Hey Aaliyah! DID YOU KNOW: Freddie Mercury recorded an album of OPERA… “Barcelona” …with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé! (Freddie also co-wrote the album.) Also a FACT: Freddie & Montserrat were the FIRST professional musicians from completely different music genres, to collaborate and record an entire album with someone from another music genre. (When their “Barcelona” album was released, Pavarotti actually made fun of it and called it “The dumbing down of opera”. But then, when the album was so well-received… Only a couple years later, he started doing his own “Pavarotti & Friends” project!)😆
Hah snap! I was just grooving to the album "The Game" (on which the studio version of this song appears) before firing up RUclips and seeing your video! I bought the LP in 1980 on the strength of this song and have been a diehard Queen fan ever since. You are so correct that Freddie was a versatile singer. If you want to hear him do a song in falsetto, check out "Cool Cat" from the much maligned "Hot Space" album; if you want to hear him sing really nastily, check out "Death on Two Legs" from "A Night at the Opera", where he spews bile at a former Queen manager (perhaps the quintessential diss track). I also loved the expression on your face when Brian May played that wicked guitar part near the end of the song! (I have often made that face myself when listening to his brilliant guitar work on various Queen records.)
The bass-line is really the "star" of that song. So damn funky. BTW, for me as a German it's funny that the German term "Sprechstimme" is used internationally. It not even something that's hard to translate, like "Zeitgeist", Kindergarten" or "Wanderlust", it just translates to "talking voice". 😀
When I was a Kid they used to play this a lot On most of the rides At our Local Carnival😊🤔…Someone back then may have had a slightly Dark Sense of Humor…🤣I Was Koo with it..
You should react to Freddie Mercury's duet with the Spanish Opera Soprano, Montserrat Caballé performing the song "Barcelona" - ruclips.net/video/Y1fiOJDXA-E/видео.html . You won't be disappointed!
I was in basic training at Lackland Air Force Base when this came out. The Iranian Hostage situation was in full swing, we had Jimmy Carter as president and the TV in the day room was out. Everyone was saying we're going to war when Reagan got elected and the only song I heard that whole time was "Another One Bites the Dust" LOL 😲
Speaking as a South Asian, just have to say, once I learned FM was Indian, suddenly his body and the way he moved made sense. (yes even straight Indian men move like that).
John Deacon (bass) of Queen wrote this 1980 disco song that went to #1 on the charts worldwide... Deacon was the 'quiet guy' in Queen but contributed some great songs, like - "I want to break free"... "You're my best friend"... Deacon & Freddie Mercury were largely responsible for their 1981 'pop' album "Hot space" which became a commercial disappointment, unfortunately... Deacon's bassline in the song 'Under pressure'... is one of the most memorable in rock music (and rap! 😂) After Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991, John Deacon eventually walked away from Queen and retired from the music industry... He lives quietly in the UK today.
Hi Aaliyah, I remember the first time I heard Queen in the 1970s, way before you were a glimmer in your parents eyes 😁, sorry that sounded wrong, it was like the scene in Waynes World where they were listening to Bohemian Rhapsody 😂
Good choice. Might seem like it's a straight forward song to sing, but try putting the aggression and power into those higher notes. Later on in his live career he'd lower the key noticeably. See wembley for example in 86
One of the great Pop music singers.

YES QUEEN IS SUCH AN IONIC BAND .....GREAT FREDDY MERCURY PERFORMANCE AS SLWAYS

Classic Queen song. No doubt the smartest band ever to take the stage. Great choice for a song reaction and, as always, great reaction.
Thank you so much Mr. Julian🌺
