic school. We began each day with the Latin Mass. Our small school choir sang the entire mass in Latin, flawlessly. Ave Maria was a staple, and to this day I cannot listen to it without crying. That experience opened my heart and mind to the Divine, to music, to art, and to the love of Latin languages. I thank God I had that experience.
My parents both passed away in November and December of 2023. My dad was Sicilian and we always listened to Italian music. He loved Pavarotti and Mom loved Andrea Bocelli. Mom knew they were both dying and she would play "Time to say goodbye" over and over again. It tears me up to listen to it now.

My late mother hosted members of the youth choir from Italy, of which Luciano was a member, during his first foray into singing outside his home region. It was the Llangollen International Music Festival in Wales in 1955 and he was 19 (I was five). He returned to the Festival 40 yrs later, in 1995, when he was the star of this week-long event, the biggest and oldest of its kind in the world.

I got goose bumps the first time I listened to him do Nessun Dorma. I now possess 22 DVD's and one of them is this Three Tenors Tour in LA. In the audience is Arnold Schwasener, Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Highest selling classical tour ever done.

The Queen of Soul herself, Miss Aretha Franklin, actually stepped in for Pavarotti at the '98 Grammys bc he had a major sore throat and couldn't perform. She brought the damn house down!! ❤❤
I have an album of his called O Sole Mio: Favorite Neapolitan Songs. I call it Sing Along with Lucianoi! These are all traditional songs from the area of Naples, Italy (hence Neapolitan). I play it a full volume and sing my heart out! I suck, but you can't hear me, and the songs just make me happy! The vinyl album came with the lyrics to all the songs in both Italian, and the English translation. Fun fact: Elvis used the melodies of at least two songs on this album for a couple of his biggest hits. One was O Sole Mio (My Sunshine) which he used for It's Now or Never, and the other was Torna a Surriento (Return to Sorrento) for Surrender. When I was learning to play guitar my teacher had me play an old folk song called Aura Lee. I told him it sounded very familiar. He said it should; Elvis used the melody for Love Me Tender. I could never play the ending right because I'd play the last couple of Elvis notes instead of what was written on the score.
Props, BP, for the 'open mind'. As a kid, I couldn't stand opera. Now older, it is still not something I listen to, but I am in awe of the talent. I can appreciate any of the greats, Pavarotti, Carruso, Sills, etc., for the gift of such a vocal instrument. You have expanded your horizons at an earlier age than I did. I applaud you for that. Yes, this is the Hail Mary. It is part of saying the rosary. I say a rosary to my Mom in heaven. Very special to my faith, as The Blessed Mother of Jesus. My sister walked down the aisle at her wedding to Ava Maria. You should hear Chris Cornell sing this.

Happy blessings to you Pegasus. Sending much love to you and yours for happiness and health. ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏. In answer to your question the last 2 years of his life he was in extreme pain and weakness from the cancer. If the TVs ever get a good shot at it if you look you'll see that he has to sit down in a chair during this time. But the man❤❤❤ love to sing and bring joy to people through his singing. I noticed that you took note of the expressions on his face when he would end the song. The reason for this is extremely humble man could ( believe it or not ) NEVER BELIEVE that his singing was ever any good until the audience let him know at the end of each song that he did. That was always his look of thank goodness I did it right and they actually enjoyed my singing. 😢😢😢 He was just really and truly that humble. He just wanted to make sure that he gave each audience as much joy to them as they gave joy to him. It's always so hard to believe that somebody that is such a great voice excellent voice, and I really don't know any words to describe how heavenly his voice was. But he never was that sure of himself until the audience let him know he had done it right. When you figure there's so many of the singers Opera and otherwise who will get that kind of an attitude of I'm better than everybody else. Yet you can have somebody like Pavarotti that had the most perfect heavenly voice, but to his mind he wasn't sure if he got it right until the audience let him know. Like I said such a humble sweet generous person with the gift of the voice of angels that God gave him. WOW !! WOW !!!! Thank you God for letting us hear such a heavenly voice, even though for most of us it was just a short time. 🙏🙏🙏😢😢😢❤️❤️❤️❤️
Even as an agnostic/atheist, this is beautiful. I always be grateful to my grandfather who introduced me to classical music at a young age - I still listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons every now and then, my favourite as a child.
Thank you. One of my mother's favorites. You might want to give a listen to Leontyne Price, a historic African American operatic soprano with an angelic voice. She was famous for playing the title role in the opera "Aida" (for once, not an Italian woman in blackface). Her signature aria was "O patria mia" (Oh my homeland), from "Aida." The best option is to watch her in her sing this in her last performance of the opera with the New York Metropolitan Opera on January 3, 1985.
Not to mention with Tracy Chapman -- so understated and humble, but Pavarotti soars her music with her. ruclips.net/video/kxcC2KXtufs/видео.htmlsi=pC8qhatbxAKwWr0J
If you love music you will love classical music and opera. You may not always appreciate it as a youngster but hopefully once someone gives it a chance they only have beauty ahead of them. It doesn’t mean you still don’t enjoy all other genres of music - they are all special in their own way. Pavarotti is my favorite modern tenor after 1960. His tone is so warm and smooth and there is just something about his voice that is so special. He’s surely the most famous modern tenor because of his concerts, and you could certainly credit him with almost single handedly broadening opera’s appeal to the world, but there are many amazing opera singers out there performing today. My favorite all time tenor is Mario Lanza who died in 1959. He is the most passionate singer I have ever heard and his success in the movies made most every day people appreciate opera for the first time. This was in the late 1950’s. Tragically he died at 38. Many people have different opinions but Jussi Bjorling is greatly admired and was considered the successor to Caruso by Caruso’s family. I have heard many experts claim he was the best ever, but really does it matter? A beautiful voice is a beautiful voice. He died in 1960 but we are so lucky to have recordings of all these people from the early 1900’s on. And this is just a few of the tenors! If only we had a Time Machine to go back earlier. Opera singers are a different beast. They can literally knock you over with the power of their voice as they are trained totally differently than any other kind of singer and must be able to project their voice without microphones, and sing over two hours straight. The process is fascinating and takes a lifetime of dedication. The best opera singers get better with age because of the constant training and the extended range and flexibility one can get only after decades of practice. Luciano was probably at the height of his powers in the 1980’s when he was in his fifties. I hope you keep listening to these beautiful arias. If you ever want to give ladies a try one of my favorite soprano duets is The Flower Duet from the opera Lakme by composer Leo Delibes. I am sure you have heard it sampled in commercials as it is one of the most famous duets ever. Any rendition with Dame Joan Sutherland is wonderful. P.S. One of the most admired opera clips on RUclips, with over 60 million views on one channel alone is Diana Damrau singing The Queen of the Night aria from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. If you want an unbelievable soprano aria like nothing you’ve ever heard before, that’s the one.
So beautiful. You might like Pavarotti performing "It's a Man's World" live with James Brown. The crowd goes wild! Thank you so much for this reaction.
8:30. I have a Christmas album/cassette tape that has Luciano Pavarotti singing with the Vienna Boys Choir. I fell asleep listening to that cassette during the entire Christmas season of either 1982 or 1983 or both!! I wore the cassette tape out!! Imagine combining this 2nd Tenor's voice WITH the Vienna Boy Choirs Treble voices. The harmonies are near "angelic" to one's ears.
This is from one of the concerts that The Three Tenors did with Mehta the conductor. Anything from The Three Tenor concerts are fab. Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman singing "Time to say Goodbye " will blow your socks off
What he's singing is the Hail Mary. A prayer that is part of saying the Rosary. In English, the prayer is: Hail Mary, full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen. The other song you were referring to was Nessun Dorma. Nessun Dorma means Let No One Sleep. You're making me remember my Italian @Black Pegasus!!!! I'm an old Baptist and hearing him sing like this gives me chills. What is important to God is not a denomination. It is that each of us seeks a personal relationship with Him, through Christ. If you're saved, your good.
Non believers have never been introduced to the “Personal Relationship” part of having the Christ as a part of our lives. Christians, even though they say they know about the personal relationship thang, then tell ya how you’re doing YOUR personal relationship thang your way.
@kevinmcconnell3641 Sure thing! Firstly, I pray. I talk to God all day long. I ask the Lord to guide me and to make me think about what I'm doing or saying and how it will affect others. I pray for my family and neighbors, our land, our Nation and even our livestock. (My chickens are particularly stupid. God keeps them from killing themselves.) I ask the Lord to protect those in danger from persecution in other nations. I pray that those who are enslaved, be set free. I pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and for those in war torn places. I ask He give them comfort, reassurance and strength. I pray that those who are being persecuted for the Name of Jesus become mighty in the strength of the Lord and that many miracles are given to them. I pray for my nation and it's leader. I ask forgiveness for the battle I have trying to pray for him. I don't want to at ALL, but Jesus died for him too. I pray for those who mock God, not realizing the danger they're in. I even have a list of people from here, who've attacked me in comments. Jesus died for them too. I thank Him for what we have and ask Him to help me use it the right way. I ask his forgiveness for the awful person that I am. I'm a natural cynic and have a wicked tongue. I'm a facts no feelings person, so I depend on the love I get from Christ, to be more gentle and less impatient. I pray for patience with my family and husband. To keep my mouth shut and my ears open. I also read my Bible (or listen to it, Alexander Scourby, KJV here on this app). I think about what I've been reading and I talk to my hubby about it, so he can be where I am and we can be with Jesus, together. (He's got extreme dyslexia) I talk to people about Jesus, I know how little time is left. If you want a relationship with Jesus, read Romans in the New Testament. (Im asking the Lord to have you want to read the whole thing.) Please just look into it. You should read "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" as well. You'd be surprised. Blessings in Christ Jesus! tell God why I'm too impatient to do what He wants, then I repent and do it anyway.
Ah, Schubert’s “Ave Maria”. Beautiful, as is Pavarotti’s voice. Thank you for posting this reaction. Just to clarify (an Italian here), “ave” is pronounced “ah-veh” and Luciano is pronounced “Lu-chee-ano”. 😊
❤❤❤ I love Pavarotti! This song is so beautiful. I am a Christian and I used to listen to heavy metal and rock growing up. Now I'm loving music about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am so blessed beyond measure. I was also born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. Lived there half my life and the other half in Alberta Canada. I love NM but also love Alberta. A musical group called "The Priests" who are actual Irish Priests was formed some years back and they also have some very beautiful music that you might enjoy. I loved that they also included Clannad's Moya Ui Bhraonáin in their concert called "The Priests in Concert at Armagh Cathedral". It's here on RUclips and it is phenomenal.
My grandmother, who died 4 years ago at the age of 95, requested this song for her funeral. It is very common in Austria to play Ave Maria at funerals. Of course I fulfilled her wish, it was very moving.
It's a beautiful thing that happens with age; we let go of all the ego, all the front that keeps us locked into our way of being. It's an absolute honour to watch reactors such as yourself find music that just speaks to the spirit ✌️
I grew up in the days of The Stones, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, etc etc. My friends and I were all long haired hippy types. Protesting the war and all that. When I got to my little space in the world... I listened to classical music almost exclusively. None of my friends did, so I kept that shit to myself. You know.. gotta be cool, fool! Your opening words in this vid pleased me greatly. I'm glad you have discovered this amazing music, and hope you dive deeper into it. It's a rich genre. Oh, and it's pronounced Ah-vay Maria. It's Mary's prayer, as you said. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
A night at the opera is still available! :D Beautiful music, wonderfully talented singers, dancers, great stagecraft, an Orchestra, drinks and socializing during the intermission. It's an experience you won't forget. (lol...whether you like it or not). :)
He passed away years ago. He was the greatest Tenor that ever lived. If you get a chance to watch his PBS Christnas concert, please watch, it's absolutely amazing. They use to air it every year & i never missed it. I don't have a TV now so not sure if they still air it.
Really enjoying this journey with you. I'd love to see you to react to Andrea Bocelli, a magical tenor. He is completely blind, and when onstage just literally seems to lose himself in the music. In the early 90's he was championed by Luciano Pavarotti himself, who thought the lesser known Bocelli would be a better fit for a collaboration project that he'd personally been asked to do, and eventually he convinced everyone, including Bocelli, to agree. That sent Bocelli's career into the sky; the world got to know him. He went platinum within 2 years. Treat yourself to Bocelli's "Con te partirò" As for Pavarotti - YES!! He's on Spotify.. just type "Pavarotti" and you can find much of this voice as you want (including duets with Bocelli).
Also check out the Tenors. There are 4 of them and Pavarotti is one of them. Also, Andrea Bocelli and his son. Love this music as I love all geners of music.
I absolutely enjoy listening t your authentic reactions. You and I would never have any connection if it weren't for this channel. I am 64, and I think you're a good Man. Keep it up, and keep expanding your mind with ALL types of music. Music, as with math, is truly the worlds international language.
I love Pavarotti , but , for me , the best Caruso performance is by Lucio Dalla , who was the author. Pavarotti embellishes it a little too much for my taste. Try the MV , not live , and , btw , filmed in the very hotel room where Caruso lived.
I grew up on Rock n Roll standin' on the gas with our hair on fire. I'm no opera guy by any definition. In the late 70s PBS showed a Pavarotti Christmas Special Notre-Dame Cathedral in Montreal. I watched every year until maybe 15 to 20 years ago when PBS stopped showing it. I look for it every year but I never find it. This version of Ave Maria looks like it is from that show. That entire show was spell binding and one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. There are no words to describe Luciano Pavarotti. He could melt your soul with beauty. The world is a better place for him living in it. May he rest in peace.
I have a varied musical taste, so many rock singers have/had great voices BUT I believe he has the greatest voice there will ever be across all genres. Pav can make an athiest believe 😊❤

My favorite quote has always been "Sweet sounds, Beautiful music, Reject me not into the world again". Pavarotti personifies that.
Him preforming in the three tenors is great as well
More than music, more than singing…this touches your very soul ❤
In our church wedding, we had this this beautiful song sung.
Exactly- its the Hail Mary, sung in opera/ Italian.
You cannot deny excellence. Simple.
Pavarotti did a duet with James Brown "It's A Man's World", worth checking out if you haven't heard it.
Pavarotti & James Brown - “It’s A Man’s World”
Yes indeed, it's awesome
In English, the prayer is:
Hail Mary, full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
The other song you were referring to was Nessun Dorma. Nessun Dorma means Let No One Sleep. You're making me remember my Italian @Black Pegasus!!!! Your friend, the Retired Paramedic in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦🎉
Qui Pavarotti sta cantando in latino.
Buon fine settimana!!! Da un paramedico in pensione e addestratore di cavalli in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦 🙏Yes, he's singing in Latin, but that's what I remember from my church. I'm Catholic and go to Latin masses. But, it is also close to Italian, which is my mother's first language. And I understand that as well. Have a Blessed weekend!!! From a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦 🙏

He had pancreatic cancer, such a loss of the best voice ever
I'm an old Baptist and hearing him sing like this gives me chills.
What is important to God is not a denomination. It is that each of us seeks a personal relationship with Him, through Christ.
If you're saved, your good.
Non believers have never been introduced to the “Personal Relationship” part of having the Christ as a part of our lives.
Christians, even though they say they know about the personal relationship thang, then tell ya how you’re doing YOUR personal relationship thang your way.
@kevinmcconnell3641 Sure thing!
Firstly, I pray. I talk to God all day long.
I ask the Lord to guide me and to make me think about what I'm doing or saying and how it will affect others.
I pray for my family and neighbors, our land, our Nation and even our livestock. (My chickens are particularly stupid. God keeps them from killing themselves.)
I ask the Lord to protect those in danger from persecution in other nations.
(He's got extreme dyslexia)
I talk to people about Jesus, I know how little time is left.
If you want a relationship with Jesus, read Romans in the New Testament. (Im asking the Lord to have you want to read the whole thing.)
Please just look into it.

I got goosebumps hearing him sing! His voice is magical.
This is just beautiful, you can just feel it, I love Opera.
I love that you are getting into all the music, across genres
This man brought me to tears whenever he sang this! My dad’s favorite song. Christmas Eve wasn’t Christmas Eve without hearing this ❤️
He passed away years ago. He was the greatest Tenor that ever lived. If you get a chance to watch his PBS Christnas concert, please watch, it's absolutely amazing. They use to air it every year & i never missed it. I don't have a TV now so not sure if they still air it.
He once coached the tenor captain at our church choir. He was just that amazing!
Treat yourself to Bocelli's "Con te partirò"
As for Pavarotti - YES!! He's on Spotify.. just type "Pavarotti" and you can find much of this voice as you want (including duets with Bocelli).
I agree, Andrea Bocelli is outstanding
Absolutely beautiful! One of my Mom's favorite songs. Thank You for reacting to it.
Amen❤
The concert was from the three tenors ,Pavarotti,Domingo and jose carreras,it was carreras who was just recovering from lukemiaand his recovery.
Nice reaction - a golden voice was Luciano
Also check out the Tenors. There are 4 of them and Pavarotti is one of them. Also, Andrea Bocelli and his son. Love this music as I love all geners of music.
I absolutely enjoy listening t your authentic reactions. You and I would never have any connection if it weren't for this channel. I am 64, and I think you're a good Man. Keep it up, and keep expanding your mind with ALL types of music. Music, as with math, is truly the worlds international language.
You should listen to The Three Tenors. You don’t know what you’ve been missing with all this fabulous music that comes from outside of America 😊😊
Luciano singing Caruso is the most beautiful vocal performance ever in my opinion. Everytime I hear I'm instantly moved to tears
I love Pavarotti , but , for me , the best Caruso performance is by Lucio Dalla , who was the author. Pavarotti embellishes it a little too much for my taste. Try the MV , not live , and , btw , filmed in the very hotel room where Caruso lived.
It’s actually pronounced Ahh-vay Maria an is the prayer, Hail Mary, in Latin.
No one does it justice like this amazing and gifted man!
Goosebumps and tears!
The chills for sure.
I have a varied musical taste, so many rock singers have/had great voices BUT I believe he has the greatest voice there will ever be across all genres. Pav can make an athiest believe 😊❤
The greatest ever tenor. Try "Nessun Dorma", stunning.
