One minute in and I'm already awash in a sea of nostalgia. I used to live a block away from the Color Tile at 7100 W 79th Street. I could see it from my front door.
Wow! What a flashback The News, and those commercials!! I was in grade school when that cold front came through. But for a kid it was exciting, I was happy because all that snow wasn't going anywhere.
Hated the blizzard of ‘79. I had to get to work every day. The blizzard of ‘67 was much more fun. No school. We built forts in the alley out of the mountains of snow the plows left. Then we’d run home and defrost with moms home cooking. Heaven on earth!
I remember that well! Our thermometer at home showed -27 on one of those days. I had installed dual batteries in my van, and was one of the VERY few people out on the roads. Went to my girlfriends house and tried to jump start her and many of her neighbors cars, most with no luck. Moved to AZ in 1982. Now, I freeze at anything below 70. I've become a major wuss!
Wow! My dad always watched channel 7 news when we lived in Aurora. I remember the Big Freeze mostly because I have a recording from KQX mentioning the weather. The DJ said that the temperature was -26° in the middle of the afternoon and that he couldn't take it anymore. I also remember driving around on "square" tires until they warmed up and the flat spot defrosted.
models sure aren't too beautiful these days and it it aired on January 10th 1979 this was 4 days before the "blizzard of 79" and after the New Years Eve snowstorm (the weatherman mentioned a small storm coming, boy, was he wrong)
When did A&P go out of business? Also, the annoyed man in the LaChoy commercial is the same man who gets annoyed in the right guard commercials, when some guy on the other side of his medicine cabinet greets him in the morning. He would call for his wife, Mona, at the end. Those commercials are on RUclips.
He had incidences with a sports reporter by throwing paper at his face while he was presenting. He clashed with newspaper TV critic Gary Deeb who called his weather coverage “phony.” And Deeb liked Terry.
I was nearly seven months old when this aired, I don't remember a thing. My family doesn't have any outdoor pictures of those days either, but there are a couple of me as a toddler from the following winter when there was a pretty deep snowfall.
S&H Green Stamps! I remember as a kid my mother had several booklets of those.

Like all those Chicago suburb names in the opening.
Randy Hansen WPLG In Miami did that as well in the mid 70’s.
Why is Gary in there? Indiana?

So they were #1? Where they beat WBBM or tied with Channel 2? Terri Murphy who used to be on Hard Copy in the 90s?
Same Terri Murphy.

On the twilight zone when doing a few episodes by video after the director claps The slate it makes a beeping noise ?
5:30 -- Hear the archetypal Chicago accent, uttered by the court guard.
Thank god I moved away from Chicago in the mid 80's.
