While in Australia Leckie did have a fling a girl named Stella. There was one major change they made for the show for the two of them and that was their reason for breaking up. In reality Stella was already married and her husband was off fighting in North Africa. The change was likely to make it so the audience didn’t hate her for being a cheater.
There’s also a cute little love story not fully told in this episode. Sid Philips can be seen signing a marriage contract with his girlfriend’s father (he’s the one talking about baseball towards the end) Sid never ended up marrying his Aussie girlfriend as he never returned to Australia. Decades after the war he got a letter from his old girlfriend who was able to track him down saying she wanted her and her family to come visit him and his family. And so she did and several visits between the families were made over the years. Through these visits Sid’s daughter met the old girlfriend’s son and they eventually fell in love and got married.

In his book, Leckie doesn't mention a girl named Stella. The Marines spent 9 months in Australia, he dated several women while he was there. It's believed the Stella character was inspired by a woman named Sheila in his book.

No, she didn't! Damn, that's really disappointing. Your second story made up for it, though, but who would have thought it would be their children to fall in love!

Very transparent of you and honest to speak of your child and personal experiences. I have been fortunate in that regard having been married to a wonderful lady for almost 44 years now. One adopted daughter who we love as our own. You never know what cards life will deal you, you just do your best and always put family first. I hope your channel is a great success. Congratulations on choosing a very challenging show to react to. It gets very intense and dark, but it is well worth it.

As a US Sailor, the Son of a Sailor who served as a Pharmacist Mate (an Army equivalent of a Medic) in WWII and was in the Battle of Okinawa, I want to thank you for watching The Pacific. I want to suggest you watch all the series with the Historical facts, interviews with the actual Marines from the series and the introductions by Tom Hanks, instead of the just going into the movie. I also suggest after watching the whole series to watch the extra called "Profiles in the Pacific". I hope you also watched the extra facts and intrerviews from Band of Brothers called "We Stand Alone Together".

During the Second World War many Australians experienced profound change and a sense of uncertainty in their everyday lives. Austerity measures were introduced and air raid precautions were put in place as the fighting came close to home. As some went overseas to serve, others helped with the war effort on the home front. Women joined military services and replaced men in factories and on farms, while children collected items for recycling and took part in fundraising events.
Australian cities such as Darwin, Broome, Sydney, and Townsville became the target of air and sea attacks from 1942. Thousands of American soldiers were deployed to Australia, and a strong alliance was formed between the two countries as they worked together in the south-west Pacific.
Germans or Australians born in Germany were considered “enemy aliens”, and some were interned in Australian camps, some of which also housed enemy prisoners of war. They were later joined by people of Italian and Japanese heritage.

You may find this interesting. It's a killer song by an Aussie band about the Australian girls who married US soldiers/sailors, and then came to the States after the war.

There was a great deal of tension between some of the Aussie troops and the Americans. In Britain they were over paid, over sexed and over here.
