    I grew up making these (with the cream of tarter) with mint chocolate chips, and or toasted almonds. We called them surprise meringues. I love them. YUMMY!

  • @denisenoble4010

    I love meringues, they were part of every party food my mum would make, every family get together, she always cooked them on a low heat, 130 or 140 mx for about an hour, hour and a half and they always came out white, try a lower oven temp to keep their colour. Only argument we had with her was she would turn the heat off but leave in the oven to really dry them to be super crunchy. We, my nephew and I liked them crunchy on the outside chewy on the inside, so if she cooked them on the day, we would try and wedge the oven door open to let the heat out. She would get mad at us but as it wà us who ate them more than anyone, we liked the sticky. Also keeping any leftovers in an airtight container would keep them in perfect condition. Question. How do they last so long in your house haha. Thanks for sharing. Love your channel ❤️ 😊

    I do freeze them for long storage & for every day storage (yes keeping them in an air tight double freezer bag) kept in the refrigerator. They taste wonderful.
    Thank you for your mint meringue recipe - it appears that they will be very similar to the old Whitman peppermint balls. Can't wait to try this.
    Thank you again.

    These look delicious! I can't wait to make them! Can I sprinkle edible glitter on them before baking, or should I do that afterwards? It's the fine edible glitter that you can put in drinks.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  8 месяцев назад

      The glitter won't stick afterwards, so I would try doing it before. I'm not sure if the small glitter will melt or not, I haven't tried that.

    Thank you for showing how to make these. I’ve always been intimidated to try these. Does the rack you used in the Ninja Foodi come with it or is it purchased separately? I love your channel. You explain each step of a recipe so well.

      Thank you so much! The rack I used is the dehydrating rack and it doesn't come with the Foodi. Here is the one Ninja sells (affiliate link): rstyle.me/+E7Hr97ZCjFzW5aQ3w4ErhQ

    Can they be baked in an oven? If so what are the baking instructions.

    • @valerief1231
      @valerief1231 8 месяцев назад +1

      My mom always baked these in the oven at 175°f for 4 hours, she then would put a wooden spoon between the door and oven to prop it open and let them cool. Sure wish she was here, I miss her Christmas cookie!

      @@valerief1231 Thank you for that explanation. I was surfing the comments for exactly this answer. 😊

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, they can be baked in the oven at the same temperature, but they do get a little darker. You may want to only bake them for 2 hours and then leave them in the oven with the door closed for another 4-6 hours or overnight.

  • @kellyzarek4073
    @kellyzarek4073 8 месяцев назад +2

    If you use a regular oven, do you shut heat off after cooking time and leave in oven overnight like dehydrator or something else? And is cooking time the same?

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, I did them exactly the same way in the oven at the same temperature and left them in there overnight. They did get a tad bit darker, but not much. You could also try 175F for 2-3 hours and then let them sit. If your oven doesn't go lower than 200F, then definitely cut the time back to about 90 minutes and then let them sit in the oven with it off.

    Is merengue power acceptable as an egg white substitute?

  • @Reziac
    @Reziac 8 месяцев назад +1

    Those are sure pretty :) Dehydrating them is a really good idea, probably helps keep them tender too.
    You actually can beat whole eggs up to stiff peaks (with brown sugar no less!) but it takes a lot longer, and the texture is different, it's not like meringue at all. But it sure is tasty. ;)

    Can you use powdered egg whites?

  • @matthewkramer6550
    @matthewkramer6550 8 месяцев назад

    How long should I do the bake time if my only dehydrator can only go as hot as 155

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  8 месяцев назад

      I would think 6 hours and then let them sit in the dehydrator overnight or at least another 4-6 hours.
