"Removing smaller Goliath groupers from the water to remove hooks is not necessarily a bad practice, but this process must be done with care, using proper fish handling techniques, and the fish must be returned to the water as expeditiously as possible"- Directly from FWC 60-80lbs is Small for a Goliath, considering they reach over 700+lbs. FWC does not give a baseline for what is considered large. We net them, safely and are able to remove the hook and release them via net. A much better option than cutting the line and leaving them with 20+ft of leader and a hook. Fishermen should always use discretion when it comes to regulations, and I believe we make the safer call in netting fish under 100lbs. If we catch them over 100+lbs, they would be beached and released safely.
Considering how the FWC has mismanaged just about every fishery in Florida, their advice should be taken with millions of grains of salt. The last thing you should be doing is encouraging people to 'sport fish' for jew fish.
hello Viktor, I recently discovered your stuff on youtube. love it. one suggestion for your "catch, clean and cook" segments - maybe invite some chefs from local restaurants on for the cooking part (or maybe some would make good additions on a fishing segment with you) you could endorse the restaurants and maybe increase your viewership with some killer recipes (and some fancy knife work by the chefs)
Going to get a little long here. At 62 now I used to live shell, catch conch(backwhen legal 10 per day)lobster and catch all sorts of fish, rays and sharks. Fishing in Florida is still good but was better in the early 70's and can only imagine 1950 backwards. Looking at vintage pics the no catch & release times & the amount of fish caught was insane when the resources still seemed infinite. I understand & feel the excitement right off your videos. I think at some point as you age & have caught countless fish targeting some like goliaths and big tarpon will become more incidental for you & not as targeted. At some point most of us start leaning more & more towards total conservation & only keep what we'll eat that day. I surf fish off NE Fla near inlets & jump several Tarpon over 100 lbs a yr,catch large sharks & jacks and other fun fish while food fishing reds, snook, blues yadayadayada. At this young age you are now I say enjoy it,but as you get nearer 40 & perhaps earlier your fishing may morph more towards like what I do now and when run into some whopper as an incidental catch completely enjoy it. I heard the permit commentary on the permit catch in the keys and can see you'll be heading in that direction.I would encourage you to continue to enjoy your passion for fishing within limits of the law which you seem to do. I am concerned however that your videos may inspire some to catch our Florida monsters & not take the care you do when they fish and may cut lines when hooking pelicans or seagulls. Perhaps while not changing your fishing you may want to consider more care of what you post not knowing if your inspiring idiots. Please continue to have fun & post, but consider always including conservation & caring for all wildlife in your videos & maybe not sharing too much info on out monster fish. We had to figure it out as you did & just don't pass everything along please. A little too much help may actually hurt our great fishery. Food for thought. tight lines ! jimmyg
That’s pretty incredible to catch off a pier if we only had that opportunity here in South Louisiana to catch fish like that off a pier that’s why I love fishing in Florida 👍
Hey great video love the channel from Jacksonville Florida where is it that you're fishing just in case I'm ever in the area I can hook up with you so my grandson can meet you again great video thought I was there with you guys
That's the truth man! I saw the first one. It took off, glad that it did because I'm sure if rewarded you a lot financially . Keep it up man, wishing I have one soon! Congrats, and once again good video man! TIGHT LINES
Tunas are the big thing up here in new England. In on the R.I. line and the fishing is good but not as diverse. Beats Discovery Channels etc's ASSES. Proud to be a sub fellas.
just a quick thing I think your videos are awesome but I think you would benefit from using a unhooking mat especially on hard hot concrete these fish are protected after all, maybe a sack filled with bean bag beans or a old cushion of a sofa maybe? top job thou
I was sure that I read not too long ago, that Goliath grouper numbers are back on the rise, to a point that they could be taken, but with huge control measures as to size/numbers. I may be wrong, but pretty certain it was in national geographic. I believe it was being looked into as a way to help mange and protect them as there have been reports of them being captured, killed and sent back down to the sea bed.
You all need to go where you can catch some Abaloney, and do a catch, clean, and cook with those, just remember Abaloney are a big Muscle and you have to tenderize.
The use of live bait seems somewhat cruel to me. I think it's illegal in Norway, but anyway, it's not a practice I'm used to and thus I have no experience or relation to it. I'm sure it's very different from using dead bait, however I can't help but wonder if the difference and benefits really justify the suffering it surely must cause. Please, before I get a shitstorm of people calling me a pussy: I hunt, I fish,- I harvest from the surplus of nature. I try to minimize the suffering out of respect. I still hook my fish, i still shoot my game and I strive to make it a clean kill. I enjoy your videos, it looks fun. Have a nice one.
A week ago i was in florida keys and i got a jewfish grouper on line and i gave it to my dad... dang fish he had to be more than 100 pounds. Anyway he was coming up and broke the line

Jupiter Josh, I don't think you ever were a subscriber. This is a FISHING channel, hooks is kind of what we fishermen do.

Man it's insane how easy it is for you guys to walk and catch fish that big I have to go in a boat like 💯 miles off shore

You use your gear hard. That’s what it’s all about!
You all need to go where you can catch some Abaloney, and do a catch, clean, and cook with those, just remember Abaloney are a big Muscle and you have to tenderize.
And that guy says you can still eat that stone crab claw the Goliath threw up... lol

What are your thoughts on opening a season for goliath grouper fishing?

What bait were u using for the mackerel
yeeeehaw son!
Hey Vik, what kind of knot was that on the 80 reel? I try to crimp as much as possible but a good heavy line knot is a need to know!
Isaiah Wright- at least 2 knot failures. They need to upgrade knot selection, and use spit when cinching the knot tight.
Jetty giants, lol
yalll at the subastan inlet
Poor Jesse lol
What size circle hooks where you using
Bruder muss los
Hi vic
