This song is getting better with every hearing. It is fine wine. Almost skipped over it when I first heard it, but something brought me back to it. That last verse is so emotive, and takes you somewhere far, far out to sea to contemplate...

The softly-spoken drums immediately set the tone, and then comes that gorgeous piano chord progression that goes from mellow to melodramatic, before taking a sombre, resigned turn as Roland sings "It is too late, for anyone to believe...".

@sylpic3681- It's a homage to Robert Wyatt from the band, Soft Machine. Roland's singing style on 'I believe' is inspired by his vocal phrasings. Besides, Robert Wyatt had met with a very bad accident - a misfortune that happened in his life (you can read about it on the web). The video with the chair might have been slight reference to this as well. My guess is this song is partly an imaginary song written from his view/situation although thematically it is very much Tears for Fears and primal scream related (big chair and all that stuff). The lyrics are very positive and thought-provoking.

I´ve been a fan of TFF since about 1982, never realised there was a video to this song (we only had TOTP back in the 80s, the song never reached the top 20 so I don´t think the video was ever shown) a brilliant song from my favourite album, Songs from the Big Chair, brilliant lyrics, although this version is somewhat different to the album version.
