Thanks for that shout out Kee!! I'll have to get one of those..I do miss using it during a brew day! Thanks for always innovating for the brewing community! 👍🍻
I kinda agree but we were having issues getting a standard charging cable plug in the waterproof design to work in this shape so we went with this magnetic design.
So the scale shows @20c, the refrac is unaffected by temp though yeah? I have one but I am not convinced of it's accuracy... It would be a shame if something happened to it just before I put my next KegLand order in!
@@KegLand I meant the example you guys showed has @20c on it around 1:50, at the bottom, does that mean it's calibrated for that temp and we have to adjust?
It would be great to have a refractometer with a smaller range, something like 1.005 to 1.080 for example. I mean, who is brewing 1.130 wort anyways? Most batches are probably even under 1.065
That is a fair point. I think a high accuracy unit that is easier to read is a good idea. I will talk to the others about this. We are also going to have a new digital model available soon too so this is another option.
Had some lactose in a high ABV brew I did the other day at 1.122, fair point that it's the only one I've ever done with that SG but there is merit in it in some cases.
Thanks for the support. So sorry Andy. Well the older model still works great and to be honest the accuracy of our SG reading on the old model was also quite good. The issue that we found was mostly with other refractometers that were not sold by us so realistically you should be fine and you are not missing out on too much
Is this non-adjustable? I've got the old one and I have to calibrate it every time I use it, as it's always wildly out of whack. It's like it's so fragile that the slightest bump knocks it out by several points. And it's a pain having to find the distilled water on brewday to calibrate before every sample. Can you calibrate this one? And how fragile is it? That's why I still mostly use my hydrometer as its pre calibrated and never changes unless it's dropped!
From my understanding (and my refrac) no, it's great pre chilling but once there's any yeast and alcohol involved I still use the hydrometer. I have been known to be wrong and maybe it's just my unit though
@@KegLand i ordered your one as the cheap one from alie press is way off and I had to use a compensation factor calculated with hydrometer. Is a Sabre accurate for darker/amber beers like ie Irish Red without compensation? Say within 1.060 sg
Once you have alcohol in the beer I think it's just easier to use your old fassioned hydrometer. It can be done with this device but you have to use a claculator or tables to calculate the value.
KegLand has two main distributors in America. www.morebeer.com and www.williamsbrwing.com It's best to contact these guys directly and they can give you lead times and approximate arrival dates.

@@ingolfurarnar697 thermometer works well, and you should calibrate it for water at a regular mash scale (not like in manual). So 1st point at 50 °C and 2nd at 80 °C. That is reasonable scale to use. Just get a cook thermometer too to check temp of water with it when you calibrate internal thermometer.

@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Thanks Brian. I have also put a link to your channel in the comments too.
Nice! Next version could have wireless charging coil inside.
Yes this might have to be the next upgrade!
I would love if you guys made a digital one competing with the Milwaukee or Easydens.
I would agree with this. It's' probably time we had our own digital refractometer too.
@@KegLand I volunteer as a testperson for such a device if you guys make one 😀
👍 Cool but but would like a standard charging cable or standard wireless charging, don't like a special cable that could get lost or damaged

@@KegLand on second thought will this product not be affected by european union enforcing usb-c charging on all small electronic devices?
Hey Kee can you make us a stainless steel hydrometer? Love your work!
Do you mean a stainless one so you cant smash it?
@@KegLand yes please
I think I've broken about 10
@@KegLand Yeah but from the same material you use for the float in the floating dip tubes
If we measure the value when the temperature is more than 20 degrees Celsius, we can refer to the value we can see, right?
Yes, within reason
When is the digital refractometer available? Hopefully it will have alcohol correction like easydens.
News to me!

Haha. Thanks for your support. You really need to check with the manufacturer to make sure the SG scale is made for wort.

It will be on the Aliexpress store soon but we are just a bit short of stock at the moment.

Yes this is adjustable. You just turn the screw and you can zero it.
This might be a silly question, but is this accurate when alcohol is present ?
From my understanding (and my refrac) no, it's great pre chilling but once there's any yeast and alcohol involved I still use the hydrometer. I have been known to be wrong and maybe it's just my unit though
Yes once you have yeast and alcohol I would also use the conventional hydrometer.
Doh I bought the old one this week! 😢
Thanks for the support matt. Not to worry I am sure you will still get some good use out of the old model.
Is the Brix scale calibrated for beer wort of for a sucrose solution?
Brix is brix. The wort scale is calibrated to be accurate for worts of a fairly standard colour
@@KegLand Maltose and sucrose have different refraction indices. Brix is Brix only when measured with a hydrometer
