    I am saddened by the number of negative comments claiming 53 HP increase was a waste of time and money. It really highlights the lack of basic understanding of SCs and the build then adjust approach to Hot Rodding. For folks who aren't famaliar with Superchargers (and aren't puking out your negative opinions) the combo gets more boost with a simple pulley change. More blower speed equals more boost equals more HP. 53 HP was with 4 psi boost. There will be a follow up episode with more power. Have to build it before you can tweak it.

      We’re spoiled by impractical builds with insane numbers. This is much closer to reality you can replicate in your own garage. And yeah, as you point out it’s incremental and 50+ HP is a difference you can really feel.

    I was trying to figure out the port fuel injection situation, then I realized that this engine must already feature direct injection, so any time the port fuel injectors are running, the air flow down the intake runners must be substantial enough to make up for the poor fuel injection geometry. It was a satisfying "Oh!" moment for me.

    I would suspect that it wouldn't make much difference in peak numbers or anything but, I wonder if the longer runners under the blower and the added plenum volume in that throttle body elbow would make a noticable difference in throttle response and part throttle tq. I can't imagine that it could hurt. I am a little curious how the injector spray pattern would work with the injectors shooting into straight into the runners rather than being angled down the port. I have seen where Kasse had good results angling the injectors up the in the ports on a test. Looks like you did some great work as usual and I am definitely here to see it.

    I'm not sure if I saw it right. But I might be raining on your parade by pointing out the location of where you put your coolant temp sensor. It's in the part below the thermostat so it reads the engine side temp before reading the radiator side. So you may or may not run into some closed loop fueling issues or inaccuracies in coolant temp before the thermostat opens because of it being above it rather than below it. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty sweet unit 👍

    • @Calvin-Nelson
      @Calvin-Nelson  5 месяцев назад

      I moved it from the factory location which is below the thermostat to above the thermostat. I haven't noticed any issues at all either way.

    • @user-jp1hs6sl3h
      @user-jp1hs6sl3h 5 месяцев назад

      @@Calvin-Nelson Fair enough. I just didn't know if by changing the location it would cause any issues. You may not know until you get some miles on it. I was just more or less letting you know it could cause some issues with fueling. But it would only be during the time of first start up until the thermostat opens. The temp sensor is below the thermostat to see the engine temp, not the radiator temp.
      But as long as it works, then there isn't much of an issue 😅 I was just making an observation 👍

    First, I definitely thought that would have been a heavier car! My daily hot rod is 3280 with me and subwoofers in it.
    For only making less than 5psi that's not a bad gain! I love the work you do. Always looks good all while being home built! I wish my cars looked half as good! But zip ties work, lol.
    If you have read this far maybe you can answer a question for me. My daily has a small turbo on it that I'm leaning on pretty hard. Making about 25psi and 300whp out of a 1.8 4 cylinder with a 9.5:1 compression, well new. Doing a compression test results in 75psi on all 4. It's tired and I have a built engine just no time to install it. Anyway... Exhaust back pressure, is it possible to use an analog boost gauge to measure it? I really don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on something I've went this long without but I feel like it's something I should look at.

    I can't wait until you get that blower speed up, and i'm interested to see the torque curve from 2800 - 6500 with those monster heads. I was wondering about the injector placement though, Is it because of the pressurized air in the intake that you're able to point them almost directly at the outside of the intake adapter wall? I've always thought injector height and angle were critical to timing because of heat and atomization properties. Is there a way to run them on the outside of the adapter at a steeper angle? Anyways, you're killin it, thanks for your awesome videos, and I'm hopeful that you'll have more Northstar content soon.

    I'm having fantasies about building an L8T short block 401ci-441ci, either stock bore and stroke or bored to 4.125" and stroked to 4.125", then using some ported L83/L84 heads then running it either n/a or with an LT4 blower...even though those aren't the highest flowing Gen V head they are supposed to be close to a Gen IV rec port in flow, with really good port shapes and improved valve angles. Ideally if I went n/a I would try to maintain the DI so I could get away with more compression than port injection, hopefully over 12:1, maybe 12.5:1 on pump gas, so it would make at least 600hp, possibly 650-700hp n/a, otherwise with the blower and port injection I would imagine 700-800hp would be possible on ethanol with some tricks and the LT4 blower. I wish there was a simple way like Holley to run the port and DI like an LT5 so you could feed more power than the DI can support, keep the intake valves from coking up with soot and have the advantages of DI for detonation resistance and efficiency, maybe even have a dual fuel system where you could go on a drag and drive event and use 91-94oct pump fuel for just cruising under light loads then have your auxiliary port injection feeding from a tank of Ethanol to feed higher power levels and give the benefit of cooling the charge and added detonation resistance. Ideally you could save on your ethanol just cruising and have it there for when you need it to make a hit and you're not a slave to special fuel stations that sell E.

RPM Performance is a good reference, basis to view with using these details along with their achievements with mostly essential street cars {Fran (owner has his Corvette race car too; 2nd place World Cup Final 2023)
      Just a change to the fuel with proper E85 will increase the wHP by 100HP+ more with higher content ethanol up to as E98 and similar; all without any significant weight increase in the engine compartment; certainly more useful, helpful, beneficial addition with "flex-fuel" sensor and improved intake manifold from the previous.
      also methanol injection, water injection or water-methanol injection are excellent, reliable, useful, helpful, beneficial additions; all prior to any forced induction boost and useful with them too. Check your idler pulley for how much resistance is present, there may be free hp there. ALthough the increase is very good. This is to the wheels people ought to understand that more. 53HP is very substantial to the wheels at this power level it is noticable. I would be happy with 350 wheel horsepower in some cars. This is a good amount of power that can transmit well through tires to the ground for some very good performance. Those people scoffing 53 hp to the wheels know not anything about real world performance and even mpg in cars. A wheel measurement of any horsepower and torque increase would be an improvement. Also they do not understand the torque increase throughout the entire curve must be quite substantial to have made a 53 peak horsepower improvement. i bet it has boosted engine output level across the entire rpm band above the original curves. Well great car and hope people learn from this when they get spanked by your stude because they think it didn't make any power. Lol. Laterz.

    Fantastic work and engineering on the building of the car. Love seeing original builds being done. But, that engine is a true statement to Garbage Motors crap. All that work for a 45whp gain. Then people wonder why LS/LT always taking the big L to much smaller engines all the time with less work, less parts, and less money thrown at them...

      Warren Lucioer, Your comment is common among the common ignoramuses which view, watch this channel along with all automotive channels; certainly lacking the basics within actual engineering which requires using physics, principles, design, development, verification, certification, assessment, evaluation, differentiation, discernment, analysis, determination, [actual] Theory, proper measurements, then fabrication, implementation, proper testing verification, certification.

    On the average a clutch, manual transmission, through a driveshaft and rear differential has an average driveline loss of approximately 15% or an 85% net. I bet your crankshaft horsepower is very close to 476.

    • @Calvin-Nelson
      @Calvin-Nelson  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah. I was figuring around 10% because of the rear being an 8.8 and it being a modern transmission. Hard to say without actually measuring it though.
