I have been a machinist for over 30 years now. I have setup programmed wire EDM's and built parts with a tolerance of +.0001 -.000 and the matting part would be +.0000 -.0001. I have programmed many different CNC mills, I've programmed twin spindles single turret lathes, I've heat treated a lot of different materials. I know everything there is to know about machine (OK not true). I strive to learn something new every day. The one thing about my carrier of being a machinist is yes it has been very challenging but not boring at all. Everyone keep learning and keep up the smart and hard working.

We need more tormach videos. Maybe get the tormach lathe. Maybe get the haas tool room mill and lathe. Most of us small business owners start with there machines. And struggle with surface finish and tooling selection

Awesome information lol yes if the part sucks who else’s fault could it be. We had this very same discussion a while back with software developers. Garbage in garbage out plain and simple. As always thanks for the great tips. This video comes at perfect timing because I’ve been wanting to do a couple of small projects in titanium. Trying to source the material from the right supplier has been a struggle. Much love and gratitude

In the mid 80's i really wanted to go into being a machinist. My high school had a Bridgeport Mill and I don't recall the lathe but it was great, not to mention we had a foundry. I loved machine shop and did it for 3 years in HS. My uncle at the time was going through a machinist's college, and struggled to find a job. Unfortunately, during that time the machinist trade in my area was not good. I ended up in the aerospace industry, but watching these videos makes me kind of wish I would have sucked it up and been a machinist. I wish it could have a Mill and Lathe at home, just to make some chips.

Mad respect for your knowledge and approach to open source teaching like this. I am a rather new aerospace Machinist. I'm running 3 and 5 axis parts. Some of the materials are 15-5, 17-4, 6AL4V . Roughed and then stress relieved. I need to finish mill the treated materials. Please give me advice on holding my finish profiles. Im trying to hold one tenth. I have found a spring pass usually does the trick. Am I missing anything? What should I look out for? Also it's difficult to measure in the machine. So I'm weary of taking it out of the vise...please advise.

    • @TITANSofCNC

Titanium? Haha. 99.7% of machinists in the world will never touch it in their career. Why all this hype on these "hard" materials? Views and flex I'm guessing. Irrelevant material.
