That first "synth" solo was actually Billy Currie playing an electric viola, the second solo was on a mini moog. I heard this song late at night on our college radio station in 1981, went out and bought the album the next day!
I am stoked that you are continuing to enjoy your exploration into Ultravox. They were creative and different enough to stand apart from the innumerable synth bands at the time. I cannot tell you how hard Astradyne hit as the opening track to "Vienna". The entire album is one you play in it's entirety, skipping no tracks because they are all of the highest calibre. I think you would like the minimalist and mysterious "Mr X". It has an unusual vocal approach which you will love. Maybe on your next outing with this band, pair it with the very commercial "Dancing With Tears in my Eyes" from "Lament". 😢
Never heard these Songs from Ultravox. "Astradyne" have an hypnotic quality and is completely instrumental as it seems. A bit of ambiant because of the same tone all along and that repetitive rythmic pattern running under. Nice Synth Solo at the end, following that violin part. Beautiful voice and impressive orchestration on "All in one day" 🙏 it have a soundtrack vibe, structured and something processional and triumphant as you said. I knew the song "Dancing with tears in my eyes" from them.
Great stuff, I'm always up for some Ultravox! 🥰👍I'm familiar with "Astradyne" but I don't think I've heard "All In One Day" before? I'm mainly familiar to varying degrees with their albums Systems of Romance (1978) through Lament (1984). I think I've mentioned it before but "Sleepwalk" and "Western Promise" are two of my most favorite UV songs, both off of Vienna.
All in one day was from the dreaded UVOX album, should never have been made after they sacked Warren and had a mish mash of ideas and really was a let down.
I’m not very familiar with Ultravox, but I really enjoyed these two songs! Strangely enough, “Astradyne” was giving me some A Flock of Seagulls vibes. “All In One Day” is such a grand, epic piece!! Great choices for today my friend! 😊
Astradyne--if I didn't know better, I'd have guessed that was from the Alan Parsons Project, due to the production/engineering. Nice ride All In One Day-majestic, which is usually the point of a tribute, as our host pointed out the song was meant to be
Hello. Great APP reference! I had no idea there was a song about Live Aid. Makes sense, since I believe Midge was heavily involved? Thanks for the usual visit and for being first tonight! 🥇
@@retroreactions.... Live Aid was co-organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. They also co-wrote the charity single "Do They Know it's Christmas". It stayed at #1 for five weeks on the UK charts. It was the lucrative Christmas #1, and became the fastest-selling single ever in Britain, raising £8 million!
Agreed! 😎👍 And from the album Point Of Know Return the last two songs "Nobody's Home" and "Hopelessly Human" would make a great pair for a Retro Reaction video! 🥰
Hey Brandon, very familiar territory here... Aah, Ultravox, as grandiose and frigid as usual 😜 I haven't listened to them for decades now but they were important in my prime. Midge Ure really has a great, very distinctive voice (as quite about any 80s singer, no way you can't confuse one for the other). Why not give a try to Visage next, the musicians are the same... My favourite always has been The Damned Don't Cry.
I was lucky enough to see Midge in concert a few years back. It was a come to Jesus moment it was sooooo sublime. Thanks for continually picking great artists
Don't know them before Vienna, lost interest after Rage in eden. Wish they had created more songs like Astadyne which was an unusual opener of the album. A great instrumental song like theme for great cities is for Simple minds. Former Ultravox leadsinger John Fox had a single i once bought at a sale and Endlessly is a very nice single, b side Your dress is great too.
Late on parade Brandon. U/V not my favourites. I had an Eaglesfest late last night. Seems you haven't featured them? Too much 'Hotel California' perhaps? They are quality, best showcased at their '77 gig in Washington. Brilliant live performances.
Two completely different songs, showcasing their incredible range.. Thanks for watching! 🥰

Ultravox are my favourite band and Astradyne always sounds glorious to me. All In One Day is a song about Live Aid, where the band had performed
Astradyne has been quoted as having an impact on Detroit Techno and so although Ultravox never broke America, they were influential.
yeah, Midge Ure is nothing less than a national treasure.
Though Billy is the main artist on that track with his viola and the ARP Odysee

Ah yes, Ultravox with that classic 80s synth greatness, but still with a highly unique edge to their music. Suggestions noted 😊
@@retroreactions.... Yes! They even did a German version of Mr X (Herr X). It sounds even more mysterious, even menacing.
@@79BlackRose Menacing...mysterious....pretty much guaranteed I'll like the song!
The song All in one day is from the U-VOX album from 1986
Rage in Eden, the perfection of Ultravox album....with midge ure
Will have to get to that album... there are a couple from it on my list, thanks for watching!
It is an incredible album and one I still play today. As I do with Vienna.

Yes!! I agree, synth heaven. 💙🎵🎶🎶
A great place to be!!!
For Sure!! 😀👼☁☁

I love Ultravox, more reactions please!

Sweet! They haven't disappointed... Nice reference you got, still need them on my channel! 80s for life! 😁

😮 You're back!!
Forgot that Midge was behind that Band Aid classic!
@@retroreactions.... I am, kind of. I was in hospital for 8 days. I am being readmitted tonight (two days after discharge).
First for me for these. I only know 2 Ultravox songs. The inevitable one and that one about being a hero or something. Forget the title ❤
I love Astradyne, the Vienna album was the very first vinyl album I was bought as a kid! My other favourite of theirs is 'One Small Day'. Subbed :)
More Kansas please!!! Leftoverture would be an amazing full album play.
Agreed! 😎👍 And from the album Point Of Know Return the last two songs "Nobody's Home" and "Hopelessly Human" would make a great pair for a Retro Reaction video! 🥰

The problem with Eagles is that they often issue copyright strikes. Many reactors steer clear as a result.
