Great Video. After playing golf for 30 years I finally decided to try to shoot lower score but playing the percentages instead of the "hero" shots that can really rack up a big number.
Thanks Mark…used the information gleaned from your videos to finally crack 80 today! My mindset was to improve the number of greens in regulation ( 9 ) today and to avoid the trouble on my course..got caught out by the second last hole, a tricky short par three , and took my only double because of a bunker. This information is very valuable! Patience is a real virtue in this game. Cheers from Nova Scotia..MikeR.
Mark, Absolutely love your videos and have been following you for about 12ish years. Your tips have helped me in my career at the professional level on Mini Tours and in Monday Qs. Working on My own content now and using you as a guide. Thanks for everything!
Finally had a chance to get my Arccos grips fitted today. Can’t wait to get out and start to get some much needed help and information on my game! Thanks for the content Mark! I really like how you simplify the game.
great stuff, and importantly strategizing like this means that even on you not best striking days you still have a very good chance to break 80, that makes golf a lot more fun
Laying up to a distance makes sense. Anyone who is working on breaking 80 can lay up to a distance and are not 20-30 yards off. Thanks for your work. I enjoy it.
@@MarkCrossfield Thank you sir for the pleasure of your response. Perhaps I did not clearly understand; but if we suppose a player hits a gap (GW) 95 to 105 and PW of 125 +/- 10yrds. And they are out at 280 (for illustration's sake). I much prefer the layup 5 iron (or 4 hybrid depending on the day and the attendant hazards) to 100- 130 yards to the 3 wood to 60/50/40 yards. Being a 13 and frequently knocking on 80; that is my experience. And this is particularly true where I play, here in central Florida; because of the multiple hazards nearing the green. I know you are a busy man. I do not expect a response. Best, and thank you for all you do!
What are your thoughts about swing weight throughout the bag? Should they be the same or should the driver, woods and hybrids be lighter than irons? Current my driver is a D5 and my irons D1. I really enjoy my irons a lot and the are a pleasure to hit.
I’m stuck in the mid 80s. Fairways 46%, up & down 31%, putting 1.9, … greens in reg 24%. Need to sort out my greens in reg and it is always a lateral dispersion issue. If I hit the green I generally hold it and if I miss it I am, more often than not, pin high. My approach play is really holding me back as a golfer. Having lessons, which I’m struggling to take onto the course (I’m a 10 handicapper when with a pro). Any and all advice is very welcome.
Great video!! Makes common sense. BUT!!! We all think we are better than we are. So long as I have a half decent round, and a good laugh with my group/society its a good day.
Love every single video. Don’t know where else to ask, so here goes: any plans in the works for course vlog rebirth? The public are back to the office and ready to watch the muppet tour in all of its splendor.
Strategy is such a big part of golf that I see people screw up. I'm a 5 handicap and I play with some friends who range from like a 15 to a 30ish handicap, and it's the one thing they all do wrong consistently. We'll pull up a hole with hidden carries and hazards or tight fairways and they just grab driver and aim down the middle of the fairway without thinking. I'll say hey guys what's the carry over the water there or how far to that bunker or what's the rollout at the end of the dogleg and their response is usually "I don't know". That's why I love having the GPS apps where I can check distances and find the widest part of the fairway or where the bailout is. They're spraying drivers into the lakes or carrying is over the dogleg into some trees instead of planning anything out for just a second.
I really struggle with hitting a fade and kind of just rely hitting the Draw and just starting trusting it this year. Broken 80 a couple times this year just trusting the ball flight
Had a major incident on that par 3 3rd hole on O'connor whilst on holiday a few years back! #HoleInOne Love Amendoira, such a great resort with everything you need on site.
I do disagree with not looking for specific yardages. Many players are much stronger with full swing wedges rather than half swing. 90 and under shots. I generally get tighter from 130- 105 than 95 to 50 yards to the green. Thats just my 2 sense.
I'm a big "middle of the green" guy. The guys I play with all laser the flag every time and hit exactly that for number. I try to always ignore the info I'm hearing.
Im usually the guy screaming for my ball to get into the bunker. It shocks everyone lol. Obviously I would take a straight forward chip then a bunker but I have way more confidence hitting out of a pristine bunker then the rough at most golf courses.
So what you’re saying is that 21 handicappers like myself need to just take whatever few great shots we may luck up with and avoid bad shots like the plague. Lol

The data clearly shows dispersion from say 150-230 is not tight. Making laying up to a distance unless forced a bad choice.

In the break 80 series, is there any thought on talking about the mental the game of golf or course strategy?

Yep
Not new but enthusiastically presented
For me, consistency is a bit of a problem! I can shoot 79 one day then 90 the next. Thank you for the tips!

Tip #1 : Aim the ball
Tips #2 through #1283: Also Aim the ball

Eewww - rainbow shaft?
Surprised that 70 shooters have a penalty off tee in 5%. That’s 1 in 20 tee shots ie barely better than 1 per round
They also have hits into recovery areas remember. 👍
Ha! You're a shaftoid.
Totally, it's made me 77 yards longer and it's getting comments. It's the best shaft ever 😂
