3:25, Ren, Romain (lead guitar here), and Gorran (bass guitar here) started busking together in summer 2017 and started The Big Push in fall 2017. The drummer, Glenn, joined about a year later. Ren's music career in the UK started to take off again (from the previous stall in 2012) with the release of "Blind Eyed" in 2018. The Big Push also steadily gained a following in the UK. This video is from a busking session in early June 2021, to promote their latest single "Watch Out", which was from the EP "Can Do Will Do" that they released about three weeks later at the end of June. They followed up with a small tour of a few cities around England, as well as Glasgow in Scotland. The band split up amicably in September 2022, about 3 months before Ren released "Hi Ren" in December 2022. Just before the release of "Hi Ren", Ren's RUclips channel had about 430K subscribers. Within 7 months it blew up to over a million subscribers, and today it's at 1.26M.

When they split it was purely as they needed to go separate ways for various reasons one of the main ones was Ren going to Canada for his treatments which was going to take over a year or so.

To answer your question at the end: This was recorded during Brighton Pride in August of 2022. Just over a month before their hiatus/breakup final show at Brighton Dome. Gorran said in an interview that this session was one of their highest energy sessions.

The Big Push broke up in 2022 when Ren left for Canada for his treatments, so everything they did was before Ren bkew up worlswide with Hi Ren (excluding the UK as @eryksum nicely summerized below)

Lots of their sets are mash-ups that seem random, but blend into glorious sound satisfaction. The Big Push played together for roughly 5 (6?) years, their last gig in 2022, when Ren left for medical treatment in Canada.

My personal favourite Big Push performance is Wade In The Water/ Trouble So Hard/ Nina Simone. Is a bluesy, jazzy mash up. It's beautiful.

Ren loves mashups and TBP have some epic ones! REN’s career and life have been quite a roller coaster. Many Renegades can give you a more in depth analysis but Ren was signed to Sony at 19 or 20 and was working on an album when he became very ill and too sick to continue and they parted ways. Fast forward his popularity increased exponentially after Hi Ren started taking off and his latest album “Sick Boi” debuted at #1 on the UK charts recently. He is still in Canada getting medical treatment but working on some new things! Thanks for the reaction I am enjoying your vibe❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻

The thing with Ren and the big push is they don’t (very often) try to copy. They’ll do their own RENdition. A lot are mashups and every performance he intentionally does differently. Eg there’s multiple covers of I shot the sheriff etc. He intentionally switches up lyrics too 🖤
It's always the best way with covers isn't it. Otherwise they're just kind of forgettable. Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor being a great example of an unforgettable cover different from the original. All Along The Watch Tower by Hendrix being another. I remember reading that Dylan said on hearing it, that that song belongs to Hendrix now.

From the big push... Check out the busking session of Lonely Boy a Black keys cover done nicely. Guns of Brixton, for me its better than the original, Far more punchy. Jam session of bongo bongo and 3 originals... Xbox marijuana, Why My Woman, and Its Alright.
Ren originals. Money Game 1-3, Sick boi, Animal flow, loosing it. Then there's some stuff out there too from "Trick the Fox" (Ren circa 2010)

Heads up on the mic.volume/music v. First off not telling you how to set sound.Hopefully helping because dig your vibe,charisma, accent and obvious love for music .Subbed but was tough listen ,mic volume extremely higher that music .When you paused to comment I scrambled to get remote to prevent neighbors from a 3 am east coast of u.s. wake up hollering!😂 Run through powerful sound set up,generally use about 15% of volume to hear very well but music v. So low I kicked up 60 % in hi Ren ,you paused and vibration was felt to N.Y.C
150 miles north. Fucking around a bit,us new Yorkers like to laugh and sometimes come off as a bit abrasive!😂GOOD LUCK my friends

Thanks for the comment. I've struggled with the levels on a few of my early vids. Should have spent more time on them and should have done more research. Mixing music is one thing, and I ain't ever been a genius at that, but should have known inserting a narration onto music would be a different kettle of fish. I appreciate the humour in your comment and mad that you're watching all the way over in NYC. About to post my reaction to Paint It Black, hoping I've got the mix better, might have even gone a bit to far the other way, but please check it out and let me know about the levels. Nice one!
