      Abdu R I’m an introvert. Not anti social. I want the right people around me. In this line “Darling” is the sorrow (or anything that’s actually not good for us but we cling to it) we are addicted to. And the fact that when we are trying to make new of ourselves and let go off the things that prevent us from being happy, in the process we do tend to miss what we are trying to avoid and get back to it. Thats is what this line is.
      Not literally about left alone by people or lover.

    Lithium is used to battle depression and bipolor disorder. It is used in bipolar disorder because it has been shown to curb both manic and depressive episodes. This effect, according to some patients, is because they end up feeling completely numb. This song is about being in a bad relationship and choosing between learning to live with who you are as yourself (not taking the medication) or numbing yourself to feed this codependency.

    This song is basically about someone being so use to being sad that allowing themselves to be happy isn't normal for them. " Here in the Darkness I know myself " is the battle. Sadness is the world she knows but she's ready to let it go

  • @ordinaryviewer5493
    @ordinaryviewer5493 4 года назад +22

    The lead singer doesn’t take the actual medication. It’s a metaphor of feeling numb. She fought within herself about wanting to be happy but at the same time she’s attracted to sadness as well, hence why she says “god I want to let it go” meaning she wants to be happy and that’s it’s okay to remain happy.

    This song is literally not about the drug “Lithium”
    Lithium is used as a metaphor for Sadness.
    There are times when you are stuck in this bubble of sadness and you kind of get used to it. You accept it as part of your life but you know that it is not the truth.
    So she is singing to that part of herself that wants to stay being sad that she wants to be happy. In between she almost goes back to accepting her sadness “darling I forgive you afterall, anything is better than to be alone” but she finally decides to be happy by ending that song with “I’m going to let it go”

    This was a great surprise for me. I was expecting a music review with some lyrical analysis but what I got was much more than that. It was very courageous of you sir to share your experience. I am a pharmacist and had to study about Lithium. It is a very powerful drug for bipolar disease and severe depression usually when everything else doesn't work. Sometimes it gives some miraculous results. The problem is that it could be very toxic if the dose is not right or even with the right dose with long term use. It mostly affects the kidneys. Patients on it have to do regular blood tests to make sure the Lithium level is safe and that their kidneys are still functioning well. I learned about patients who had to stop it because of the side effects but who felt very well on it but didn't have the choice. It is sometimes very difficult to find an alternative. Naturally, it is not suitable for everyone but for those who benefit from it can see a life saving drug. At the end of the day Lithium is just a metal in the periodic table like Sodium or Iron. It is used in lithium batteries, hence the name lol. You can see how it could be a very dangerous poison with misuse. How poetic though, a regular metal being a cure for mental health issues. Just like the music metal.

What I’m gonna say might sound stupid and insane, but I can imagine me in my head standing in a circle with other me’s but they’re emotions/ feelings I.e. anger,rage, sadness, depression, anxiety, happiness. My brother takes Lithium to counter his schizophrenia.
    Over the years his dosage has been reduced, so it's less pronounced, but essentially it can mellow your emotions to a point where nothing effects you. It can disrupt creative thinking, cause distance in relationships, and generally make you feel disconnected from everything. People on lithium for whatever reason often want to stop because of these effects, which can seriously disrupt your life... but the schizophrenia is worse. It's a horrible trade-off, and I sincerely hope they find a better way to balance brain chemistry.
    This song is kinda hard to listen to for me, because I've seen how this has effected my brother, and it's gut-wrenching.

    Lithium is a sedative, I believe it was most commonly used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a catch-all drug to basically annihilate freedom of thought and emotive response. Patients would be heavily sedated with it to immobilize them. It's still used for things like bipolar disorder and depression, but at much lower doses to basically reduce the effects rather than completely render a patient immobile and unthinking.

  • @LiamOficial
    @LiamOficial Год назад

    well, first of all it's important to say that Amy herself said that the song is not litheral... she has never taken Lithium and it's a metaphor about the fear of being happy and consequently not being able to be the artist that she has always been... she said that she's talking about happiness in a negative way...
    THAT being said, I would also like to add that:
    1. there are not 2 Amys in the video - what you see is like flashes of a future event... you see her in the water before you see her drowning but she eventually drowns in the end of the video and becomes the Amy underwater that we see since the beginning of the video... but it's the same character...
    it's different from Going Under in which there's Amy on stage and the Jellyfish Amy
    2. when she says "darling, I forgive you after all" she's not talking to herself... there's NOTHING in the video that suggests that... actually she's just walking towards the lake where she drowns...
    it's also important to notice that Call me when you're sober and Lacrymosa are songs written about her relationship with Shaun Morgan (Seether) so probably the verses in which she says "come to bed, don't make me sleep alone" or "just didn't drink enough to say you love me" (which connects perfectly to YOU NEVER CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE SOBER!) are probably related to that relationship as well...
    OFF: Lacrymosa REALLY sounds like a answer to FINE AGAIN by Seether...

    Lithium is used more as a metaphor. The song is about how she hates how she feels like she can't make good music unless she's sad/depressed. The entire album moves through this theme and the last song, Good enough" was a happy love song to her husband. In addition, all the songs in this album have a happy ending. My favorite EV album. THE OPEN DOOR = BEST ALBUM EVER

    Lithium isn't any worse than the other drugs like Wellbutrin, quite the opposite. It's very cheap though compared to the other anti depressants. I have a feeling that's part of the reason why.

    Actually, guys, it's neither about split personalities nor talks to herself. The other person that she refers is her then boyfriend, the singer of the band Seether. A pretty bad relationship for her that she also mentions on various other songs off the Open Door album.

    white/in water ... Lithium is a drug to treat mania for people with Bipolar. The two versions... the depressive and the manic. She repeatedly talks about how Lithium "locks her up inside", this is the drug reducing her mania which some people feel too drastically alters their personality.

      Why not Mrok? They won't get the Polish singing even with all the messed up "straight from Google Translate" English versions of the lyrics available online.
      I made decent translations for both of them, plus a few more, btw. Just never uploaded them anywhere.
      Edit: Asked about Mrok, because it's a much better song in my opinion.
      Edit 2: If we're talking Polish bands, why not show them Coma - Zbyszek? Most of it is instrumental, and the lyrics are simple enough(except for one moment that requires a bit of a poetic interpretation) for Google Translate to do a decent job.

    They give you Lithium for Borderline Personality Disorder. I have this, although I'm not prescribed Lithium because I'm allergic to it, and it's a mental disorder characterized by the instability in mood, behavior, and functioning. Symptoms include black & white thinking, distorted self-image/personality, paranoid thinking, self-harm and suicidal ideations, feelings of isolation, boredom, and emptiness, abandonment issues and extreme emotions. Happiness to us feels like euphoria, and sadness feels like we are dying/excruciating pain. We also suffer from what is called "Splitting", which is how we view others, events, or even themselves in all-or-nothing terms. In crisis mode, we self-harm, attempt suicide and we suffer from Schema Modes. Schema modes in borderline personality disorder are a form of maladaptive coping that the person learned in response to childhood trauma, and schema therapy is designed to address these modes. In this way, BPD is similar to dissociative identity disorder (DID) (formerly known as multiple personality disorder). We don't become a different person, but rather we mimic a different person, or our personality shifts to act differently as if we are someone different but still the same person, if that makes sense. We love to hate ourselves, but it becomes too much to bear that we wish it would go away.
