Agreed. The intro (and it's more like 18 seconds)! The strings punctuated with the bass, and coaxed along by the horns is magical, practically mystical for me! Those luscious strings throughout the song. OMG!
I am 75 and everybody rocked this song. I thought of it as the Black National Anthem. But everyone loved the vibe of this song...including me and I am white as snow.
I agree with you 100%. However, unfortunately, it seems DJs don't. I have requested this song many times at Discos and Nightclubs, but DJs always say they won't play it because it's too old !!!☹
We lived across the street from Mr. & Mrs.Jones. On New Year's Day my folks had our street's party at the house. Dad had memorized this song and started singing it while it played. He grabbed Mrs. Jones and started dancing with her, everybody started clapping and laughing. It's one of my best memories.
This was out in the late Spring and Summer of 1979 in the UK. Straight onto the dance floor as soon as the opening few bars started playing. Utter class timeless and musical perfection xxxxx
Why is breaking, cabbage patch, peewee Herman, electric slide..etc considered "stupid twine"? Don't get me wrong, that's one of my jazz, especially the remix.
Just one of the songs they would play when you went out in the 1970s, and had a really good night out dancing with the babes. Another time, another world 😎
