I think they’re both right. The energy of The Black Power Movement gave rise to Hip Hop. In NY Puerto Ricans, West Indians and Blacks grew up together so they all took that energy to create Hip Hop.
Word up....I definately agree.....I'm a Bronx JAmerican, raised around Pr's and Dominicans on Walton Ave in the early 70's...I remember when rap was created and yes KRS is correct....everyone was involved!!! First rap record on wax was King Tim the 3rd and the fatback band.....PERIOD.....just for the REAL historians....everything and everyone else came after
Without black American jazz and blues there would be no reggae.
really!
@@adccars359 yes this is a known fact. My uncle, Willie Lindo, is the Quincy Jones of reggae music minus the pedophilia and homosexuality lol he will tell you that reggae is the result of skank culture merged with American jazz and blues.
Like I said, this is well known for a reggae historian!!!
Stop 🧢 you are doing the same thing to Jamaicans that Puerto Ricans are doing to y’all
@@martinlutherdaiiireloaded250 this is true... See how easy it easy to admit?!? 🤷🏿♂️😂
Cap
In Jamaica til this day they throw what we would call block parties with 2 turntables and 10 foot speaker boxes. I think krs 1 says Herc brought that vibe from Jamaica to the bronx.
That's a myth.
Jamaica absolutely never threw a block party with two turntables before hip hop. This is a huge lie. Why would they? You are either ignorant or a culture thief respectfully
@@James-lu4hb or your dumb. Wtf you talking bout myth?
I think his view is a bit narrow though and even too idealistic. KRS claims it was Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans helped invent hip hop. Jamar is saying Puerto Rican and Jamaican culture is not evident in hip hop. It doesn't have to be though to be true. It's like I'm Puerto Rican, if I invent a new ice cream flavor. That doesn't mean Puerto Rican culture invented ice cream, but it does mean a Puerto Rican had a role in ice cream flavors. So Kool Herc is Jamaican, he helped start this. Yeah, it's an NYC invention but does that make him not Jamaican though?
Rap music is a story of the hood from our generation. Civil rights leaders he named looked down on rap, like Jesse Jackson. Our parents might have come from different places, but we grew up in the same neighborhoods, same schools. We were more interested in rap music than any of those civil rights leaders.
I guess LJ never heard of Jamaican toasting and DJs. I thought everybody knew that Jamaicans were a major force in creating the rap music we love. Jamaican producers created the dopest production techniques that many genres grew out of. They did that in Jamaica. Jamaicans came to NY. The kids in the Bronx figured out how to use that. Kool Herc lit that fire. Jamaica deserves respect.
Stop ⛽️ light'n. because you are a yt dj, that does not mean you know hip hop or the history... Jamaican music is a derivative of blk 🇺🇲... So is hip hop. End of discussion...
@@t-bloc2763 stop the nonsense. the man is 100% correct.
Absolute bullshit, Jamaicans did not have radio back in the day. When they got radio Jamaicans studied Blk 🇺🇲 music... blk 🇺🇲 don't know nothing about Jamaican toasting... But Jamaicans know about R&B... Blk 🇺🇲 music is the blue print ...
I hear zero proof or facts, he is just making claims. What about Jamaican dancehall culture, Cool Herc and all that?
He told no lies. Where is your proof of Jamaicans inventing hip hop? Dancehall took inspiration from hip hop just like reggae took inspiration from American negro rhythm and blues
Jamaican dancehall culture is nothing like hip hop culture respectfully. It never was. You have been fed Hollywood lies. Your days of stealing and lying are over. Respect to Jamaican culture.
@@martinlutherdaiiireloaded250 True, he told no lies as he just stated his opinions. There where rap in Jamaican dancehalls before American rap/hiphop even existed. Ska took inspiration from American R&B and SKA later became Rocksteady and Rocksteady became Reggae.
@@martinlutherdaiiireloaded250 Toasting, dubbing, sound systems, etc. What Herc did on the tables literally comes from this in Jamaica. Derivation of the Reggae "sound" has nothing to do with this convo. Stay focused. What Herc did was emulate Jamaican sound systems on turn tables.
@@thehenrytribe3472 it has everything to do with the conversation. There would be no reggae culture without American jazz and blues which means people like Kool Herc would not have existed.
Again, stay in your lane.
Lord Jarmar 98.99 %,correct! 💯 Big Facts!
LJ is not correct. Stop bigging up misinformation.
I really think ppl are arguing semantics. But my question is how can the roots of the tree not be a part of the creation of the tree?
Who cares really who created it..it's here enjoy
@@trevorrobinson8652 more importantly THIS!
People who are the ACTUAL people ethnically care🤦🏿♂️@@trevorrobinson8652
It's a cultural phenomenon that has an origin and creators. So, YES who created it is VERY IMPORTANT!!! I'm very proud that the vast majority of FBAs are staying on code and standing their ground when it comes to defending the truth about the BIRTH AND CREATORS of Hip Hop.
Ppl nvr bring up Ali when bringing up DNA of hiphop. He definitely was rhyming b4 and after his fights
Man stop.
@@thehenrytribe3472 stop what?
You should also do your research on Tariq. Seriously. You blindly listening to one Man when there is countless information to prove otherwise only shows you not looking for truth. You just looking for weak ass narratives that support an idiotic claims. Please explain, if possible, what would be the reason to lie about the origins of Hip Hop. What is the incentive to say Jamicans and Puerto Ricans contributed to Hip Hop? I don't really understand the narrative. Maybe you seeing something I'm not. Are you saying this is some grand conspiracy? So Jamaicans and Puerto Ricans who Tariq also acknowledges are part of the 12 tribe of Israel, are working with the White Man to down play other tribe members contributions? Is that your claim? Otherwise what exactly are you saying and the point of this video unless to further divide a community of people for no reason?
I'm confused why do we care what Lord Jamar says? I take him as serious as I take Charleston White. With a grain of salt. Just an old head saying anything. Why wait until 2024 to make this claim unless you tryna stir controversy
Smh. Lord Jamar need to shut up, literally nobody cares about his opinion lmao discrediting communities who contributed to the growth of hip hop is wild corny. Lord Jamar a CornBillion
Why aren't we asking Grand Wizard Theodore who is credited for the first person to scratch on a record. Lord Jamar was 3 years old when hip hop was started and KRS was 8 years old. Why aren't we asking Red Alert who was 17 years old when hip hop started.
Other races So Upset that it was invents by "Black Youths", lol
Lord Jamar is talking nonsense. Narrow minded wanna be right approach. Kool Herc was emulating what existed in Jamaica with toasting, dubbing and sound systems. What Herc was doing on the turntables was him emulating the Jamaican culture that he knew.
But djs was djing in Ny before Herc even Came. Come on now
Lmfao okay😂 yall created HIPHOP. Then yall gave it away to the yt record label owners cuz yah wanted to escape the same shit you’re trying so hard to fight to lay claim for . This is annoying
Tethers are annoy'n...
@@t-bloc2763 and what’s a tether 🤔
Lord Jamar kept it 💯
End of story!
Stop talking nonsense. Misinformation overload! What you a Trumper?
Lord Jamar can't debunk shit it is what it is yes there where part of it point blank cut b.s.
He told no lies 😂
@@martinlutherdaiiireloaded250FACTS! He told ZERO lies.
@@martinlutherdaiiireloaded250 how you know are you even from NY HES A LIAR im.from here and what krs one Said is 100 percent accurate
@@daoldnewyork7639I am from NYS and my family is NYC from the start of hip hop. Shut up. Zero people other than AMERICAN BLACK created hip hop. American Blacks and PR barely had a relationship and Jamaicans was slightly better. They spoke different languages with different vibes and they did their own thing you poser. Jamaican music sounded NOTHING like hip hop. Their parties were nothing alike. Puerto Ricans created NOTHING in the artform they contributed. Most Puerto Ricans wouldn’t be caught at a Black party back then you fraud
