FRENCH CONNECTIONS, Thurs. 23.06.16: This week we focus on a rite of passage for French teenagers: sitting the Baccalaureate, the national school-leaving exam commonly known as the "bac". French people love to brag that the bac is the hardest exam in the world. But is it still relevant today? She is. She is wrong it is just a bunch of cliché. I am in L and I have to say that I have a lot of work and many of my friends are saying that they could not do this filière because they don’t get what I am doing and the main point of my literature or philosophy class.
You think a lot, you analyse. It is not for everyone... but S or ES too! Even Stmg, pro...
Every filière is different. A filière is not what is best or worst. No, it’s what is best for you and your vision of the world and what you prefer.
Woxylde je suis en L aussi et je fous clairement que dalle je vais pas le cacher, t'es juste pas tombé dans le bon lycée, perso j'ai jamais de devoirs. Et pourtant mon lycée est spécialisé en art donc les L et les arts appliqués sont bien lotis.
Elia Dragibus personnellement, ma L n'a pas été que de la rigolade. Le niveau dans mon lycée était vachement élevé, c'était fait exprès afin que le bac nous semble plus facile comparé à ce qu'on faisait au lycée durant l'année. C'était très rigoureux et avoir constamment des devoirs, des exposés ou des projets à faire était un must. Si la L ne sert à rien alors pourquoi devrait-on garder cette filière ?
C’était tout un contraire, ma 1L était vraiment complexe avec beaucoup de réflexion et de travail. Mon professeur de littérature aime aller au bout des choses. J’ai toujours eu de grandes périodes avec une masse de travail que l’on ne demande pas aux autres. Mais on survit.
En tout cas, je suppose que tout dépend de la classe mais je peux t’assurer que la mienne allait au bout des choses et mes cernes peuvent en témoigner.

Literally nobody brags about the Bac in France, everyone including students acknowledge that the standards are dropped every years so that more people can get the Bac. But the "perles du Bac" yeah they're the best things

Personally I prefer to get educated by French way. I have been raised in Korea and the way of public education is just ineffective...for the test many students try to remember endless superficial knowledge which would be evaporated after the exam. we don’t have many chances to say how we think and how we feel about a poem or a historical event. In this gloomy cycle, creativeness and an ability for self-expression are dying I think. when I went to France as an exchange student, how French made a discussion was a pleasant shock for me. Nobody were reluctant to show their opinions and most of all it was very logical and persuasive. I guess this unique attribute came from the French education.
Eunhye Park I think this has to do with the type of exams we have in France. While I think the baccalauréat is just given to anyone in France (everyone has way higher grades on baccalauréat than they did during high school), I really like that we can write essays. It helps us express our opinions and argument on why we think this way. It also helps with creativity. By the way, the baccalauréat has more value if the student was in a French school oversea (like the Lycée français in Korea) because most of the students going to oversea french schools come from wealthier family and are more likely to access private education than those in metropolitan France. Like said at the end of the video, every year in France students make petitions when they think the exam was too hard and it usually ends up with teachers changing the notation to give higher grades to students. This doesnt happen in oversea french high school.

Bon courage, j'étais en S et c'est un bac abordable il suffit de bien travaillé, bachotté.😊 Il faut juste éviter les fautes d'orthographe du moins les plus graves. Ce sont plus tes connaissances qui importent. ✌ Peace et bonne chance.

Non tout s'apprends dans la vie, surtout quand t'es jeune, t'auras surement jamais le niveau d'Einstein mais n'importe qui peut défoncer le bac S en maths si il trouve juste le temps de bosser dessus, bosser, bosser et encore bosser.
Ces histoires de dons c'est de la connerie, et ceux qui vont font croire qu'ils ne bossent pas et que leurs bonnes notes tombent du ciel faut jamais les écouter, c'est les pires escrocs. Ou les meilleurs.
Fyodor Karamazov y'a juste un moment où il faut être honnête, certaines personnes n'ont les capacités d'analyses nécessaires pour ce genre de choses. Je te renvoie vers les types d'intelligences qui peuvent être une explication à ce problème.

Sure can we talk about the Swiss one? Because only 20% of the teenagers go to collège and take the "Bac". So it means that we don't have +80% of the population who has the bac... just saying
CF/Dawsey fan plus in Switzerland to pass an exam you must have 4/6 which is like a 12/20 in France, sometimes even more ( I needed to have 14/20 to pass my stat test here ) but in france you only need to have half of the point succeed 10/20.

really nice from that lady to spread clichés about S/ES/L. those stereotypes are not only completely false, but they also greatly influence students' choice. In the end a lot of people with great potential in literary classes end up picking a stream they might not fit in. so really nice to keep those stereotypes alive...

Have you ever looked at the french exams? I had to write 15 pages in philosophy, 14 pages in French, 14 pages in Economics... I don't think you would be able to do that.
All your life if determined by the chinese high school exam and you can never make up for a failed exam, even if you retake it.
Lmao S isn't the hardest at all. Their philosophy question was like "does working less lead to a better life?". Easy. In L our questions were "is it in desire's nature to be limitless?" and "are our moral convictions based on our life experience?". Not to mention that on the literature test we are supposed to write two entire papers (or dissertations) in two hours.
La première question n'a rien d'une évidence et met en lumière de nombreux paradoxes de notre civilisation et à plus forte raison, de notre nature... Piètre philosophe que celui qui ne réalise pas son incapacité à saisir la profondeur de toutes choses...
En comparaison avec les autres, elle est très simple, et la réponse est facile à justifier. Elle est d'ailleurs si simple que nous avons tous commencé l'année par aborder celle-là car les profs savaient que c'était la plus abordable pour des débutants, et ils ont eu raison puisque tout le monde a eu au moins 13 lors du premier devoir. Ah, et tu peux prendre ta condescendance et te la foutre dans le rectum. Cordialement.
Et bien comparons notre bac de maths et de science si on joue à ce niveau là.

When you know the level of education of the current generation of French students, and when the vast majority of them pass the exam, I would rather conclude that it's a very easy exam. In any case, it's probably the easiest way in the world to go to university.

I barely got the Bac, but then in University I never failed a semester.
From a grade of 9 in Terminal, I had 14 in University.
In exchange for easy entry to university (but not to Grande École) French students have a drop-out rate of 60% at the end of the first year. That's not very efficient.
With such a high success rate, you can't decently call it hard.

I think the Irish leaving certificate is quite tough as well. They take 12 exams over two weeks and to repeat it, you have to repeat the whole year. Also, the amount of points you get is all colleges look at, if you don’t get the points you need to do the college course you want, you have to repeat the whole year.

Korean SAT is the most difficult exam in the world. Even natives say that it is very difficult in English exam..
I think the same way but there're a lot of official english exams that they would find hard even if they're natives such as Cambridge exams and things

Do you know those exam systems? You're questioned about your grammar, reading, writting, listening and speaking abilities and during the writting part you need to write an essay with only one question also as well as another text with the format of your choice (report, proposal...) in less than 1h20 and about 260 words each. And subjects aren't easy also, like what do you know about "self-employing yourself" for instance when you're 16?
Also, I'm not talking about TOEFL or IELTS that are exams that can define your level in english but of exams such as CAE or CPE that correspond to C1 and C2 or a scoring of 900 and more in the TOIC exam or around 110/115 for the TOEFL.

ah bon. Moi ce qu'on me disait c'est qu'il fallait avoir une moyenne potable voir assez bonne en français... Et la littérature n'est pas une matière si facile que ça ! c'était même + difficile que la SVT en ES pour moi. Et en L, le niveau de littérature est plus difficile que dans les autres filières je crois.

Plus sérieusement, des élèves qui choisissent L alors qu'ils ont largement de quoi aller en S, ça existe. Ce ne sont pas des cas désespérés. C'est même plutôt bon signe, s'ils peuvent résister à la "pression des pairs" et au personnel éducatif qui tentera de les faire aller en S pendant toute leur année de seconde.
Ça va pas faire plaisir au L mais le niveau est faible. La plupart du temps ce sont des gens qui ont une passion artistique et c'est merveilleux (loin de moi l'idée d'en faire un défaut). Cependant ils s'épanouissent très rarement dans le cadre scolaire et sont souvent des élèves avec de faibles résultats. La plupart d'entre eux font même des copies bourrées de fautes de français (pour les gens que je connais en tout cas) et ont une culture générale qui souvent ne dépasse pas leur cadre artistique (je connais une personne qui m'a quand même dit en pleine élection présidentielle américaine qu'elle pensait que c'était une coïncidence que Hillary Clinton ait le même nom de famille que Bill Clinton).
Alors bien évidemment cela ne concerne pas tout le monde, mais il est vrai que beaucoup de professeurs envoient les cancres dans les filières L et ES. C'est vraiment dommage que ce soit aussi déséquilibré.
Mais bon Jean-Michel Blanquer va changer ça donc tant mieux.
Brittany 86 Faux, ce n'est pas les élèves les plus faibles qui y vont, la preuve j'avais 15 de moyenne générale en seconde pourtant j'y suis allé. De plus, la L est aussi dure que les autres, le Français est réellement bien plus approfondi et Barbant. Il est très difficile d'avoir plus de 15.
La France a l’un des pires systèmes éducatifs avec l’éducation nationale, y’a vraiment rien de quoi se venter 😂

Non je ne suis pas d'accord... Avec la filière générale cela garantit un bon niveau de culture générale et surtout l'enseignement de la philo (que la majorité des pays n'ont pas)... Apres en réalité le niveau d'enseignement n'est pas le même dans tous les lycées ce qui explique des taux de réussite tres disparates ce qui est dommage

Avant l'examen du Bac permettait de remettre sur un pied d'égalité et de pouvoir avoir un jugement réel du niveau maintenant depuis la réforme...le contrôle continu a plus de poids ce qui fausse les résultats.
Avant il y avait un tronc commun général maintenant l'éducation nationale a voulu faire comme les anglo-saxons c'est à dire une spécialisation plus tôt au détriment de cet enseignement général...donc oui le niveau de culture générale va baisser!
Le bac ce n'est pas utile comparé en Chine ou en Corée du Sud. Ma sœur a été accepté dans une prépa de bonne renommé avant d'avoir passé le bac. Faut arrêter de nous faire croire que le bac est très important car c'est faux. C'est important mais ça ne va pas chercher très loin. C'est pas ce qui va te faire réussir dans la vie

Je confirme. Le bac n'a aucune utilité pour la sélection dans le supérieur. J'ai moi aussi été accepté dans une très bonne prépa avant le début du bac. Mais bon le ministre de l'éducation actuel va changer ça donc on verra bien. En espérant que ça change vraiment.

Really it is supposed to be hard but because the education ministry doesn't want bad results and wants the majority of students to pass they really lowered the level. Look at the number of people who passed in the 60s 70s and so on compared to today

Le bac ne sert plus à grand chose aujourd'hui en France pour accéder aux études supérieures. Il faut juste l'avoir, la mention ne sert pas à grand chose pour la simple et bonne raison qu'il arrive en juin et qu'il n'est pas pris en compte par la grande majorité formations sélectives post bac

French people never proclamed the bac as the most difficult test in the world we know it's easy 😂
In South Germany the level of difficulty of the Abitur is similar to Switzerland. Very hard. We just don´t brag about it. Our teachers always told us that our A-level is comparable with an American college degree, and an American High School degree is like the lowest degree in Germany, which you get after 9 years of primary education at the age of 15.
It's WAY more important than the Gaokao.
Because even Chinese people agree that English is more convenient - so much that some get away with not speaking Mandarin well.

Have you ever heard of Jiangsu province in China. Average Beijing top student would fail in this provincial examen. That's why China let Jiangsu decide their own examen and don't play with the rest parts of China.

Peace. In my view & opinion, an exam is a test of memory of what has been learnt if anything, while progress as 'T' Levels or and BTEC's are a celebration of understanding & memory. You may, under exam procedures, studied an equation right at the start of a course, the exam which is then sat after a year may light on that subject matter what was studied a year ago. I would add in favor of examinations, that what people enjoy, they can achieve results, no matter even if it is an 'examination'.
Maybe a little bit late here but the question wasn't "Where's manhattan ?" but "Where does the action takes place?" and in the document, they only talked about the Hudson River if I remember well, they never talked about manhattan or even the big apple

C'est idiot de dire que tel examen est plus facile ou plus dur que tel autre. On apprend en vue de passer cet examen. A la limite on peut dire que le niveau requis pour telle matière est plus exigeant pour tel examen que tel autre mais cela s’arrête là.
Savoir résoudre une intégrale triple est il plus exigeant que de savoir réaliser un bijou de haute joaillerie à partir de matières brutes?

J'ai passé le bac français mais je vis en Suisse, et en comparant avec mes amis, j'en ai conclu que la maturité est une GROSSE BLAGUE.
Et les universités suisses n'autorisent pas les élèves sans mention car ils ne veulent pas avoir un flux de français. J'ai été en amphi avec une majorité de suisses qui ont passé la matu, le niveau n'a rien à voir.

Les élèves qui passent la maturité n'ont pas besoin de mention pour aller à l'université. Notons aussi que leurs notes de l'année comptent, ce qui peut être avantageux si on travaille bien toute l'année. Au bac, les notes de l'année ne comptant pas, je trouve cela plus dur (certains bossent dur toute l'année et sont malades le jour de l'examen -> tant pis pour eux).

Le bac je ne sais pas pour l’instant mais par contre le brevet c’est un peu cadeau à part vraiment pour ceux qui ne travaillent pas le reste de l’année, (là ils ont un peu de boulot ! ) pour avoir une petite mention mais sinon l’examen en lui-même est donné. J’ai fait deux brevets blancs et je passe le vrai en Juin. Mes profs m’ont déjà dit que quoi qu’il arrive avec la moyenne de l’année je l’aurai avec minimum mention bien si je ne bosse plus !! Pour le bac j’imagine que ça doit être à peu près pareil. Mais vu que je suis une 2003, c’est nous qui allons avoir droit aux réformes du coup je ne sais pas trop à quoi m’attendre.

Crois moi, le brevet c'est rien du tout, ça vous entraîne juste à découvrir le 'stress' d'un examen officiel...
Et le bac, t'auras l'impression que c'est dur (et c'est un examen de toute façon important au lycée évidemment) , mais passé le bac si tu fais des études supérieures, crois moi, tu te rendras compte que c'était n'importe quoi et méga simple , et rien à voir avec ce dont tu as besoin en etudes supérieures.
Bon je sais que mes études sont des plus dures (medecine) , mais pour toutes les prépas, études superieures en général, tu t'en rendras compte.
Le problème en France depuis qq années c'est que le bac est presque donné, le niveau/programme sont pas des plus compliqués, et arrivés en études supérieures, le niveau demandé augmente d'année en année.
Pour médecine et prépa BCPST par exemple (ma sœur prépare vétérinaire) , lorsqu'on fait des annales, les années 2014-2015 semblent faciles, et 2016-2017-2018 deviennent de plus en plus impossibles, des questions d'une difficulté aberrante etc ...
inu san Merci pour ta réponse !! A ce que j’ai compris avec les nouvelles réformes l’évaluation du bac se fera sur toute l’année de terminale comme au brevet. C’est mieux comme ça !! C’est marrant que tu parles des études de médecine parce que c’est ce que j’ai envie de faire. On m’a déjà répété que c’était super compliqué et toutes les choses super motivantes qu’on peut dire à quelqu’un qui veut se lancer dedans ahah. Mais bon si des gens le font et réussissent, pourquoi pas moi ? 😄

Et si tu veux faire médecine, oui c'est extrêmement difficile , le moral en prend un coup et tut, mais tu peux tenter évidemment, il faut essayer 💪

Skippy Cavanaugh just because there's a lot of science doesn't mean it's harder lol the thing in france is that you need a lot of "general culture" like knowledge in history, philosophy, etc which you don't really find in exams like in the US for example
els iit is not about the syllabus but about the level of problems. University professors find the iit Jee advanced problems really difficult. The toughest high school physics competition is the international physics olympiad. In the old days, IIT JEE used to be of that level and same goes with chemistry. Some of the questions in the math IIT JEE subjective paper could even match international math olympiad. Today it's a bit easier but is still in the level of national level olympiads.
My point is that IIT JEE relies on problem solving than knowledge.
Hahah, no, university professors do not find the iit jee advanced problems difficult at all, in fact they find them very easy. What a ridiculous claim.
IIT JEE is hard because of the advanced (university-level) topics which you have to do while you are still in high school. So of course, the problem level is higher since topics are more advanced. But if you compare any maths or science questions of the same topics , both in IIT JEE and Cambridge A Levels, you will see that Cambridge questions require more thinking and problem solving skills. But i admit that Cambridge CIE, is much easier to pass, because its a standardised exam and it has a mixture of both easy and difficult questions to cater for the aptitude level of different students. IIT JEE is an exam seeking towards elimination of students at every single questions.
Nothing in the IIT JEE is university level.
