    I found out a few weeks ago that Hello Games were working on their next big game, and I immediately started to dream about a fantasy based world done in the same style as NMS. It was like I dreamed the future, so to say I am stoked is putting it mildly!

    I'm optimistic since much of what was shown looked to be more polished elements taken for NMS. But since it is a small team of about 12 working on it, I'm keeping my expectations low as to what it will be at launch. I will definitely give it a try, though.

      agreed, but one thing i do know is that if on the off chance LNF does have a bad launch I know that Hello Games is the type of studio to dedicate themselves to fixing the game, just like they did with NMS!

    Thank you for comparing it to Minecraft. I was looking at this game as a possible true successor to it in a way. My friends and I play like nomads building a small camp/base and only staying for a short time before moving on. I bet this game will have that same feel. Cozy yet survival.

    My biggest concern is that a lot of people commenting on Light No Fire is that they are comparing it to RPGs. And I don't think it's going to be heavily quest driven with dungeons and progression that people expect from RPGs. I think, like NMS, it'll have some quests to introduce people to the world and gameplay and will have environmental lore, but will be more of a sandbox. Which I'm totally fine with, but worry that people's expectations might not match it.
    But we'll see!

    I love NMS. I have the utmost respect for the team at Hello Games. The biggest weakness I see in NMS is as you said the whole planet being one biome. And this is different. So looking forward to this.

  • @FatCandyProduction

    I was on the NMS hypetrain before, and we know how that went. I now like NMS alot tho. I am cautious with being super excited. I've just watched a video of Sean Murray 8 years ago, claiming you can fly into the blackness of space (you cant leave a solarsystem so no). He said planets were earth sized, while an average nms planet is roughly 300km across, not 12500km across (earth is big). He said there would be oceans and mountainranges. However I've never found an ocean more then 200m deep or a mountain anywhere near a kilometer.
    So for now I'll wait (with excitement, can't help myself) for more facts to be shown true.
    I want an actual earth sized planet. Actual 8km high mountainranges that would take a looooong time to climb, actual forests that stretch for miles and miles, oceans that are 10km deep, GrandCanyon like features in the terrain and actual diversity, not 10sqkm patches of single biome nms planets stitched together as "Multiple Biomes".

    I am exceedingly optimistic for LNF. I adored NMS at launch, and have been astonished again and again by HG's dedication to expanding and deepening the game. From the trailer, it looks as though LNF will build on the strengths of NMS - and, as you say, the strengths of HG as a team - and take them even further. Even setting aside story and RPG elements, the sandbox on offer here looks to be beyond compare.
    (I also want to play as humanoid otter, and ride a kingfisher.)

    I think both game will have a place in the heart of the viewers. I love fantasy games and this will fill that niche for me to play. I also have been extremely happy with NoMansSky and would be sad if Hello games did not continue to polish and develop that game as well. They have given back to the gamer constantly with this game and I hope that LightNoFire will be the same model that they are currently using with NMS.
    The future continues to look bright for Hello Games

  • @elinisguy

    Firstly, Let's be real. The moment Sean announced this game whole NMS community decided to buy it. :)
    Now, several important questions:
    -Will this game be as bad as NMS on lunch?
    - - No, because many of the systems will be taken from NMS (it is easy to guess and even see in the Trailer). So, it will be more polish game than NMS on lunch.
    - Will this game have problems?
    - - Absolutely, when Sean told that it is more challenging task than NMS ProcGen, he was hugely downplaying the level of difficulty. Yes, NMS universe is Huge and is no way the algorithm easy to develop. However, as Video mentioned most of the Planets have same Biome, see one place know whole planet.(To the credit of NMS, the real space is like that. Most of planets have mostly one biome. Look at Our star system, only planet with biome diversity is our dear Earth. Every other planet is pretty much one big biome with small insignificant changes).
    However, Light No Fire, decided to create multi-biome planet. Which means that biome should seamless transition into one another. There should be more big variety (11+) biomes. with all of them having different conditions and different local animals with their distinct appearances. This is in no way easy undertaking. And Can say that difficulty of these is in the League of its own.
    - Will the planet be big enough?
    - - if u look at NMS planets, you may think that one planet is not that big of a place, which is true for NMS because they aren't really that comparable to real planet sizes. You can even say they are small. However, real Earth size planet, Which yeah compare to rest of the Universe is small, but in reality for us it is so huge that most of humanity can't even phantom the size of earth. So, in no way can Earth sized planet can be called small for a humanoid. So, Yes planet will be more than big enough. The real question should be if it will have enough diversity so that all that traveling can be justified and rewarding.
    - What will be other problematic and challenging part?
    - - Seamless world and "One Server".
    Firstly: Seamless world without loading is in the game. And Yes we saw it and in Trailer it looked amazing, however what kind of FPS drops it will take will be shown only after game comes out. It is challenging, but according to the trailer manageable.
    Secondly: One Server. Sean told that everyone will be on the same planet, which means that it will be one server world, which doesn't really mean that it will only have one server, most likely the whole world will be cut into multitude of different servers, which will interact with each other in such a way that it will fill as if there is one server, which is possible. But this approach has a huge flaw. what if huge amount of people decided to meet up in one place? they effectively would be on the same server which will overload it and create huge amount of lag and most Likely crashes. So, It is a very worrying issue. Of course, for now it is not tag as MMO and only online co-op. So maybe they will go old fashion way of NMS and make only manage small amount of people in one server. But it is not what he said in the "interview", in it he implied One Huge MMO.
    So, my best advice is don't hope for MMO. It will 100% be online multiplayer but not MMO.
    - Will it be good/enjoyable on day one?
    - - Maybe, I won't say it won't. However, I believe it will become 50% better game on first major update. Why, because of the feedback. People often mention how Hello games never stopped working on NMS to make it better, which is 100% Truth and they deserve all the praise. But they sometimes forget that the reason why they managed to make NMS better wasn't only their dedication and integrity, but the community support too. Both NMS and LNF are huge games with many bugs, which Hello games can't detect for the shear size of it. So, the community feedback is integral for them. They will be getting feedback on bugs, on what people dislike about UI, about gameplay, etc. Of course, they won't be able to fix most of these things in one update. However, the first update will tackle major issue and gameplay feel. Which would improve the gaming experience. And afterwards they will slowly take care of other things and given even more feedback make the game even more enjoyable.
    TLDR. I am buying it on release :D

I just wish to have humanoid (skeleton no don't count) to battle into in the fantasy setting, i actually have it as one of the things that makes the game for me to be a hit or a hard pass and i just can't get invested being a monster & undead & boss killer when i think about my fantasy setting dream.

    I think Light No Fire will be better simply because the game will most likely have base building and multiplayer on day 1 of release rather than waiting months or years for those features to be added to the game lol
    Honestly, It would not surprise me at all if light no fire also ended up having a more appealing gameplay loop for a lot of players than no man sky curently does since I suspect that in order to gain resources players will have to go out and fight creatures they meet in the world. If that turns out to be the case, than right off the bat light no fire will win over people who were not big fans of no man sky rock shooting gameplay loop.

    I will get Light not Fire on day one for sure on consoles, crazy nms fan over here but I will say that for me there's only one aspect where Light no fire wins nms and is that lnf is a game design for next gen consoles and it shows. Nms is bound to last gen machines, yes we can play on pc and ps5 or xbox at 4k 60fps crazy graphics but the procedural generation of the universe is bound by the limits of the ps4/switch generation. So for me yes lnf surpass nms in procedural generation because of this but other than that a medieval fantasy game will never be for me as important as a scfi game. If I want medieval stuff i'm going for Dark Souls/Elden Ring/Bloodborne... from soft games... I'm a From Soft sucker so for me other fantasy games are not there because they lack From gameplay. But can we imagine for a second that hello games has in store in the future for us also a nms version that is not bound to last gen machines for the procedural generation? can we imagine how nms could be pushing lnf visuals ?

  • @amaradejo
    @amaradejo 9 месяцев назад

    I'm a fan of NMS and you raise really good points. I remain quite skeptical, though, for two reasons: first, I doubt Hello Games' ability to provide a stable multiplayer experience, because with NMS that rarely is the case. But with NMS it's not as troublesome, becauseit was born as a single-player experience and the multiplayer side doesn't add much. With Light No Fire... it's supposed to be a multiplayer experience from the get go. It's the first thing announced in the trailer!
    Second, as much as I enjoy playing NMS, I rarely return to it now because of the lack of gaming loops that are truly engaging. With the exception of some specific things such as Desolation, they rarely added these loops to the game in seven years. And when we get new ones (such as the harmonic camps), most of the tasks we have to do are quite repetitive and feel like chores.
    A giant Earth in a fantasy setting offers a lot of emergent gameplay by itself. But I'm REALLY hoping Hello Games can provide a stable multiplayer platform and more "game-y" elements to Light No Fire.

    I wonder if they will have 1 giant server for all systems to play on together or 3 giant servers for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. I'm excited for this game. That being said, it would be amazing if they released a game with a few settled solar systems that each have diverse planets that are large, that would give you a wide and deep game if they gave it a good story and missions. It would be a true masterpiece that people could play for years. Kind of a middle ground between light no fire and no man's sky.

    "every planet the same biome" mostly false. There are a lot of similarities sure, but look at the ice planets vs desert planets vs hexagonal planets. There is A LOT of variety. the hilly shapes can feel similar at times, but you still get unique rock formations, some are more open than others, certain parts of the same planet are full of water and tiny islands while the opposite end of the planet is a giant land mass, and everything in-between.
    I've been playing the hell out of No Man's Sky lately and yes, the biome variety is absolutely there.

    NMS was meant to be a single player exploration game where 9 out of 10 planets were dead and the other one would have life and give you a “woah” moment.. And that life was meant to be “endless” in terms of the procedural generation and possibilities of how it would look.. Obviously it didn’t turn out that way but what they’ve turned NMS into since is the complete opposite of what it was supposed to be.. Instead of turning it into what it was originally meant to be they bowed down to the modern day entitled gamer and turned it into some pathetic base building, quest having multiplayer nonsense to please the average person instead of the people they originally aimed it at.. Space geeks.

    I'm keeping my hype in check. It looks nice, but LNF will not be what I'm looking for if there's little to no dangerous, challenging things to do that rewards us with loot or progression. It'll need depth via content. It'll need to be deeper than "knee deep".

    I'm a day 1 player of No Man's Sky and I've always loved it. But what happened with that game left a small trauma. I will be very catious up until the release. It looks cool but we need to take everything we see and hear with a grain of salt until we see the game in action and we can properly analyse/critisize it.

    HG can't make fun gameplay loops, nms is not a fun game, its a good looking shallow experience. Desolation was the only time they ever nailed it. I'm not touching this because it will be boring just like NMS

    • @DRfuse9
      @DRfuse9 9 месяцев назад +2

      No it won’t, the problem with nms was quantity over quality and the combat was boring. Light no Fire is going to be quality over quantity. The combat seems to be better as well. One other important thing is that Light No Fire should be challenging, unlike nms which is very easy when it comes to basically anything.

    • @d00mnoodle62
      @d00mnoodle62 9 месяцев назад

      @@DRfuse9 they still want to populate an entire planet, that's still ridiculous in terms of quantity. I very much doubt that they can have a core gameplay loop that is fun enough to make you want to see it all. Combat may be better but that alone won't make the game worthwhile. HG just doesn't know how to do proper game design. They can add all the bells and whistles that make their games LOOK fun, but in the end it isn't actually engaging to play. The last campfire was their best game in this regard, because it felt rewarding at times.

    Though this looks to be the NMS engine on steroids (i.e. the core is the same), I'm hopeful if they can get some procedural dungeons in play in LNF, we may get to see that in NMS (dungeons in ruins, or better caverns, etc...). That's what I really miss ... the different planets are enough to give a different feel ... I don't *need* the different biomes on the same planet, but I'd like more in depth exploration while on a given planet.
    Beyond that, I'm getting this when it releases. Looks like my thing just as NMS was. Just sit there and have a single fleshed out world to wander around on.

  • @Eryhnar
    @Eryhnar 9 месяцев назад +4

    Plus the trailer shows a lot of content that has already been released in NMS so we know it is real content and how it will work. The flying is starship flight, the ocean looks like abyss, capes, the building system races etc. So it seems they will launch with a lot of the updates from NMS already. The thing that worries me is combat. Combat in NMS is very very basic and I have a feeling it will be the same here but I would love to be wrong, heck even if I'm not they'll probably fix it later, they actually listen. But I'm really glad that they not only learned the lessons but are including those updates in the base game instead of pulling a 'sims' on us.

    This will launch much smoother than NMS did. If you didn’t know this was a new game, I could see where someone could think this is a fantasy/medieval update for NMS. The engine is identical, the movements of the characters are identical, the foliage is identical.
    They’ve got the know how and experience now. As long as Sean keeps his mouth shut 😂, they’ll be fine.

    This game looks like it could become my forever game. But it's at a minimum, a year away and most likely more then that away from being launched. It's to far out for me to give it any hope. I have to see it to believe it. All of that pessimism aside though, the game looks freaking AWESOME!!!. It looks like I could get lost for years in that planet.

    ❤, one thing I noticed was that the flying animals are definitely not as fast as star ships so the loading in of objects in the world was much smoother as they flew out. The mountain though was like a low quality nms mountain I'm sure they will have better geographic terrain but I kinda wish Sean would have not said kilometer high mountain because it might just be a very long textured wrap of the out-of-bounds underground.😅
    I'm thrilled about playing as a bunny person 😄👍🏻.

      @@SozioTheRogue if it is truly an earth sized planet to traverse that *should* take months or more due to obstacles. (mountains, seas, rivers etc.) Not to mention you're probably on the menu in many of these locations. A map this size would be very crazy. It will probably put the NMS planets to shame I think. I've covered vast distances on foot / jet pack in NMS -- so this earth sized world is gonna have to be much bigger than that. Maybe 100 fold or more? And earth isn't even considered that big of a planet... like Jupiter as an example... 11 times the diameter of Earth.

      @@AustinAirCo Yeah, It would make for cool content. I wonder how deep the magic system could be and how you acquire magic. I'm thinking it'll be some kind of material that you craft in conjunction with a crystal to make specific magical spells or elements.

    The optimist in me thinks maybe NMS becomes even better eventually due to the work that goes into LNF and vice versa. It's clear that probably some of the same tech in both games is a benefit of the other. The king fisher or hummingbird likely can hover, mince that with the interceptor ships. The staffs probably a product of LNF just a difference in the mechanics of fantasy versus mechanical in NMS. If anything proved how big the Space genre is the numbers for Starfield aren't no accident. AND they've been working on NMS and LNF both simultaneously for the past 5 years, which is crazy to think about for me because I only started playing NMS in 2018. Then all those updates for NMS and likely a big one in 2024. I think we may see a 5.0 update to NMS next year maybe just before the launch of LNF. I think it's going to be like you say when LNF drops here it is, find your way. It's a survival game afterall so you're expected to learn as you go. If the singular planet of LNF teaches HG's better imagine what this might do to a void like area in NMS. These two titles may feed of one another for quite a while. Either way we'll be torn which one to play.

    Another thing to mention, although you kind of touched on it, is that a lot of the assets and mechanics are already built and tested. While I'm sure this game will add a lot of new things for itself, the foundational tech needed to make a lot of it work is already in NMS, and theyve been able to iterate on it over time. Mounts and building mechanics are two good examples.

    You can see the foundation of No Mans Sky in that trailer, from animations to camera movement, which means meaningless story-telling and very VERY limited NPC interactions, enemy AI and scripting.
    Unless they've been hard at work on NPC AI and scripting, I already know that I'm getting, and I'm not impressed. Video games have massively stagnated, as they chase graphical fidelity over fun gameplay mechanics and evolving NPC AI and immersion.
    I'll wait this one out, and only buy it on sale WAY after release, and only if the reviews are telling me the AI and world is groundbreaking.

    LNF is a game I've dreamed of since Hello Games turned NMS around. I'm still a little cautious about how good the game will be but since it's by Hello Games i feel like i can trust that it will be great. My only hope is that there will be a class system, I've wanted a survival crafter RPG since ark: survival evolved came out so being able to pick a class when you start or slowly flesh one out as you progress would be a dream come true. Classes like Knights, Clerics, Thieves, Assassins, Mages, Necromancers and stuff of the like would make this game an instant 11/10 for me!

    From what I'm seeing... this looks and acts like NMS's graphic engine. The camera movements, player focus, heck sub some space ships in place of dragons and birds... which come to think of it, many of those ships appear to have been based on various animals/insects... I personally will have to wait to see some real live gameplay. I don't typically do MMO games.... so I'm hoping this has SP mode, as does NMS.

    The reason why I never revisited NMS was the poor physics, the very assisted ship flying, cluttered economy system, and the emphasis on multiplayer and base building, instead of focusing on maki g exploration more intimate. Most of the updates were just adding content over a game that still severely needs an overhaul on all aspects.

    As a NMS day one player my prediction is this... 1 planet from atmosphere to core, fully functioning. It'll use the entire NMS universe code, it won't even be "scaled down" except visually. That'll be the catch. It'll be an entire universe on one planet.
