I am 70. I went from being a stay at home mom/ volunteer to being elected and ended up vice Mayor of my town. Needless to say, my wardrobe had to change. I was never really comfortable. I am retiring in Nov and looking forward to getting back to me.

I’m 32 but I found this really helpful. I felt like I had a signature style in my late teens and early twenties but around 24-27 I gained weight and kind of lost my desire to care about what I looked like. Or I felt I couldn’t care about my style or clothes unless I got back to my previous size, which was not sustainable for me. I’m already finding that my 30s feel better than my 20s and I really have found myself again. It’s so important to embrace the skin you’re in!

I turned 52 in July, and I had the underneath half of my hair lightened and dyed the most beautiful purple. It’s a peek-a-boo effect and I LOVE IT!!!!💜 💜

You looked radiant in that blue dress Jenn! I am SO happy that you are better (your energy is WAY up from last week)! I can tell that the vacay did you a world of good! We all go through times that are darker than others and I am so glad you are better!🤗

I always think it’s important to acknowledge that we all go through highs and lows and both are valuable. Last week I was really grieving my son moving out and that’s of course going to show - the good and the bad are both part of a joyful life!

You are so right about makeup being ageing. Your face looks so fresh and you look comfortable and confident in your own skin. Too much makeup looks like we are insecure and trying too hard. Dyed hair is ageing too. Dark hair can look so harsh as our skin and eyes fade. As we age we need lighter hair or at least highlights. Growing in your natural hair can end up being astonishingly lovely as it complements our colouring.

I have found that accepting my body where it is means I choose things that fit me better which adds to my self confidence too. Love especially that you've shown sometimes we experience times of doubt before we find what is right for us, in fashion and other things too!

Jen Good for you. I'm 70 , just and I just got my ears pierced again ( I let them close up when I turned 50). At that time I thought it was drawing to much attention to my face. I care about how I appear for both myself and my husband. I try not to get nutty about it, but I still buy new clothes and try new things. You need to figure out what look you want. The trick has been, for me, to find the right fit, as you say your body changes. They don't make a lot of stylish clothing for the elderly. I've found that I would rather spend more on fewer clothes than have a lot of clothing that doesn't look that great.

I really am enjoying your videos and am now catching up on some older ones I haven’t seen.
I am a fellow Gen X-er who is also enjoying her opportunity to explore her style.
I was raised in a fairly conservative Christian household, where an interest in fashion and beauty was not encouraged, because it was “worldly” or “vain”. As I have gotten older and started to decide what my faith actually means to me (Also discovering the Bema podcast, which encourages looking at the Bible from a Jewish perspective and asking questions as one reads it (imagine that!) something never even suggested in my household) it’s been good for me to accept and embrace that there’s nothing sinful about an interest in aesthetics and wanting to feel beautiful, and to OWN my style, my creativity, and my space in this world, unapologetically. It’s been so good for me.
That was a rabbit hole train of thought, but I wanted to say thanks for this video. I really love your approach to many things.

Such a good video. You have touched about every muscle of getting older and embracing it with grace. No questions, changes and evolving into our new life styles, and accepting who we are and that new person that we see as we look into that mirror every day going forward. I will be turning 70 next month, and I can tell you that I completely understand what you are sharing. Of course, your are much younger than I am but will be in my shoes one day. I have always been very fashionable not trendy and my style has always been, kind of a sophisticated polished style. I had four children and twin boys just like you, so believe me, I too have those road signs in my body from motherhood that can only be repaired with surgery, which if I had the money I would, but I rather spend that money on traveling! but just like you say, we learn how to camouflage those areas affected my the storm of motherhood. I was always skinny but getting older, menopause and partial hysterectomy have completely changed so many things. I am struggling with weight and in the process of having this corrected. I am determined not to let these things put me in a self imposed category that unfortunately some women put themselves into. Yes! we can be pretty, fashionable, fun, desirable and a heck of a storm, if we so desire, but like you said, we need to embrace the new changes that getting older brings into our lives with grace and determination. I read once that "Getting old is not for sissies" and it the absolute truth!❤🥰

I would love to have a style. Right now my "style" is buy whatever I can find that fits. I'll try on 20 items and /maybe/ one will fit. There's a dead zone for sizing that falls between what the regular stores carry and what the plus size stores carry.

Something I forgot when commenting on your menopause video: true, there were not, and still are not any symptoms. Except for one. Suddenly, at 52, my body felt very strange to me, as if nothing I wore was right. Can't explain it. So this video is spot on. We have to find a new normal for fashion. Because our bodies ARE different. Thanks, Jen

Amen sister! Thank you for articulating this so beautifully! I’m 41 and had to re-discover who I am and what I like apart from my community and social media influences. They appeared to speak so loudly to me that I lost myself in the shuffle. I actually had to “go on a date with myself” and browse shops, try on pieces, watch videos, apply certain celebrity style pieces and see if they work with my body. Jen, your absolutely right! Not everything we see online will translate for our body, height, weight, stature. So get out there girls and go play!!!
Additionally, having hashimoto and feeling perimenopausal and having a college kid and one about to leave, my world feels slightly out of focus. I’m trying to hard to keep it together and frankly , no one is talking about this!! Except you Jen!!! Much appreciated sister!

Wonderful video. I'm 75 and have fought with my curly, coarse hair for many years. And it's drier now. I get it straightened a few times a year because it gets unmanageable and I'm not handy with my hair. A few years ago I went blonde because I had so much gray and really like the look. Gray is not for me. Changed the cut as well. I feel so much better. Now I have to work on my wardrobe. Since I'm retired, what I wear on a daily basis has changed. I've watched Erin Busbee for years and she's great (except her tastes are expensive) but always has practical advice. Love her. I agree that if you put yourself together every day, you'll feel better. Love your videos all the time!

I just turned 40; during the time of “The Great Unpleasantness” - Jen Lefforge I found Amazon pocket dresses and leggings - I work at a church as their office manager and also substitute teach pre-K-8th grade with the little ones I wear character shirts on their fun days but pocket dresses and leggings in all styles and colors, I don’t match patterns but I do solids with prints! Who knows if it’s in style 100% but - at work it’s comfy and I can run when I need to! Thank you Jen for another great video! All I wear for make up is roll on glitter on my cheeks in a pink tone lol!

So encouraging. I do not think you have to be of a certain age to relate to this. Different phases of our lives mean we grow and change. I have recently moved and it has given me the opportunity to go through my own wardrobe and I got rid of a lot (like extreme Kon Mari). Even if I fit into an item of clothing, I definitely don’t feel good about how I look (especially after having twins ). What I realized is that it is not about how I look but more about how I feel, and that feeling is what I miss. It is so good to hear your perspective. To hear something that is not about how to hide what you hate, but to embrace change as an opportunity. Thank you.

What a great outlook, you are such an inspiration. I may be 34, but I found this so helpful. I was just talking about how I have no idea where to shop, because although I'm only a few pounds over what I was when I got pregnant, my body is totally different and I don't have the time nor do I want to try to make my body look like it did before. I feel my makeup is really the only thing I have changed and learned to love. My hair and style....I need to figure out but this really helps give me a jumping off point. I want to be confident and comfortable in my skin again, so my daughter can see what that looks like. Thank you for always being so honest. 💓

I will be 40 in a month. I’ve been plus size my whole life and plus size clothing before, really up to just a few years ago, was “granny attire”. So at 16 I was either in oversized, I’ll fitting clothes or I found something that fit me and had old lady prints. Now we have better options for us big girls. It with body positivity, I feel some of the options are a little more revealing. Am I still not as comfortable in my body as I thought or do I think that the low cleavage and super short shorts/tight pants is for your 20 year olds? I still haven’t found the right grove for my style. My style icons are Kelly Clarkson and Melissa McCartney for plus size, rather than a Lizzo. Also…Jennifer Lopez style vs Jennifer Garner? Hmmmm, controversial comparison (hehehehe, just kidding).
Oh, and the menopause slum…I wonder if it’s a menopause slump or it is the “come down” after 2 years of heightened emotions and we are now feeling the aftermath (or still going through it).
Hair and the grey and white strands…uuuugggghhhhh I’m just getting to the point where I can’t anymore. I wish I was comfortable enough to just cut it all off…the Jaime Lee Curtis cut just looks so. Icy simpler

Y’all have a beautiful self possession, maturity, and assurance that is mind blowingly sexy and absolutely stunning! The faces and bodies of older women are absolutely beautiful and perfect, camouflage or not. Those softer places are delightful and those lines tell stories I wanna hear! Anyone who isn’t about women over 40 is missing out! Just wanted to share as a lady lovin lady. When I’m at the beach, forget those kids under 30…. I love fashion but the fashion for an ultra tall woman (pants inseam is 36") and I am not a size 10 well there is no fashion unless I am will to pay hundreds of dollars for one outfit. I have to pay $150 for one pair of slacks for work. So when I find something it has to be good quality and not dated so I can wear it for years. Clothing shopping as a tall woman is very depressing.
