    - You're welcome, glad the video was helpful. In your case, I would use the AB out on the rear panel as your recording feed - this output in its default configuration is a copy of the main LR output and will include all the effects. Start with the level knob at the 0dB setting (about 2 o'clock) and adjust the tascam input levels to avoid clipping. The AB output was designed with this in mind and is a better solution than using the AUX sends.

    - Thanks for the question. You would connect the 'tape out' or 'record out' of your sounds board to the input of the cd recorder. The output of the recorder can either be connected to the 'tape in' of your board or to a stereo input channel as you would connect any other stereo source.

    - Yes, once you press stop you can listen back to the recordings as you would on a normal CD player, but only on this recorder - if you try to play the disc back somewhere else without finalising it it will appear blank. Thanks for the question.

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  12 лет назад

    - Which mixer are you planning to buy?

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - I'm sorry but we do not use the text function at our church - it's easier to just write directly onto the CDs themselves. I suggest you consult the user manual which is available online at the Tascam website. Thank you for the question, and Merry Christmas!

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - Yes that must be pretty stressful... What do you mean by 'in between' service? Did you actually mean to say in the middle of the service, during the sermon? Is the unit recording when this happens, or is it in record pause mode? What happens if you try and reload the disc that has been ejected and resume the recording?

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - This error message indicates that the digital input has been selected, but that no signal or an incorrect signal is present at that input. If you normally use the analog inputs (ie the red and white RCA connectors on the back) the input selection probably got changed by mistake, and you should change it back by pressing the input select key.

    Hi there is the difference of functions between Tascam cd-rw901mk2 and
    Tascam cd-rw900mk2 excluding the inputs and outputs from the back of the
    recorder thank you

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - That suggest that your problem may be upstream of the recorder, ie signal from your mixer is not getting to the inputs. Also check to see that the level knobs on the right side of the unit are turned up to at least 12 o'clock.

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - What do you mean by 'skip'? Do you mean create a new track? Thanks.

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - Yes that's right. However to simplify things you may wish to consider using your mixer's tape/record out so that you don't have to turn up all the individual channel knobs.

    - Yes, that mixer has plenty of 1/4" inputs - four mono and two stereo. BTW if you are buying that mixer you can record directly to a computer so you may wish to consider that as an alternative to buying the CD recorder. All the best with your music!

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  12 лет назад

    - If you do not press anything during record it should just create one long track. Are you saying that it creates tracks by itself during the recording? If so your unit may be faulty...

    You were very kind to help solve my feedback problem, I am learning but have another question. How can I balance the input to the recorder, some mic's are louder on the recording than others but the recorder doesn't have it's own channel on the board. Thanks Bill.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  10 лет назад +2

      - That will always be an issue with live recordings - what you hear on the CD is just the output of the mixer but what you hear with your ears is that plus the live acoustic sound of the source that you are recording.
      The only solution to this is to create a separate mix to send to the recorder - this can be done by connecting the recorder to an aux send rather than to the LR output of the mixer. Monitor the aux send on headphones, and adjust the sends accordingly until you have a balanced mix going to the recorder. Typically in a live setting you will need a second person to do this while the primary engineer takes care of the live mix.

  • @nflyte
    @nflyte 9 лет назад

    Hello, having a problem with an echo while talking in to the unit. Tried to shut of the monitor as per directions but after the echo is still there. Is there a step I'm missing . I am using headphones from the headphone out jack.I took out the disc and hit record. It showed monitor and when I hit stop it went back to No Disc. I reloaded the disc and it went to blank disc . when I hit record I got usual sound but with an echo. I am using the analog inputs fed from the main out of a XENYX 802 mixer. If I monitor through the mixer it is fine. I haven't recorded yet but will try it now.Any suggestions and thank you in advance.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      John Hope I think the echo and the disc recognition are two separate issues. Are the outputs of your recorder connected to anything?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  6 лет назад

      I suggest using a compressor or limiter to reduce the dynamic range of the signal going to the compressor and prevent the input from distorting.

  • @surfand1903
    @surfand1903 11 лет назад

    If I am using aux send 1 at my mixing board to send to the tascam, do I just need to make sure all my aux 1 knobs are turned up for each input and the master aux 1 knob is turned up to make sure signal is sent?

  • @cocob9761

    I currently work with this recorder and it's set up for analog recording. It was working fine. I'm now running into an issue with the recording signal. The right signal is no longer showing and when you hear the recording the sound is only coming out of the left speaker/side. I ran into this problem once, but figured out the cable needed to be replaced. Unfortunately I'm running into the same issue, but it's not the cable which I change out again and I changed out the adapter too. The input is set for 3 o'clock for left & right. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help!!

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад +1

      Coco B The first thing I would try is to use some contact cleaner on all of the connectors involved, both the cable as well as on your mixer and recorder. Use the type that evaporates completely after use and does not leave any residue. Let me know if this helps.

    Hi Bruno - thanks for the response. I am not sure there is a way to reduce the input volume (gain) on the recorder. Here is the Model Sony ICD PX-720, if I remember correctly. Sorry I just took it to church to set up for Sunday's service. I do lower the default volume from 22 to 15 or so for my own montoring, but it does not change to input level as much as I can tell.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      Dennis Neuhaus I had a look at the manual for your recorder online and yes it appears that it is designed to accept only microphone level external signals. What you need is some sort of line to mic level adapter, very much like the one reviewed in my latest video: ruclips.net/video/OEihXbJ5eeo/видео.html A passive alternative would be the Beachtek DXA-2T: beachtek.com/dxa-2t/ These adapters are useful to have around because they can be used on both audio recorders as well as video cameras, anywhere you need to reduce a balanced line level signal to an unbalanced mic level signal.

    • @dennisneuhaus2607
      @dennisneuhaus2607 9 лет назад

      GLB Productions Thanks Bruno, the video was very informative. I am not sure this product works with the Peavey 20USB board ( I should say as a novice I don't the connections). The Mixer has RCA L/R outputs for recording (which runs to our tape deck). I usually use RCA to 3.5 mm (1/8") for my recorder. I know what I need, I am having a problem finding an Attenuation box to decrease each [channel] for the input to the digital recorder. I thought you were on to something with your suggestion. Is there a solution to the RCA connector with the product you suggested?

    • @dennisneuhaus2607
      @dennisneuhaus2607 9 лет назад

      Dennis Neuhaus I think I missed something in the video as I watched it again as well as the other link, I see that the Mixer would be plugged into the "AUX" in [mono], but then would become stereo [kinda]. This looks like it would work for my situation and answer another question I had as well. I really love your channel and the thoroughness of your productions in view and narration. You have a true gift for this work. Thank you!

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      Dennis Neuhaus The DXA-HDV is designed for use with XLR connectors - if you are using the mixer's RCA output and plugging into the AUX in connector the signal would become either mono or dual mono, depending on the adapter's mono-stereo switch setting. So this is not an ideal solution for you as any stereo information would be lost.
      Have you ever considered using the USB output feature on your mixer to record with? It would eliminate the current level matching issues that you are having, as well as the need to manually transfer the file from your recorder onto a computer.

    - Ah yes, that happens sometimes. Is the output of your CD recorder connected to your mixer? If so make sure that channel to which it is connected is turned down all the way or muted, otherwise you have a feedback loop between the mixer and recorder.

  • @davidsmalley9787
    @davidsmalley9787 8 лет назад

    On this recorder, how do you make it automatically switch to another section (I'm drawing a blank on what it's called). You got it up to a 5 on the video. Every time the recording is stopped or paused and restarted, it goes up a number. It talks about it in the owners manual but I don't understand it.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      Page 26 of the owner's manual under automatic track division. Personally I never use this because I always want to control where the track divisions are. The machine also creates a new track when you press pause during recording.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      Craig Miller You can but if the sermon is more than 80 mins it will still not fit on a single CD. If your sermons are that long I suggest going to a computer-based system that records in MP3 or WAV rather than cassettes. That way you can either burn CDs or distribute the recording online.

    am usings another cd player with 1/4 inch standard audio cords into the back of the 900. I play the cd from deck one . When the first track is over and switches to track two the 900 doesnt
    reconize the space and just continues to record all the tracks onto one ..I have to manually copy one track at a time onto the 900 to make an exact duplicate cd..I've had cd players before thatchange automatically. I dont want to fill my lap top with all this cd material just to make copies.

    Thanks for the video. I am researching a recorder for my church. There appears to be not editing of the CD is that correct? I have recorded some services via my Sony personal portable recorder which came with some editing software so I can put tracks together for burning to a CD. Does this recorder have "Minute Track"? Overall, how easy is it to use?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      Dennis Neuhaus Correct, this is a relatively simple unit and the user interface is not designed for editing - if you need to do that you should record into some sort of computer-based system.
      It's very easy to use once you know how - starting recording is a matter of loading the disc and pressing two buttons.
      What do you mean by 'minute track'? A way of keeping track of how many minutes you have left?

    • @dennisneuhaus2607
      @dennisneuhaus2607 9 лет назад

      GLB Productions I came across a program or software which offered Minute Track. For what I understand it some how encodes the CD so, instead of Tracks, it encodes a Minute notation which allows for jumping within the CD to specific locations. There is no track breaks as normal CD's have, the recording is continual. I am not sure if this was ever a popular feature. Speaking of recording to an external device, you appear to be very Tech Savvy, I was using my Sony Digital Recorder to record the service which I edited at home on my computer; I have a problem with too hot of a signal from the Peavey 20USB mixer to the recorder, there is no way to adjust this on the mixer because the output is controlled by the Main Volume Level (FOH), do you know of a product that would work as an Attenuator (Gain Controller)? the Jack out is RCA L-R from the mixer and 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo input to the Recorder.

      Dennis Neuhaus The easiest solution in your case would be to simply reduce the input level on your Sony Digital recorder. Do you know how to do this? If not please let me know the model number of the recorder and I will try to find out for you.

    Thank you very much for your video explaining how to operate the Tascam CD recorder. The operating manual was next to worthless as it was written for design engineers not average Joes. Thanks again and may God bless you...

    - If there is nothing at all on the display it has either failed or somehow become disconnected internally. I suggest you take the unit to your closest Tascam dealer for inspection and repair if possible.

    I use this unit to record services at our church, we purchased it a couple of years ago and used it for successfully. During our recent remodel, we replaced our cable system and moved the amps up front and away from the board. I believe the unit is hooked up identically to the way it was when it worked and is typical of the way you have yours but it now feeds back when I try to increase the recording level to the previous point. Would you have any suggestions for troubleshooting?
    Thanks,
    Bill.

      - Hi Bill, it sounds like you have an electronic feedback loop. Trace the wiring from the output of the recorder and see where it plugs into the mixer. Make sure that particular channel is muted or turned all the way down when the recorder is in record or record pause mode, because otherwise you are creating a feedback loop between the recorder and mixer. Let me know if this solves your problem :)

      I'm guessing you are correct, I didn't check the obvious, someone may have helped me out and adjusted the settings! Thanks!

      - You're welcome, hope it turns out to be correct. Ideally, a CD recorder should not be used for live CD playback because of the possibility of this issue occurring. CD playback should be handled by a separate, dedicated machine and the content on the CD recorder checked using headphones.

    Can the recorder be connected directly to a Avid pro tools interface for finalizing a full length album and is it use for cd burning to the public or only master copies? Thanks

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  10 лет назад

      Yung Gunzman This recorder has both analog and digital inputs (SPDIF) so yes you could connect it to a ProTools interface if you wanted to. However I'm not sure what advantage you would gain from this additional step, as opposed to burning and finalising the disc on your computer.
      We use this unit to record the master copy only - we have a separate CD duplicator to produce sale copies.
