So here’s a funny story from this episode. Sid Philips (the one they sang happy birthday to in an earlier episode) can be seen signing a contract with a girls father for the terms of his relationship with her, the idea being they’d get married one day. Sid never ended up marrying his Aussie girlfriend as he never returned to Australia. Decades after the war Sid got a letter from his Aussie girlfriend that said she and her family wanted to come to the US and see him and his family. And so they did. During the visit the girlfriend’s son met Sid’s daughter. The two of them would eventually marry. It’s crazy how love works sometimes.

Speaking of Australia! It’s ANZAC day for them, so shoutout to our Aussie allies and the sacrifices their men did to help win the war.
    Lest we forget. 🥀🥀

The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award in the US military, equivalent to the Victoria Cross, and very infrequently awarded. The MOH (as it is known) entitles the wearer to be saluted by every rank in the military (including 5 Star Generals and Admirals) regardless of the rank of the MOH recipient as a sign of the deep respect given to the holders. There are bravery awards like the Bronze and Silver Stars, Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, and then there is the MOH (in a class by itself)

It’s just insane how different the war in Europe was from the fighting in the pacific. Just a brutal slaughter the entire time. Those marines really suffered. At least they got reprieve like this sometimes

At least the Marines in the Pacific got to 'dispose' of enemy POWs without worrying about the Geneva convention. I'm sure that made things much simpler.

As a Marine vet, I just want to thank you again for watching The Pacific. Definitely a different war than Europe.

This is why, to this very day, the 1st Marine Division's official march is "Waltzing Matilda".

I was in the formation like that once upon a time, I remember trying to stand up straight and failing miserably! LOL 😂😅
Being awarded the Medal of Honor is perhaps one of the greatest accomplishments any servicemen can receive during his time in the military. However it can be a double-edged sword, trust me

I just watched all three episodes, thank you for watching both Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Just so you know for future, the Army has Medics, the Marine Corps has Navy Corpsman (pronounced kôrz′mən). Back in WWII the Rate (Navy Job) was actually Pharmacist Mate. A Pharmacist Mate became a Corpsman when they went through Fleet Corpsman school and was integrated into the Marines. My Dad enlisted for six years, to be a Pharmacist Mate in the Navy in September 1941. His recruiter told him he would go to Boot Camp in San Diego California, then to Pharmacist Mate school at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. Dad Reported to school on 6 December 1941. Because of the Japanese attack the next morning, upon completion of school he was sent to Naval Hospital Pearl Harbor till 1944. In 1944 he was sent back to San Diego for Fleet Corpsman school and was integrated into the 3rd Marine Battalion and was in the Battle of Okinawa. Since his enlistment went through 1947 he was then sent to be with the first Occupation Force into Mainland Japan. Dad hardly talked about is time in the Navy. He only ever talked about his time in Pearl Harbor and in Japan. I never know till years after his death about his time with the Marines in the Battle of Okinawa.
