Speaking as an American, Matt Berry seems to have this incredible level of self-awareness of what parts of English accents sound funny to non-English people. He then weaponizes that knowledge when speaking
As a Brit, it's hilarious to us too. He deliberately bends and rolls certain syllables just for the hell of it. His show 'Toast' is even more bizarre/brilliant for this, in my opinion.
Yeah, he's always done that, his odd manner of speaking is what has endeared him to us for the past 20 years. His "Unhand me priest!" and "Fa-theeerr" when he is introduced in The IT Crowd always crack me up.

Well the joke is that its an old accent like early radio presenters or theatre actor types from a hundred years ago. Most his roles speak like this and its more to take the piss out of old-fashioned people directed at contemporary english speakersthan "funny parts of the english accent for non-english"

@@SvenTviking I know that lol I’m from Stoke, I just meant that a lot of these clips are focusing on Matt Berry’s unique way of speaking, but a few were just said in what I would consider to be a normal English accent without any of those quirks - E.g. “There’s a fucking ghost on the front lawn”, “ya prick” and my personal favourite “that’s a wooden stake you dickhead”

the way he pronounces Manhattan i realized later was him referring to the region as the Indigenous land that NYC occupies. the tribes there was the Manahata (sp?) tribe and that was a golden nugget that I love that Taika put in. it would make sense that he would call it that if they've been there since colonization.
