As a kid this song stuck in my heart .. I grew up searching for it .. never knew the name only the tune .. until I heard it 2023 on a radio .. and I went crazy
The lead singer Camelle Hinds was a pal of mine when we attended Bow School in London. The guitarist in the head gear also attended the school, i think his name is Defoe. Other famous people from our school include Ashley Cole ( footballer ) and Wiley ( rapper ). I wasn't as inspired by the school and became a postman! 😂
What a superb cover version this is from 1983 from Central Line. It reached the Dizzy heights of number 21 In the UK 🇬🇧 singles chart. It deserved too be at least top ten . I think 🤔 most of the best songs 🎵 fail a top 10 chart position. I'm glad I still have my copy of this classic single .
Camelle Hinds later became a close friend of Paul Weller and his wife Dee Cee Lee, and accompanied them in their band The Style Council as a guest musician.
I like the way the song becomes more funky and danceable at the end when the synths come in. Until then it has a sort of dreamy feel to it which is very nice as well, but the contrast with the ending is what makes it interesting. (In fact it's also like that at the start as well).

No room for variety in this capitalist society, you must just like the same old songs as it is all about control and money these days, not music. That is why you probably haven't heard this song since the 80's.
Because they only play the same, commercial mostly Caucasian stuff, and I'm Caucasian. It's a ****** disgrace these gems from 1980 - 1987 get snubbed. Like Total Contrast, Cool Notes, Imagination, Loose Ends, David Joseph and even Five Star!! Been listening to Absolute radio all week at work, only Black artist was Billy Ocean,
I'm just observing how strange the past can seem viewed from a distance even though at the time it seemed quite normal. I was a teenager in the early 80's and loved the look and sound of the era but it seems quite bizarre from a distance.
I like Central Line's version better. George Benson did the original Nature Boy in 1977. It's quite mellow, compared to this. This version is quite danceable. Overall, Central Line's music is just a revelation!
Heard it many years ago (ook op de Nederlandse radio) without any mention of who sang it. (Re)discovered them last year and found out that Camille Hinds was in this band before playing with the likes of Terence Trent D'Arby. The Toppop-performance of Walking Into Sunshine is a regular on nostalgia channel 192TV's Friday Dance Classics.
Always though the British Soul/Funk music of the late 70's and Early 80's stood out better then the American stuff...maybe it's because we had a tribal youth culture scene called The Soul Boys and don't America had anything like that.

My dad is the little boy at the start , Darren Bourne , he unfortunately passed away in 2014
I'm sorry for your loss

I'm proud to say that the vocalist and .. err , squiggly instrument player was a close friend in school. :)
Is that Camelle Hinds?
@@HungryBiller It is
Are they alive?
@@HungryBiller Yes.

We own the 80s. 1st year as a jambite (undergraduate). It was well rocked!
Lovely, lovely ... memories of another day!
First heard this back in 1983 , around the same time as Level 42 had their first top 30 hit The Chinese Way...which only got to 24 😱

Considering it was a remake,it really turned out good
Still loving it ❤❤❤
Great song
This version captures the mood well...

Have you seen the original performance of this song by Nat King Cole? I think Central Line did well to 'funk' it up! :)
The best version ever

Why is this gem never played on absolute 80s
That's a real shame!!🤔🤔

@@markkeogh18 The music was certainly a lot better in 1983 than today.
The original was done by nat king cole then george benson but central lines is the better version 😂

Actually Nat King Cole sang it in 1947...
@@kingham61ki oh, that's a revelation. I've got to hear her version as well. Thanks for that Kevin.
@@sketchworm er Nat King Cole was male last time I looked, though he did have a daughter Natalie who you may be referencing.
Natalie Cole also recorded a hauntingly beautiful version, which is also worth a listen if you get a chance.
