We won't see the likes of Luciano Pavarotti again in our lifetimes. To have the 3 of them singing and joking together was pure magic. People forget that opera - like Shakespeare - was written for the masses. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
Thank you so much! They DID NOT lipsync!!! These guys never lipsynced--it was real & it was live. The technology wasn't there for a lot the tech magic that supports modern performers today.
Each of them was considered the best living operatic tenor singers, and the idea came about that they could do some appearances together at major sports events, and do benefit concerts for charities. They toured together from about 1990-2003, and expanded the different types of music they performed (which occasionally upset opera purists.) Pavarotti is Italian and the other two are Spanish.
I have been to all sorts of gigs all over the world and seeing Pavarotti open air in Wales was breath taking. It was a stunning summer afternoon the swallows were swooping in a cloud free sky, one of the best experiances of my life. Pavarotti was a wonderful man with a smile to die for.
These 3 exquisitely gifted gentlemen were goofing on each other, having fun with their time together!!! From the beginning of this once in a lifetime gathering, the 3 were animated, supportive, and giving the very best they had, preformance wise, for themselves, each other and the audience!!! I absolutely LOVE this!!! Perfection!!!
I still have the Three Tenors CD. It's just as good to hear today as it was in the 90s. Absolutely timeless iconic performance. Pavarotti is still my favorite out of them, but Placido Domingo is right up there with him.
Verdi lived from 1813-1901 so this WAS a drinking song from an opera called La Taviata written in 1853....so this is 171 year old drinking song. There were drinks king songs back in the Middle Ages and Ancient Greece and Rome too
You MUST watch them sing "O Sole Mio" (from this same concert series) where they try and one-up each other with how long they can hold the high notes - It's hilarious and just fabulous entertainment!

As someone else said , Carreras was just recovering from leukemia. He spent quite some time in a germ proof isolation room and other singers would visit him, which did happen, and would ask what they could do for him his answer was always, ' Do a concert and give all. I mean ALL, of the proceeds to cancer research or to the hospitals to build these rooms!" He really believed it saved his life he didn't stop there. If a week or so passed and he had not heard any movement by that artist to do a concert, he would pick up the phone and call them, "And when is your cancer concert? " He did not let a single soul off on their promise!
The 3 tenors were not "a group", but 3 individual tenors who decided to gang up and give concerts all over the world (I think they performed in the USA too), for the fun of it. Sadly, Luciano Pavarotti passed away in 2007. The "drinking song" is indeed the introduction to "La Traviata" by Giuseppe Verdi. The scene is at a party given by the main character, Violetta, a "kept woman".
All three are incredible for sure, but I think we can credit Pavarotti for introducing opera to many Americans who wouldn't have gone to a traditional concert His personality and willingness to be on TV shows introduced him to the masses. I loved hearing all of them individually, but together it's raised to a different level
Incredible experience is so true. Never will we hear this again with the loss of Pavarotti in 2007. Carreras at 77 and Domingo at 83 are still performing.
You probably don't want to do it for the channel, due to length, but you should sit down and watch the whole concert. These guys were the best of the best and you could tell that they were having a ball singing together.

Their performance of 'O Sole Mio is one of my favorites, their channel has the music video clip from 2011..
Fun fact: The arranger of this concert that was mentioned, Lalo Shiffrin, is also the composer of the themes from the Mission Impossible and Mannix TV shows back in the 60’s as well as the scores to the movies Bullitt, Enter the Dragon, Cool Hand Luke, The Amityville Horror, and the Rush Hour Trilogy to name a few. He is also five-time Grammy award winner as well as being nominated for six Academy Awards and for Emmy awards. Real big name in film and TV scoring.
You understood it perfectly. It's from the opera 'La Traviata." and is always sung in a room where a party is in full swing. The opera has its tragedies and dramas but this song is meant to set a fun atmosphere. It's wonderful to see the opera live. Maybe you and your wife will get to experience opera live one day. The three tenors are not a group or band. They are each some of the most famous tenors who ever lived and performed operas or individual performances. This was a special setup they performed and the whole thing is awesome. We've lost Pavarotti (RIP) but the other two are still out there. A few years ago I had the privilege of attending an opera with Placido Domingo, who is my favorite of the three. SO GLAD you're enjoying opera. It does something to the soul that is different than other forms of music and while I'm not saying it's better, it's so worth experiencing. And now it's time for a famous female singer. Frederica von Stade singing "Non so più" from 'Nozze di Figaro' by Mozart. In this opera she plays an adolescent boy whose voice hasn't dropped yet. Just listen to her vocal control in this aria! It's legendary! ruclips.net/video/38SD7_nQnsA/видео.html&ab_channel=rexeterna
Loved that concert so much, 2 Spaniards and an Italian blessing our ears - my personal favorite Tenor is Placido Domingo (tall guy on the right or left, depending on whether you're looking from stage or audience), although I sincerely appreciate Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras. When Placido sings 'E lucevan le Stelle' from Puccini's masterpiece "Tosca", I get the shivers. Music can calm you, excite you and console you and that is why it is my favorite Art form.
The Three Tenors were Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carres. They did tours. This is the drinking song from the opera "La Travata". Check out the "Habenara" from "Carmen". Jose Carres had been through cancer treatment. Aria - (Ah-re-Ah). Your are jumping into the deep end. Well done! They are all tenors but you will notice the difference in their tone. They were marvelous together. Listen to the entire concert. They sang all genre of songs.
Jose Carreras had just recovered from cancer and was not at his peak. In the opera world Placido Domingo is considered to be a finer tenor than Pavarotti. They are all world class talent, but Pavarotti is the crowd pleaser. So glad you're introducing all of these magnificent singers.
@@kimm2304 Placido can act!! So can Jose Carreras. Pavarotti was absolutely wooden on stage and his weight didn't help. He was great, though, in concert.

Even if the lyrics sound light-hearted, this in a excerpt from the tragic opera "La Traviata" from 19Th century Italian maestro composer Giuseppe Verdi. He was so hugely revered that his face was portrayed on our most used banknote for ages before Italian "Lira" merged in the Euro currency in 2002. The "Three Tenors" tour was a successful attempt to bring back opera music to the people after decades when it had been relegated to music for a narrow niche of audiophiles snobs. After the tour, other singers meet unexpected success even in the US, for example Andrea Bocelli with his global opera hit "Con te partirò" (I will leave with you). Jose Carreras and even more Placido Domingo were great tenors but Pavarotti was something else. You should see him duet with James Brown, amazing performance! R.I.P. Big Luciano.
People believe, for some reason, especially in the U.S., that opera is for the elite, upper crust classes. Operas were originally written for the masses. It was THE form of entertainment. They are so dramatic and almost overdone, they remind me of the soap operas of today.
I'm glad you are here for this great music and these phenomenal singers. I enjoy your reactions so much. It does my heart good to see your genuine pleasure as you're listening.
These were the top three tenors in opera in the 20th Century They were competitors that realized how they could give opera a greater boost by singing together.

But over the years I learned so many classical and operatic pieces which are mindblowing. It's a pity that less and less people discover the beauty of this music.
I saw a behind the scenes thing where these three guys, at that time, were the most sought after tenors, didn't let their egos get in the way and just had fun doing the concert. They just loved performing for the people.

Loved this reaction, and also your response to classical music. I’d like to suggest a couple of works for you to listen to on your own, as they’re too long for reaction videos. Some are more modern, but they might be life changing, and I think you’d enjoy them. All are available on RUclips. 1) Beethoven: symphonies 5 & 9, and the Apassionata sonata. 2) Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring. 3) Janacek: Sinfonietta. These last 2 are more modern and quite exciting. Beethoven is the man. So is Mahler, BTW.
I like your open mind to music man, transgressing genres and styles and just exploring them from curiosity and eagernness to discover. That's the real attitude to the arts!
Loo-CHEE-ano - or, as referred to in my family, "Looch." Had the pleasure of seeing each of them perform in full performances at the Metropolitan Opera, and was in the on-stage audience when Pavoratti did a concert at Madison Square Garden for PBS.
Really enjoying the songs you've been reviewing lately! From Kansas to the 3 Tenors. Its been fun watching your reactions to music most people have either never heard or haven't heard in a long time (at least for us older fok!). Thanks for the fun!
Placido Domingo also used to do a number of holiday concerts in Vienna, Austria, with powerful modern singers, like Celine Dion, Shirley Bassey and so on. He also covered a John Denver song, "Perhaps Love" (as a duet) and won a total of 14 Grammys, as well as other awards (like a Golden Globe) for his opera films. I once had the opportunity to see a live concert -- I never was so miffed at how little I know about Italian opera, especially Verdi (who wrote "Brindisi") and Puccini. Back in the 1980s, he also took part in a recording of "Aida", one of THE great operas, filmed at the original locations around Verona, Italy. One of the best voices ever, and a wonderful performer! José Carreras founded/runs a charity for people suffering with leukemia.
This is the drinking (toast) song from Giuseppe Verdi's opera "La Traviata" (The Fallen Woman). It is based on "La Dame aux camélias" (The Lady of the Camellias, 1852), a play by Alexandre Dumas fils (Junior), which he adapted from his own 1848 novel. You probably know his father- Alexandre Dumas, the author of The Three Musketeers.
Saw the Three Tenors. Luciano Pavarotti was my father and i favorite. Took my father right befire he died at age 58. Pavarotti died if pancreatic cancer
This was aired live, and I watched it with my mother. I said, gosh, Placido Domingo would be my choice, and she said “who cares about the tenors? My choice is the conductor”. I have never felt so close to mother as I did that moment 😂❤
Opera was the musical theater of its day, like Broadway musicals are now. Plays, with music. Some operas are tragedies and some are comedies. This wasn't just some drinking song that people sang in bars. It was written by Verdi for a drinking scene in the opera La Traviata. The conductor, Zubin Mehta, was the musical director/conductor of the NY Philharmonic Orchestra from 1978-1991. He has also been the musical director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic.
As for the lyrics, I was watching some famous aria years ago with subtitles, and was completely taken aback because the song was about sewing on a button. The whole beautiful song was about a button. Cracked me up.
You should look up Andre Rieu he’s a conductor that travels with an orchestra and they mostly just perform songs that remind people classical music was meant to be fun and not completely stuffy and boring. It’s a great option (along with movie composers like John Williams in concert) to realize people have always enjoyed having fun through the centuries. Look up Andre Rieu & Amira “O Mio Babbino Caro.” Also his “Song of Olympia” really anything he’s conducted will make you impressed with the talent he brings together and have a lot of feelings. I was looking for a specific one but those 2 distracted me. Also suggestion of specific classical pieces to look up to emphasize that people have always been similar through the centuries look up Mozart’s “Leck Mich” find one without the English translation on screen first and then find one with it translated.
This is "the" drinking song. It was so great that we had the three best tenors in the world at the same time touring and having fun.
Of course, none of them touch Caruso as tenors.

Wow...just listened to a harp version. Link - ruclips.net/video/vVTPbLhlbfI/видео.html Listen to both and decide which you like best.
I saw it live .. it was magnifico
Thanks for giving me a smile today.
They did an amazing concert in LA in front of Sinatra, Gene Kelly & other Hollywood greats.
Pav sang My Way & Sinatra loved it
Really enjoying the songs you've been reviewing lately!
This song has been in so many movies
Now I know what I'm going to listen to tonight 😂. I love all 3 of them.
I can see this being played at a wedding 🥂
Let’s enjoy, the cup and the canticle, the lovely night and the smiles; may the new day find them (still) in this paradise.
I'm not an opera lover.
But those voices. You don't care. I loved the Three Tenors... And Pavorati wow
Now that’s some voices 👏👏👏👏👵🏼 Gmaw
Absolutely amazing!
Saw the Three Tenors. Luciano Pavarotti was my father and i favorite. Took my father right befire he died at age 58. Pavarotti died if pancreatic cancer
Dude, I just never know what you are gonna drop on me! Loved this one!
This was aired live, and I watched it with my mother. I said, gosh, Placido Domingo would be my choice, and she said “who cares about the tenors? My choice is the conductor”. I have never felt so close to mother as I did that moment 😂❤
Lots of happy songs in opera, I just finished a season, of a Strauss opera. I had one song about champagne, and one about kissing.
Fantastic! Love your reaction. I agree: party song ❤
They were friends. They did this as a charity performance for concaer research, Jpse. the middle tenor had recently been recovering from cancer.
Oh my ears is so happy right now
Opera was the musical theater of its day, like Broadway musicals are now.
These three were such fun
On some of the songs they did at this it is fun to watch them kid around with each other.
Can I blow your mind? Look up John Denver and one of the 3 tenors Placido Damingo Perhaps Love it's beautiful. As you have just reacted to both.
As for the lyrics, I was watching some famous aria years ago with subtitles, and was completely taken aback because the song was about sewing on a button. The whole beautiful song was about a button. Cracked me up.
Too good!
they look so happy, lol
Again Waren G and Sissel: Prince Igor, i think her voice vil blot you away. 🤷♀️👀🤗 thank you for your reactions. 🤩👌
Also suggestion of specific classical pieces to look up to emphasize that people have always been similar through the centuries look up
Mozart’s “Leck Mich” find one without the English translation on screen first and then find one with it translated.
