  • Breaking 80 in golf is a significant milestone for many golfers. It requires a combination of skill, strategy, and mental toughness. Here are three keys to help you break 80:
    1. Consistent Ball Striking: One of the most crucial aspects of breaking 80 is consistent ball striking. This means hitting the ball solidly and accurately with every club in your bag. Focus on improving your swing mechanics, tempo, and timing to ensure clean contact with the ball. Regular practice and lessons from a qualified instructor can help you refine your technique and develop a consistent swing.
    2. Effective Course Management: Strategic course management is essential for lowering your scores. Instead of always going for the longest shot possible, learn to play smart by selecting the right clubs and aiming for safer landing areas. Avoid unnecessary risks and focus on positioning yourself for easier approach shots and putts. Understanding the layout of the course, including hazards, wind conditions, and green slopes, can help you make better decisions and improve your overall score.
    3. Strong Mental Game: Golf is as much a mental game as it is physical. Developing a strong mental approach can help you stay focused, confident, and composed under pressure. Practice visualization techniques to picture successful shots and positive outcomes. Learn to manage your emotions and avoid getting frustrated or dwelling on mistakes. Adopting a positive attitude, maintaining a routine, and staying patient throughout the round can significantly impact your performance and help you break 80.
Remember, breaking 80 takes time, dedication, and practice. Focus on continuous improvement, and celebrate your progress along the way. Enjoy the journey of becoming a better golfer!

All very good points, most of the people I seen that struggle to break 80 its all about tee shots, they top, thin , hit left, hit right, barely 100 yds at times, then it only goes down hill from there, you have to have a certain degree of capability to even begin to think about breaking 80

I agree all thought process though and building in that mindset to do it!

some good advice if you're close to breaking 80. as others have said, what I see from higher handicap golfers (myself included at 16) is that strategy isn't really the foremost problem
some higher handicappers struggle because distance is a huge issue. par 4 at 360 yards when you're not even driving the ball 200 means you're taking 3 shots just to get on the green. that's an insurmountable issue really; strategy won't help there
others - like myself - have big misses. my driver swing speed averages at 107 and maxes at 111 so a bad swing off the tee invariably means lost ball or _at best_ chipping for position. this is especially hard when you have a two-way miss and from my experience of other golfers it's really common to see players who both pull and slice (consistent out-to-in path and then poor club face management)
you've then got to factor in mishits too - fats, tops, shanks etc - which invariably account for a number of shots each round
so #1 priority as you've listed in your description has to be consistency of strike. lowering the mishits, minimising the bad shots. that's the key to lowering scores - THEN strategy can help you lower them further
regardless, love watching your videos, keep the content coming :)

Problem is I play a tight course 3 of 9 holes have 50 yards of fairway. 2 more are sucker holes and one is on a hill the hill going right to left. The par 4s are insane
