- The Phantom of the Opera has released a new trailer!
Led by Killian Donnelly in the titular role, taking on the role of Christine will be Lucy St Louis, with Rhys Whitfield playing Raoul. St Louis' casting marks the first time a black performer has played the role of Christine, in the West End or on Broadway.
Telling the story of a haunting presence in a French opera house, the piece is produced by Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group Ltd. Music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart, and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe.
The book is by Richard Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber, based on the novel Le Fantôme de l'Opera by Gaston Leroux, with orchestrations by David Cullen and Lloyd Webber. Musical supervision is by Simon Lee.
The cast also includes Saori Oda as Carlotta Giudicelli, Matt Harrop as Monsieur Firmin, Adam Linstead as Monsieur André, Greg Castiglioni as Ubaldo Piangi, Francesca Ellis as Madame Giry and Ellie Young as Meg Giry. At certain performances, the role of Christine will be played by Holly-Anne Hull.
They are joined by Leeroy Boone, Corina Clark, Edward Court, Lily De-La-Haye, Hywel Dowsell, Jemal Felix, Erin Flaherty, James Gant, Eilish Harmon-Beglan, Yukina Hasebe, Olivia Holland- Rose, Grace Hume, James Hume, Emma Harris, Donald Craig Manuel, Jonathan Milton, Janet Mooney, Tim Morgan, Beatrice Penny-Toure, Michael Robert-Lowe, Nikki Skinner, Tim Southgate, Ashley Stillburn, Manon Taris, Anouk Van Laake, Skye Weiss, Simon Whitaker and Karen Wilkinson.

I believe all the Christine masquerade costumes vary between productions

@@strawberrybunny1875 The color is too neon and retina burning for me. It's also too cheap looking when the sleeves should be gold studded with stars and lace, note the bare bodice without proper beading. West End Star princess used to be good in 2000s, sad to see what it has become now.

I just wish they would restore the orchestra. It is a travesty to cut back the orchestra on such a gorgeous production which because of the scale has made it so famous and beloved. I don’t get why a 27 person pit was reduced to 14 in favor of digital musicians. It’s not at all what made the musical so famous and beloved.
Extra kick in the gut is that they're using the 27 person recording in this trailer for the 14 person production....!
I am so pumped about this. The 25th anniversary of phantom of the opera was what made fall in love with the musical. Ahhh!!!! I'm really hoping that the four phantoms will be there.
Christine's emotion blooming at "all i ask of you" was perfect 😍😍😍
The new Christine sounds beautiful. Her wig design is very pretty on her with her sweet face. The particular colors on her Masquerade dress are also especially flattering on her.
I just wish she and all the other new cast members had the chance to perform with the full orchestra. The places where the recordings are new are pretty glaringly obvious. These skilled performers deserve better for all their efforts through the years, the audience deserves better for their continued love and support for the show, and the musicians deserve to have the pit full of their colleagues once again. There are other ways to cut costs on the big picture level with choices that make sense without sacrificing quality and at least one of the static companies (Broadway or West End) preserving the original show (excepting Björnson's second Masquerade design for Christine).
We all deserve the full orchestra.

That would only work if they had a full orchestra. It needs to be grand and sweeping. None of this digital reduction and cutting orchestra size…

Christine and Raoul looks so attractive like how Netflix hires unbelievable hot people in high school love movies, THAT level of attractive.

This phantom is giving me Michael Crawford vibes. It's 2021 and Phantom is still best musical in my heart. It all just fit together so well, the music, the costumes, the set design. One of the few musicals where the music enhances the plot instead of diminishing it.

True but with limitations they had they did a pretty good job but yeah it crashing to the stage is a major part of the musical even the original 1986 cast chandelier drop was amazing

I remember first seeing her/hearing her name being talked about when she was doing Peter Pan as Tiger Lilly at Hawth Theatre way back in 2009-loved her other work ever since.
I don't want to disappoint the actors/singers, but Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Booges were the best. I would love to see them perform. They are unforgettable! 🤩😍

There was a poc Belle in Beauty and the Beast in the 1990’s. Lucy got this part because of her massive talent, not her skin tone.

The masquerade costumes are beautiful. I mean other outfits too, but really like the masquerade costumes.
I wish Broadway would release the pro-shots of these plays. They don't because they think people won't want to spend money going to a show in New York or the Broadway On Tours. But I beg to differ. Yes, I would totally buy the pro-shots. But you can bet Killian Donnelly's sweet ass I'd spring for tickets for the tour shows. Hell, I watched a bootleg of Anastasia with my daughter and in two weeks we are going to see it in Little Rock! I've got the 25th anniversary of Les Mis and Phantom. And I've seen the tour of both and gotten merch from the tours! A live show just hits differently. There's an electricity to the air, a joy at seeing it live. No, if you ask me, they wouldn't lose money, they'd gain money. Consider it as whetting your audience's appetite for what is to come.

I went to see the show and Lucy was so amazing! Also with Rhys as Raoul it was the first time I've actually liked Raoul as a character - he portrayed him perfectly I think. I'll be honest though, I'm not 100% sure on Killian as the phantom.
