Edit: A chorus pedal is a great option to get the bassist sound, i didn't hear any on first sight but it might add a lot. Also you can play the intro with a ringing open A string
Simple but really effective and incredibly melodic/harmonic. There's usual errors trying to interpret it, but i used lots of videos to get it a bit more clear. Muting the A string is required if you want a little less mud to form around your playing (you can use you left hand middle finger as i do). I think there shouldn't be much exactitude in this cover to be a little more relatable to the genre, so just enjoy.
About harmony, much of it is followed by the bass and keys. Key is D so you have:
I D (D F# A) (Dsus2 has an E that resolves in D)
II Em (E G B)
III F#m (F# A C#)
IV G (G B D) (on the song you have G/A, meaning it's a G but with the bass plays A)
V A (A C# E)
VI Bm (B D F#)
VII C#dim (C# E G)
As i said, some of this can even be ambiguous since some parts form harmony just with melodic motifs
+CoverSolutions ataxia (frusciante,Klinghoffer,lally) is a perfect example of _really_ simple bass lines that are kept interesting by the guitars motifs

actually most of it is technically harmonic intervals and not specifically chords. chords have to be 3 or more notes
Peter hook is an incredibly underrated bassist. Never knew it was played with open strings good work 👍
He drones open strings quite a bit. Works with She's Lost Control and maybe Insight.
I love Joy Division for the fact that they're such a bass driven band. A song like Disorder would basically disappear entirely if you took the bass out.

If buying a Fender VI or Hooky bass is out of your budget, I found another solution: get a Digitech BP 200 multi effect bass pedal and try the rock wah preset (setting the volume/wah pedal on it on the down position) and you will be surprised to get the Joy Division/ New Order bass sound with a four string bass guitar too. I for myself use a simple Fender Rumble amp and together with this pedal, it delivers this sound too. Solutions don't necessarily have to be expensive.
Update: just plugged in my Cort semi-acoustic bass guitar and the sound is more Joy Division-like ominous than a Fender VI or a Hooky bass will ever be. LMAO very loud!

Hey guys, could please anyone help with an advice - how to mute the A and E strings while playing chords on G and D in this song? D is open, so there is no option to mute strings with your left hand (only with a thumb, but it’s not super convenient, especially if you standing up while playing), and the right hand is strumming. So I’m a bit confused. Or in this song it is okay to let all the strings ringing?

La manera en que tocas esta canción me genera dudas, ojo no al escucharte con toda la istrumentación, sino al tocarla sin acompañamiento. Incluso posiblemente Peter Hook la tocaba como tú. Y puede que me equivoque rotundamente, pero creo que suena mejor y la canción gana mucho sobretodo en peso si tocas la quinta de la (la y mi) y haces sonar incluso las 3 cuerdas (la al aire su 8 en traste 7 2 cuerda y el mi en 1º cuerda) y luego antes de terminar la vuelta en vez de tocar el si y su tercera menor (que creo genera mucha tensión) tocas el si y su quinta. Bueno, en un rato traduzco al ingles mi comentario (porque no sé qué idioma hablas aunque tienes muchas canciones de grupos latinos). Saludos.

+haley harmicar I actually think it _is_ common tbf. flea has done it in RHCP (snow, don't forget me, *parts* of zepyhr song, *parts* of falling into grace) the verse and interlude of blood sugar sex magik is double stops. John frusciante plays bass on his records and for example "central" has bass strumming in it. Tye Zamora (alien ant farm) used to use chords. In "flesh and bone" he uses full chords not just double stops. Also, Tool.
+haley harmicar ataxia has one song that is just two bass chords as the basis of the songs. D5, C5 that's all the bass plays throughout. may sound boring, but give it a listen you probably be surprised as I was
