  • A new demo just recently dropped for Contra Operation Galuga, which I am happy to say plays and feels like a retro Contra game! The game preformances on both the Xbox series S/X and SteamDeck is incredibly good.
    It was just pure plain old school runnin and gunnin fun! That being said I do have some complaints about the overall game, and wanted to do a deep dive into what I liked and disliked about the Demo.

    The “fire spike” is a shield. It stops all projectiles. You shot it to the side but if you shot it upward it would have been a huge advantage in that boss fight.

      I realized that after making the video, I did not utilize it correctly. Though I still believe some of the overload functions are not good or maybe purely situational?
      I still think bullet visibility is an issue, the screen just becomes completely cluttered and so many of the colors “blur” together IMO.
      However at least the game is good and is actually fun. It could be a lot worse.

    I couldn’t care less about the graphics as the game is fun. I dl and beat the demo 3 times on SX and really enjoyed it. $40 is the nostalgia play for people (like me) of a certain age. I’ll wait for the inevitable sale 2 or 3 months from now.

      I dont mind the graphics, in fact I dont think look that bad. More so it is hard to be expected to pay 40 for this caliber of game.
      Thought the demo was a ton of fun and it def plays like a classic Contra game. Though I agree with you the price point is simply a play on our nostalgia.

  • @NeoKurow
    @NeoKurow 7 месяцев назад +1

    5:07 I think this boss was made like that on purpose. If you constantly attack the boss arms they will explode and then he enters rage mode and spam acid balls the rest of the fight. The easy to beat this boss is to attack him only when his arms are not covering this head. It takes more time but it works.

    • @flexin85
      @flexin85  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah i agree the fight is a lot easier if you focus on the head. However I still think bullet visibility is an issue, so much just blends into the background. Plus there is a lot of things in the foreground that blocks attacks, like explosions or the giant tail.

  • @Momoka7
    @Momoka7 7 месяцев назад +2

    Honestly, at the endboss I disliked that the stupid thing in the foreground that keeps moving with my character and covering it so I had trouble seeing what was going on and where my character was.
    As for the $40 ... someone datamined that there are 8 stages. 8.
    What I would have liked is a story mode like in Contra Hard Corps with branching paths and multiple endings. Maybe throw in as a new thing that stages have 2 exits. But $40 for 8 stages is a little bit steep, though the graphic is nice.
    Honestly, I won't buy it at $40, lol.

    • @flexin85
      @flexin85  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah it’s a steep price point for a title like this. Esp when other games like this are only 20/25.
      Yeah Konami has it listed the story mode will be 8 stages, which is not much.
      That being there is supposed to be a challenge mode with 30 stages. So I guess it depends on what those 30 challenge stages have to offer.

    • @Momoka7
      @Momoka7 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@flexin85Well, if those 30 challenge stages recreate things from earlier Contra games, I mainly talk about the 8bit and 16bit titles, as well as the WiiWare Contra Reborn and all the GameBoy iterations that where not simply copies like that GameBoy Advanced title was where they took parts of Contra 3 Snes and Contra Hard Corps.
      So if those 30 Challenge Stages recreate old boss fights but now in 3D graphic with some new graphic that would be something. But if all it is... is reusing the graphic of those said 8 stages with those same bosses, that maybe do new attacks... I don't know.
      Feels too shallow for $40, there are allot games on steam you can get for $40 that provide more gameplay then that.

    • @flexin85
      @flexin85  7 месяцев назад

      @@Momoka7 yeah for 40 they need to offer a lot more content then just 8 stages and 30 challenge stages they just are revamped of the same 8 levels.
      if the game offers some really cool unique challenges on top of the story missions, then maybe it will be worth $40. It is just hard to justify paying that price when Streets of Rage 4 and Shredders Revenge only went for $25.

    I don’t know why you are surprised the cheat code didn’t work on a demo. Far as screen clutter goes, that sounds like Contra and their clones like Metal slug. It takes focus and concentration to see through. But hey to each his own, I respect your opinion. Now far as 40 bucks goes, yeah that’s Konami punishing us for not like that abomination they called Contra some years ago. It could be worth it though if the eight levels are 2 in 1 like the demo. That was basically the 1st and 3rd level from Contra the original. Graphics looks good but I agree with ya, DK Tropical Freeze looks better than this and it came out 10yrs ago. Pretty much Konami giving the developers a low budget to work with.

    • @flexin85
      @flexin85  7 месяцев назад +1

      I didn’t really expect the code to work on a demo, just put in because I have seen a ton of people ask about it. Plus I myself wanted to see if the game would respond, which it did with the chime noise.
      As for the screen clutter I do agree in these games it has always been there however in that boss fight I think it was pretty extreme. ESP since they blend in with the background and his tail can block a large portion of the screen. Though I fully admit this could be a skill issue, I found just shooting his head and avoiding severing his arms made the fight significantly easier.
      As for the price… yeah it’s steep typical Konami being Konami. It’s just hard to justify the price tag being that high.
      However at least the game is good and fun to play. Even with my “complaints” the demo was a complete blast.

      @@flexin85I appreciate the attempt, at least you got a chime to acknowledge that you put it in right. hardcorps uprising played a remix of the og song for entering the code. I agree with you about the clutter on screen, hate that scorpion tail, bunch of artificial difficulty. hate the graphics also which is gonna age like spoiled milk. Gameplay doesn't feel as tight as the older games, loved shattered soldiers. Galuga reminds me of the contra returns mobile game. I actually bought rogue corps and beat it 😆 🤣 gutter trash

      Screen clutter yeah it gets bad esp on that boss fight. I feel as if some of the attacks blend incredily well with the back ground. Plus it does not help that friendly fire and enemy fire share the same color pallet. Not to mention so much how so much blocks the screen explosions/boss tail stuff like that.
      As for the graphics/gameplay I really do not mind them. , I found the demo really fun. Just for 40 bucks.... it needs to offer more IMO.

    • @flexin85
      @flexin85  7 месяцев назад

      its not the fact that 40 is alot of money in general. It is more that 40 is steep asking price for a game like this, esp when SoR4/Shredders Revenge/Double Dragon only went for 25. THis game is almost double those titles.

      the issues is not that the agme has 8 stages, after all you are correct most Konami games only had 8 stages. In fact the orginal CastleVania had 6 stages I believe.
